Assuming the legacy of progressive pop of the 1970’s, Electric Epic is an innovative fusion of contemporary jazz, funky grooves and howling heavy metal. At the crossroads of different aesthetics, the original repertoire of the album combines ambitious themes and wild improvisations, while the hypnotic loops are boosted by a rhythmic section that has that unusual warmth and efficiency. In order to reveal the power and the subtlety of this extreme, contemporary and hybrid music, Dominique “Dume” Poutet was in charge of producing the album (Laurent de Wilde, DTC Records, Ti’Fock…). This quartet, their setlist and performance are enthralling, like a great fresh draft that will literally stun you when looking at the sudden range of possibilities of what we call music, in addition to bringing great smiles of satisfaction to the faces of the fortunate ones this evening.” 16.12.2009 TSF JAZZ Jean Charles Doukhan “Saxophonist Guillaume Perret has brought a fresh impetus to the French jazz scene. His Electric Epic project is an inimitable mix of improvisations, grooves and electric manipulations drenched in the most howling metal genre. An innovative and spellbinding repertoire interpreted by means of great hits of effects.” 23.04.2009 20 MINUTES SUISSE Juan Carlos Hernandez “Guillaume Perret managed to set up his most precious project and take us on a journey by offering us a both poetic and brutal kind of music, imbued with jazz, groove and electro. As a great master of the saxophone’s technique, he had this desire to go a step further by electrifying it in order to allow us to discover some still unheard sound and effects : from the soft rustling of the wind among the leaves to the trumpeting of an elephant, giving us its resembling sound : a humble, soft and brilliant one.” 16.04.2010 LE TRITON Jean Pierre Vivante “Their concert at the Triton last March was -for everyone who attended it- a real electroshock. The musical language is groundbreaking and fascinating, a blend of contemporary jazz, grooves, funk, howling metal... A majestic mastery of sounds, a striking set-up, some hellish improvisations, hypnotic rhythms, risky stunts, a smooth and moving, dynamic and off-the-wall orchestra, along with a poetic and an atypical transe.” 15.12.2009 CRISS CROSS Mathieu Durand “In the beginning was Massacra. It is the first track of a sample album which deserves to be enrolled right away in a record label worthy of the name. The power that comes out of it is simply breathtaking. -Mind your heartbeat if you’re a bit too sensitive- they should have mentioned on the cover just like a Parental Advisory on an Death Row disk. They could also have added : “If you’ve got heart problems, please keep off !” Because Electric Epic possesses this rare emotional strength. In that case, it is quite easy to refer to the greatest, from John Zorn to David Lynch or Mr. Bungle. It also reminds us of the cream of the crop band for the combination of rage and emotion : Nirvana.” Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic - page 3/10 Guillaume Perret Tenor & soprano saxophones / Effects / Composition A lways on the move on the European scene, he participates into numerous projects as saxophonist, leader, co-leader and sideman, composer and arranger. Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic - page 7/10 Sir Alice (Guest) Vocals / Lyrics S he performed for the first time at age 14 with a rock alternative punk band while attending school at the same time, achieving the highest standards. Gratuated in Cognitive Sciences and neurosciences, she is now a researcher at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) specializing in ‘‘Man Vs Machine interfaces’’. At that time, she signed her first E.P. with record label Tigersushi. It was both a post-punk and a very state-of-the-art electro experimental music which she had entirely produced on her own. Her very special voice allowed her to be featured on various projects, such as well-known band Nouvelle Vague or as part of improvised music projects. More recently, Maxime Delpierre offered her to play Diva in « Viva & The Diva », an emerging band with kraut rock and hip hop influences. Known as an author, composer and mainly as a musical interpreter, she also writes for choregraphies, contemporary ensembles or for her own artistic projects. She stood out in Contemporary Art as a performer. Today, she also creates video and photos’ artworks. Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic - page 8/10 Médéric Collignon (Guest) Cornet / Vocals / Effects I nfluenced by his educational background in classical music, along with a great musical curiosity as well as showing a strong personality, Médéric Collignon imposed his originality with his chosen instrument in life : a pocket cornet from which he shows a very supple approach to his mouthpiece. Simultaneously, he started using his voice like an instrument. Also remarkable are his vocal improvisations which mix scat, beatbox and singing exercises in the upper register. He uses electronic effects to alter his voice, to amplify it or to modulate it. He also plays double trumpet, trombone, bugle as well as keyboards, electronic percussions or merely toys. In his early years in Paris -from 1996 to 1997- Médéric Collignon met some of the great French jazz musicians such as François Jeanneau, Louis Sclavis, Michelx Portal and Denis Badault. With his Jus de Bocse Quartet, he recorded two albums as a tribute to Miles Davis : Porgy and Bess (2006) and also covered Miles Davis’ 1959’s version of George Gershwin’s Opera. And ShangriTunkashi-La (2010) who explored Miles Davis’ electric period from 1969 to 1975. In 2007, the album Porgy and Bess was awarded Jazz Prize for best Music Discovery of the Year. Médéric Collignon was also awarded Prix Django Reinhardt in 2008 and the following year he obtained the Django d’Or Spectacle vivant / Spedidam (Prize for Performing Arts). He was knighted Chevalier des Arts et Lettres on the 31st of March 2009. Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic - page 9/10 www.breakz.fr [email protected] +33 6 76 597 889
