A wonderful world of prmted calicofabrics unfolds
in the Musée de la Toile de Jouy in Jouy en Josas a
town on the scenic outskirts of Paris famous for its
own prmted cloths The exhibition brings together
a sublime selection of calico textiles from French
collector and the muséum s own v brant collection
Some 200 pieces of cotton fabrics painted and
prmted in India Persia the Provence region of France
and Jouy are on display along with 20 mannequins

The élégant Galerie Guillaume is devoting a
season to the American Expressionist artis!
Shirley Goldfarb, presenting, notably, her large
format paintmgs The artist, who died in 1980
moved to Pans in 1954 with her husband,the
artist Gregory Masurovsky and it was in Paris that
she shaped her artistic style She produced her
large scale abstract canvases, often applymg
the paint with a palette knife, in her Parisien
studio, with the works often characterised by
thick strokes Her pamtings are found in major
collections including the Muséum of Modem Art
in New York, the Georges Pompidou Centre and
the Muséum of Modem Art of Paris

The Being of Brasilia
Brasilia, the name of the Brazilian capital in and
of itself evokes wonder and enchantment. With
ils futuristic design, it émerges seemingly out of
nowhere in central Brazil. It is the brainchild of
the architect Oscar Niemeyer, the urban planner
Lucio Costa and the landscape artist Roberto Burle
Marx. New an exceptional exhibition entitled
Brasilia, a half century of the capital of Brazil, takes
a look back on the construction and history of this
urban utopia. Through documents, rare objects,
photographs and scale models, the exhibition
underscores the modernist thinking of its
builders. Brasilia was inscribed on UNESCO's World

Heritage List in 1987 and remains as a landmark
in the history of urban planning. The show is
fittingly being held in the headquarters of the
French Communist Party, a building that
wasdesigned by the Brazilian architect,
Niemeyer.
