Featuring on the same bill as the illustrious DTM, the event represents a superb opportunity to introduce World RX’s fast-and-furious, action to an entirely new audience. Team Peugeot-Hansen has travelled some 2,000km in less than a handful of days on its journey from Montalegre to Hockenheim. This weekend marks not only rallycross’s eagerly-anticipated debut at the legendary German Grand Prix venue, but also the first time that World RX finds itself twinned with a series as popular as the DTM. Every year, between 75,000 and 100,000 spectators descend upon Hockenheim to watch the opening round of this high-profile touring car contest – arguably the most fiercely-contested series of its kind. The track that has been specially designed for the World Rallycross Championship visit can be found right at the heart of Hockenheim’s spectacular Stadium section, and borrows part of the circuit used by the DTM. The 1.240km rallycross loop concludes with a loose-gravel section, and its layout means spectators seated in the imposing grandstands won’t miss a second of the high-octane, wheel-to-wheel entertainment! This tremendous opportunity to race in front of a new fan base is fully in-keeping with the development strategy implemented by IMG, promoter of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Whilst Timmy Hansen is already familiar with the asphalt part of the Hockenheim track from his triumphant single-seater days there, he will nonetheless need to get to grips with the new rallycross layout, as will team-mate Davy Jeanney and all of the pairing’s World RX rivals. This step into the unknown will present a real challenge for the championship’s teams and will thoroughly test their ability to adapt and react, but Team Peugeot-Hansen is confident that it is perfectly-prepared and equipped to maintain its advantage at the top of the title standings. In an atypical format, the weekend schedule will be spread over four days: - Thursday, April 30: Free Practice (17:25-18:25) - Friday, May 1: Qualifying Heats 1 & 2 (16:50-17:20 / 18:05-18:35) - Saturday, May 2: Qualifying Heats 3 & 4 (16:50-17:20 / 18:05-18:35) - Sunday, May 3: Semi-Finals & Final (11:40- 12:45) The action at Hockenheim will be broadcast on TV in more than 120 countries throughout the world. The semi-finals and final will be televised live in France on L’Equipe 21, in Sweden on TV10. Kenneth Hansen, Team Principal “Hockenheim is a new track for everybody in World RX, and we’re excited about competing on the same bill as the DTM. This is an incredible opportunity for the sport of rallycross. I hope the crowd and media at the circuit will enjoy the show that we put on for them! They don’t know a great deal about this discipline yet, and I’m eager to see what they make of it. Given that everyone will be discovering this track for the first time, much is going to boil down to who finds the optimum car set-up the quickest – and we will be doing our absolute utmost to make sure that is us!” FIA World Rallycross Championship – Drivers’ standings (after one round) 1.
