Ho et Mark, membres de la pègre sont unis par une indéfectible amitié.
Kit, le petit frère de Ho, est flic et ignore tout de leurs activités. Quand
Ho se fait arrêter, Kit décide de le rayer de sa vie. Trois ans plus tard,
Ho sort de prison et découvre que Mark a perdu une jambe en cherchant à le venger. Rejeté par son jeune frère, épié par la police, Ho tente
de refaire sa vie, mais il se heurte à son ancien gang bien décidé à le
récupérer. Au prix du sang, Ho et Mark vont regagner leur honneur et
leur dignité perdus.
Malgré un casting improbable : une star du kung-fu tombé dans l'oubli,
(Ti Lung), un jeune chanteur pop sans réelle expérience de comédien
(Leslie Cheung) et un acteur de "soap" méprisé (Cho Yun-fat), Le
Syndicat du crime fait l'effet d'une bombe à Hong Kong, pulvérisant
tous les records au box-office et imposant le polar romantique comme
un genre majeur.

Ho and Mark belong to the underworld and their friendship is indefectible. Ho’s younger brother Kit is a cop ignoring their criminal activities. When Ho is arrested, Kit decides to blot him out of his mind. Three
years later when Ho gets out of prison, he finds Mark who lost the use
of a leg when trying to avenge him. Rejected by his younger brother
and watched by the police, Ho tries to start all over again, but he
needs to clash with his former gang wanting him back.
At the cost of their life, Ho and Mark will win back their lost honor and
dignity.
Despite an improbable casting with Ti Lung, a Kung-Fu star fallen in
oblivion, and Leslie Cheung, a young pop singer without any acting
experience, the film shattered all box-office success with an attendance
reaching record levels, while it also established the romantic
detective film as a main genre.

John Woo
John Woo est né en 1946
à Guangzhou. En 1951, ses
parents s’installent à Hong
Kong. Très jeune, il est assistant réalisateur aux studios Cathay puis aux Shaw
Brothers. En 1974, il réalise
son premier film, Les
Jeunes dragons. Il rejoint
ensuite la Golden Harvest
puis la Cinema City Company. Il signe alors ses
grands films hong kongais.
En 1992, il s’installe à Los
Angeles. Commence alors
sa carrière américaine.
