Carfagna’s Hunger for Expansion
Carfagna’s, a local family‐owned and operated grocery store, has been serving its Ohio customers for more than 75 years. Today the company is run by the third generation, Sam and Dino Carfagna who’ve added “Carfagna’s Kitchen,” a restaurant where people can come and enjoy the same quality of food and service they’ve received in the store. Expanding the business again with the help of the Ohio Statewide Development Corporation and PNC Bank, Carfagna’s acquired and improved the real estate located at 3518 Johnny Appleseed Court, Columbus, OH. The facility is an 11,000 square foot industrial/warehouse building that houses the manufacturing and food production portion of their business. The former location was 72 years old and was in need of modernization. It was also land locked and prevented expansion and did not provide parking for the employees. At their new facility on Johnny Appleseed, the borrower now has adequate parking for all employees and is 3.4 miles from their grocery store, whereas their existing location was 12 miles from the store. Additionally, the new space allows the borrowers to have a more organized office space and conference room. At the new food production facility, the company will have increased production capacity which will expand the catering side of the business. Additionally, the new facility has enabled the business to expand their frozen food line and jarred sauces which are now available in national supermarkets such as Kroger & Giant Eagle. OSDC is proud to have partnered with PNC Bank to help one of Columbus’s landmark businesses grow. In addition to the new facility, Carfagna’s will be adding six employees helping to meet the SBA’s goal of job creation and improving the local economy.
