Oc tob er 14 | 1.3 0pm In this month reading, the narrator describes the dinner parties at the Guermantes house. The narrator realizes that the society he fantasized about is not what he thought it was. “In the period that followed I was continually to be invited, were it with a small party only, to these repasts at which I had at one time imagined the guests as seated like the Apostles in the Sainte-Chapelle. They did assemble there indeed, like the early Christians, not to partake merely of a material nourishment, which incidentally was exquisite, but in a sort of social Eucharist” FRENCH CINEMATHEQUE Thurs. Oct. 16 7:30pm Venus in fur Children & families welcome! The latest movie from master filmmaker Roman Polanski. Alone in a Paris theater after a long day of auditioning actresses for his new play, writer-director Thomas (Mathieu Amharic) complains that no actress he's seen has what it takes to play the lead female character: a woman who enters into an agreement with her male counterpart to dominate him as her slave. Thomas is about to leave the theater when actress Vanda (Emmanuelle Seigner) bursts in, a whirlwind of erratic - and, it turns out, erotic - energy Byram Shubert Library Avon Theatre - 272 Bedford St, Stamford CLUB DE LECTURE Mercredi 22 octobre | 13h30 Le dernier livre de Max Gallo, membre de l’Académie Française, publié cette année.
