-1 - A LTER EG O A RT PROJECTS AXELLE KIEFFER Born and raised in France, Axelle currently lives and works in Savannah, Georgia, USA. Inspired by Francis Bacon and Albrecht Durer, Axelle Kieffer creates oil paintings, mixed-media collages and drawings reflecting her passion for exploring the relationship between body and spirit. Challenging the viewer, Axelle Kieffer’s layered, thought-provoking compositions reveal an impressive knowledge of human anatomy and botany. She collages anatomical drawings of bones and organs atop vintage black-and-white photographs of Victorian women, creating an unsettling freak-show effect. In her art, Axelle explores a spiritual realm in the unexpected: bones, muscles and blood. EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from the University of Strasbourg. During her postgraduate work Axelle studied the poems “Logogrammes” by Christian Dotremont, founder of the CoBrA art movement.
