Sans tenir compte d'éventuelles acquisitions ciblées, son objectif pour les année s qui viennent est d'augmenter de 6% à 14% par an le volume d'émission de ses solutions. http://www.lefigaro.fr/conso/2011/11/29/05007-20111129ARTFIG00731-le-ticket-restaurant-electroniquese-generalise.php West Africa / Ericsson and Sony Ericsson partner to run competition West Africa for application developers in West Africa / Ericsson and Sony Ericsson partner to run competition for application developers in West Africa ABUJA, Nigeria, November 30, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ – Ericsson Gives West African developers a global stage • Ericsson and Sony Ericsson partner to run competition for application developers in West Africa • Local developers are invited to submit innovative ideas and mobile applications • Application entries will be automatically registered for the global competition with a chance to win a €15,000 cash prize. Increased Mobile Broadband Spectrum Vital for Africa‘s Socio-economic Development, Says GSMA Increased Mobile Broadband Spectrum Vital for Africa‘s Socio-economic Development, Says GSMA NAIROBI, Kenya, November 29, 2011/PRNewswire via African Press Organization (APO)/ — Release of Spectrum Is Set to Generate an Additional US$82 billion in GDP Per Year and Help Lift 40 Million SubSaharan Africans Out of Poverty by 2025 ATU Digital Migration and Spectrum Policy Summit, Nairobi: The GSMA today announced that greater allocation of spectrum for Mobile Broadband is vital for the economic and social development of subSaharan Africa. New findings from a report by the GSMA and Plum Consulting reveal that, across the region, the release of Mobile Broadband spectrum in the Digital Dividend and the 2.6GHz bands by 2015 in sub-Saharan Africa could: – Create up to 27 million new jobs, increase GDP per capita by 5.2 per cent[1], which will directly lift 40 million people out of poverty[2]by 2025; and – Increase GDP and government tax revenues by US$82 billion and US$18 billion per year respectively by 2025. Mobile voice and SMS services have made major economic contributions to sub-Saharan Africa over the past decade and accounted for 3.5 per cent of regional GDP by 2010. While the effects of broadband internet access are just beginning to be felt across the region, its importance has been recognised by the UN Broadband Commission for Digital Development which has set a global broadband challenge ―to ensure that 40 per cent of households in developing countries are using broadband internet by 2015[3].‖ In sub-Saharan Africa, the lack of fixed line telecom infrastructure means that Mobile Broadband services will be essential in achieving this target. The GSMA expects that there will be 240 million Mobile Broadband connections in sub-Saharan Africa by 2015, compared to just 4 million fixed broadband connections[4]. The GSMA is therefore calling on countries across the region, including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania, to urgently release harmonised spectrum for Mobile Broadband. This will expand the reach and availability of affordable broadband services and help realise significant economic and human development gains for sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, just 80MHz of spectrum is available for delivering Mobile Broadband service in a typical African market. In contrast, mobile operators in many middle and high-income markets have access up to 400MHz of spectrum for delivering Mobile Broadband. ―African governments must act now to release much-needed spectrum for Mobile Broadband services if they are to meet the UN‘s 40 per cent broadband target,‖ said Peter Lyons, Director of Spectrum Policy, Africa and Middle East, GSMA. ―Increased spectrum will lower the cost of mobile devices, improve speed of data communication, and ultimately help nearly 40 million Africans escape poverty.‖ By licensing spectrum in the Digital Dividend and the 2.5GHz bands for Mobile Broadband, governments in the region have the opportunity to increase total spectrum available by approximately 70 per cent. In particular, the Digital Dividend band, which is currently used for analogue television broadcasting, offers widespread mobile broadband coverage in rural areas and improved indoor penetration in urban areas. In rural areas alone, the Digital Dividend band could deliver Mobile Broadband service to between 40 to 80 per cent of the population. Performances Veille © 2011 Performances MC - www.performancesconsulting.com - Tous droits réservés 5 Lyons continued: ―If governments in sub-Saharan Africa allocate more spectrum for Mobile Broadband over a 10-year period from 2015, this would result in US$235 billion of additional GDP and US$50 billion in additional tax revenues[5]. However, if the release of spectrum is delayed by five years, then these benefits would fall to US$50 billion in additional GDP, and US$10 billion in additional tax revenue. Action is required now to secure the future connectivity and economic empowerment of Africa‘s citizens.‖ To view the report please visit: http://www.gsmworld.com/sub-saharanafricareport Notes to editors [1]At constant 2010 prices [2]Poverty is defined as living on or below the International Poverty Line of US$1.25 per person per day [3]http://www.broadbandcommission.org/Documents/Broadband_Challenge.pdf, 25 October 2011 [4]The Mobile Broadband forecasts include W-CDMA as well as HSPA and LTE connections [5]At a discount rate of 5 per cent per annum About the GSMA The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide. Telkom‘s ADSL growth is slowing, but maybe it is time for a price cut to boost uptake This week Telkom released their interim financial results for the period ended 30 September 2011, showing the slowest ADSL growth since 2005. At the end of September 2011, Telkom had 795,419 ADSL subscribers, up from 699,368 a year earlier. This growth is encouraging for Telkom considering that the company is losing fixed line subscribers at a rapid rate; but what is less encouraging is that the pace of this growth is the lowest since 2005. With the boom in broadband demand in South Africa, Telkom should be capitalizing on their strong position in the local Internet market – but instead the mobile providers are the biggest broadband winners. The following table shows Telkom‘s ADSL growth since the company launched ADSL in late 2002. The monthly growth figures show a clear decline in the growth rate of Telkom‘s ADSL subscriber base. The following graph gives an overview of Telkom‘s ADSL growth and significant events which may have influenced the growth rate of ADSL in South Africa. Telkom ADSL growth Telkom CEO Nombulelo Moholi seems to be well aware of the situation, confirming that there is a burgeoning appetite for data which resulted in strong growth in broadband services. Telkom also acknowledged that the broadband market is dominated by mobile players largely as a result of their slow time to install and undifferentiated product offerings. ―This is as a result of network and technology constraints,‖ Telkom said. ―These issues are being dealt with and we are focusing our efforts on delivering consistent, best in class customer experience and improving current customer satisfaction.‖ ―Free broadband trials are cementing the belief that fixed-line broadband is unparalleled in terms of Quality of Service and that mobile broadband complements rather than replaces Telkom‘s ADSL service offers,‖ said Moholi. Telkom is also planning to simplify and streamline their product offerings and communication, with a new product catalogue planned for November 2011. Latest broadband tariff benchmarks shows how South Africa stacks up against global standards Point-Topic released their Q3 2011 Broadband Tariff Benchmark report, comparing broadband prices globally according to access technology and service descriptions. Entry level prices The report revealed that the average entry-level DSL tariff during Q3 2011 was USD 27.85 (R229) per month, down slightly from the previous quarter‘s price of USD 28.19 (R231). Year on year the price of entry level DSL products has however increased. The current price of USD 27.85 (R229) is 1.59 per cent higher than the average price of USD 27.42 (R225) over the same period in 2010. The average cable modem monthly tariff was USD 28.79 (R236), unchanged from the previous quarter but down 1.55 per cent year-on-year from USD 29.25 (R240). The FTTx monthly tariff was 1.27 per cent down year-on-year from USD 33.44 (R275) to USD 33.01 (R271). It was down slightly from the previous quarter when it was USD 33.66 (R277). South Africans currently pay R199 for an entry level DSL product from Telkom, lower than the global average of R226 per month. Entry level broadband prices Price per megabit South Africa did not perform well when looking at price-per-Mbps – a popular benchmark to compare the value of broadband offerings globally. Performances Veille © 2011 Performances MC - www.performancesconsulting.com - Tous droits réservés 10 Telkom‘s 4Mbps DSL product with 16GB of data costs R554, translating into a price-per-Mbps of R139. When a user is lucky enough to get speeds of up to 10Mbps, the effective per-Mbps price drops to R55. When looking at uncapped ADSL costs the price-per-Mbps typically range between R200 per Mbps and R250 per Mbps for the most popular uncapped ADSL products in the market. According to Point-Topic‘s Broadband Tariff Benchmark report, international DSL per-Mbps prices ranged between R30 and R50 – much lower than local rates. South Africa however compares more favourably with its peers in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. In these regions the average per-Mbps price is around R123 per Mbps – in line with local prices. It is therefore encouraging that South Africa is starting to compare more favorably with some global regions, but more work needs to be done to match the developed world.
