Eliz abeth J. Johnson, Geneviève C . Lille ,
and James R. Wil son
Elizabeth J. Johnson, Geneviève C. Lille, and James R. Wilson, all of Wilson &
Partners llp, Toronto, are the 2007 recipients of the Canadian Tax Foundation’s
Douglas J. Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing Award. Their article, “A Reasoned
Response to the cra’s Views on the Scope and Interpretation of Paragraph 95(6)(b),”
was published in (2006) vol. 54, no. 3 Canadian Tax Journal 571-632. The article was
selected by a committee of experienced tax professionals as the best writing published by the Foundation in 2006. The award, which is conferred annually, is named
for the Foundation’s director emeritus.
Elizabeth J. Johnson
Elizabeth J. Johnson received her llb in 1977 from the University of Toronto and her
llm in 1978 from Harvard University. She joined Wilson & Partners llp as a partner
in March 2003. Her practice covers all aspects of corporate tax matters, including
mergers and acquisitions, international tax planning, capital markets transactions, and
corporate reorganizations. Ms. Johnson has presented and written extensively on a
wide range of topics, including corporate finance, partnerships, interest deductibility,
and tax avoidance. She is the co-author of Understanding the Taxation of Partnerships
(5th ed.).
Geneviève C. Lille
Geneviève Lille received her llb and bcl degrees from McGill University in 1998,
and joined Wilson & Partners llp in 2004. She is the co-author of several articles,
and she has been a speaker at seminars organized by the Canadian Life and Health
Insurance Association, the Association de planification fiscale et financière, and the
Barreau du Québec. Ms. Lille’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and financial products and structures.
James R. Wilson
James R. Wilson is a partner of Wilson & Partners llp and a graduate of the University of Ottawa Law School (llb 1973). He practises tax law in the areas of mergers
and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and capital markets.

Leur article, « A Reasoned Response to the cra’s Views on the Scope and
Interpretation of Paragraph 95(6)(b) » a été publié dans (2006) vol. 54, no. 3 Revue
fiscale canadienne 571-632. L’article a été sélectionné par un comité de praticiens
chevronnés comme le meilleur texte publié par l’Association en 2006. Le prix, du
nom de feu le directeur émérite de l’Association, est accordé annuellement.

Elizabeth J. Johnson a obtenu son baccalauréat en droit (ll.b.) en 1977 de l’université
de Toronto et sa maîtrise en droit (ll.m.) en 1978 de l’université Harvard. Elle
s’est jointe à Wilson & Partners llp à titre d’associée en mars 2003. Ses activités
professionnelles couvrent tous les aspects de la fiscalité des sociétés, incluant les
fusions et acquisitions, la planification fiscale internationale, les marchés financiers
et les réorganisations d’entreprise. Elle a présenté et écrit de nombreuses
communications sur une grande variété de sujets incluant le financement
d’entreprises, les sociétés de personnes, la déductibilité des intérêts et l’évitement
fiscal. Elle est coauteur de Understanding the Taxation of Partnerships (5th ed.).
Geneviève C. Lille
Geneviève Lille a obtenu son baccalauréat en droit (ll.b.) et son baccalauréat en
common law (bcl) en 1998 de l’université McGill. Elle s’est jointe à Wilson & Partners
llp en 2004. Elle est coauteur de plusieurs articles, et a fait des présentations lors
de séminaires organisés par l’Association canadienne des compagnies d’assurances
de personnes, l’Association de planification fiscale et financière et le Barreau du
Québec. Ses activités professionnelles couvrent les fusions et acquisitions,
réorganisations d’entreprises et structures et produits financiers.
James R. Wilson
James R. Wilson est associé de Wilson & Partners llp et diplômé de la faculté de
droit de l’Université d’Ottawa (ll.b., 1973). Il exerce le droit fiscal dans les domaines
des fusions et acquisitions, réorganisations d’entreprises et marchés financiers.
