It will never be quite the same. I am
where I am because of John
Killingbeck. Four years ago, he took
me aside and asked me to take on
the role of President of the
Foundation, his Foundation. I was
both honoured and scared. I didn’t
feel qualified to lead a fundraising
organization. I took this challenge
on
because
of
John’s
encouragement and never-ending
support.
It will never be the same. John
won’t be there at the table with us.
He won’t be supporting every
decision, encouraging us and
stopping us from worrying about
spending more than some thought
we should, because every project
that gave even one child an
opportunity to shine was worth
funding.
It will never be the same, but it will
always be strong because this board
is committed to sustaining and
growing John’s Foundation. I know
he will continue to inspire us and to
guide us.
Thank you, John, for all that you’ve
given to the Foundation and the
community. We miss you.
The focus for PEF this upcoming
year will be to strengthen the
infrastructure of the Foundation and
ensure it’s ability to grow and keep
up with the demands of the Lester
B. Pearson Community.
We plan to hire a part-time
Executive Director and build a
comprehensive database of our
partners and supporters.
We will continue our major
programs including Grants to
Schools and the Margaret Manson
Learning Awards. We will continue
to offer services to schools by
managing funds for them and
providing charitable receipts to their
donors.
At this time, I would like to thank
Bob Mills, Viviane Croubalian, Rémi
Poliquin and Marcus Tabachnick for
their tireless support this past year.
And a warm welcome to Claire
Giroux, our administrative assistant.

Rien ne sera plus pareil. Je suis où je
suis à cause de John Killingbeck. Il y a
quatre ans, il m’a prise à part pour
me demander d’assumer le rôle de
présidente de la Fondation, sa
Fondation. J’étais à la fois honorée et
terrifiée. Je ne me sentais pas
qualifiée pour diriger un organisme
de collecte de fonds. J’ai décidé de
relever
ce
défi
grâce
aux
encouragements de John et de son
soutien indéfectible.
Ce ne sera plus pareil. John ne sera
plus là, autour de la table, avec nous.
Il ne pourra plus appuyer chaque
décision, nous encourageant et nous
empêchant de nous faire du souci si
nous dépensions plus que certains
pensaient sage de le faire, parce que
chaque projet qui donne la chance à
un enfant de briller vaut la peine
d’être financé.

La Fondation ne sera plus pareille,
mais elle sera toujours forte parce
que cette commission scolaire s’est
engagée à soutenir et faire croître la
Fondation de John Killingbeck. Je
sais qu’il continuera de nous inspirer
et de nous guider. Merci, John, pour
tout ce que vous avez donné à la
Fondation et à la communauté. Vous
nous manquez.
L’objectif de la Fondation Pearson
pour l’éducation sera de renforcer
son infrastructure et d’assurer son
capacité de croître et de continuer à
répondre aux demandes de la
communauté de Lester-B.-Pearson.
Nous prévoyons embaucher un
directeur général à temps partiel et
bâtir une base de données complète
de nos partenaires et de nos
donateurs.
Nous continuerons nos principaux
PRÉSIDENTE
programmes, y compris les
subventions aux écoles et les Prix
Margaret-Manson.
Nous
continuerons d’offrir des services
aux écoles en gérant des fonds
pour elles et en fournissant des
reçus pour dons de charité à leurs
donateurs.
Je voudrais remercier Bob Mills,
Viviane Croubalian, Rémi Poliquin
et Marcus Tabachnick pour leur
soutien de cette dernière année. Je

Some numbers this
past year..
 Fashion Show raised
$4,200.
 We bought 8 pairs of boots,
6 snowsuits and a pair of
runners from the Rona
Cupak fund.
 Day Tripper donated
$2,000 proceeds from the
show they did at PCHS
 Margaret Manson Learning Awards were give out
at 11 high schools, 2 adult
centres, 3 vocational centres,
2 alternative programs and
36 elementary schools.
The
Margaret
Manson
Learning Award recognizes a
graduating student who has
overcome
significant
challenges or obstacles
along
the
path
to
graduation. Since the 20002001 school year, students
from all our secondary
schools and adult and
vocational centres have
been receiving this bursary.
With the generous support
of Babar Books and John
Mrenice Holdings, we were
able to expand the awards to
students
in
all
our
elementary schools. Instead
of a bursary, we chose to
award the grade 6 students a
book.
The principals
enthusiastically
provided
age, reading levels and
interests of the winners.
We are deeply grateful to
Maya Byers of Babar Books
went above and beyond by
spending hours selecting a
special volume for each of
the 38 chosen children.

certificates for the occasion.
The smiles and pride of our
young award winners are
unforgettable.

spéciales, Viviane Croubalian

L’appui de Mme Croubalian
pour la fondation a toujours
été solide, et quand elle a
accepté de diriger le comité
du tournoi de golf, elle a pris
cette tâche très au sérieux.
Elle a fait des recherches, a
formé une bonne équipe et
a dominé la situation du
début à la fin. Seul
l’événement
le
plus
performant
pourrait
convenir à notre Fondation.
Elle
reste
un
atout
incomparable pour nous et
nous lui sommes très
reconnaissants.
Me Rémi Poliquin nous a
beaucoup aidés lorsque la
Fondation de l’Ouest-de-l’Île
pour
l’éducation
est
devenue
la
Fondation
Pearson pour l’Éducation.
L’expérience
qu’il
avait
acquise à sa commission
scolaire précédente s’est
avéré inestimable. Il a
occupé
le
poste
de
secrétaire
au
Conseil
d’administration pendant 10
ans et continue d’agir à titre
de conseiller juridique au
besoin.
Nous
pouvons
toujours compter sur son
soutien.

CAMP VENTURE
This summer was the second
year of our camp in LaSalle for
students with affective challenges. Camp Explorations
evolved into Camp Venture.
The Family & School Support &
Treatment Team (FSSTT) proposed the elementary students with whom they worked
during the academic year, for
this two week day camp in
August, just before school
starts again. Many of these
students have been barred
from other camps and community activities because of
their maladaptive behavior. At
Venture, these children were
made to feel comfortable and
accepted, making the camp
experience everything
it
should be for a child.
The first year all the participants came from one school,
knew each other, and knew all
the facilitators. It was a huge
leap for the students and the
program that this year, coming from all the schools in Lasalle, in two short weeks, they
were able to form attachments
and have fun together. Activities included morning circle
time, arts & crafts, daily swimming at the nearby pool, to
the highlight of the session, a field trip to a riding
school in St-Lazare. Some
of these kids had never
seen the countryside before, let alone had a ride on
a pony.
The LBP FSSTT workers
were so excited by the
Camp that many of the
other FSSTT technicians
came and volunteered
their time for specific activities, in collaboration
with their paid colleagues.
The students all had an
excellent start to their
school year and the team
started planning how best
to grow in 2011 before the
2010 camp had even
ended.
Venture Camp could not
have taken place without
the support of Principal Jane
Fullerton-Kelly, who opened
the school for the program
and without the new and
exciting partnership between the PEF and the
Montreal Real Estate Board
Foundation for Kids, who
together funded the Venture.

métalliques pour l’école

primaire St. Anthony
 un
projet
de
vermicompostage à Forest Hill
Junior.
Et,
bien
entendu,
nous
continuons d’apporter notre
soutien
à
beaucoup
de
programmes
de
musique,
d’activités de leadership, ainsi
qu’à la Journée de science et de
technologie John-Scholefied qui
a permis à plus de 16 000 élèves
d’expérimenter de manière
pratique les merveilles de la
science, de la technologie, du
génie et des mathématiques.

We couldn’t have been
more excited when the
Beatles Tribute Band, Day
Tripper, offered to perform
a fundraiser for the Pearson Educational Foundation.
This band have perfect
replicas of the Fab Four’s
"Hard Days Night" suits,
note-for-note 3 part harmonies and exact instrumentation, leaving even
the most scrutinizing fans
have never been so faithfully
reproduced. Years of painstakingly detailed work went into
studying and perfecting the
mannerisms,
personalities,
accents and vocal styles of
each Beatle. We felt what it
was like to be there.

Through a commitment to public education and the promotion of learning for all, the Foundation
believes in enhancing the opportunity for all students to become life-long learners, self-assured,
respectful and responsible to their community.
Recognizing that government funding of public education is finite, the Foundation supports students
and furthers this goal by supplying seed money to a broad array of projects generated by the
teachers and administrators of the LBP community.
