7. Past Employment
Entered the Indian Administrative Service in 1959
(on the basis of a highly competitive nationwide examination)
and spent the first 20 years years building experience firstly in
district (development) administration and secondly in International
Trade in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and in the Trade Development
Authority of India in Europe and then in the subsequent period
specialised in the Ministriesof Trade and Industries, taking premature
retirement from the service in 1989 after having served as Director General
of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade; Delhi
of Foreign Trade to join the Ecoled des Ponts in Paris
