Biography
I have a background in physical chemistry that I acquired at Nancy Université. I worked on my Ph.D. in
the Laboratoire de Chimie Théorique under the guidance of Bernard Maigret, while being a regular guest
of the group of Harold Scheraga at Cornell University. After defending my doctorate thesis with honors,
cum laude, I joined the group of Peter A. Kollman at the University of California, San Francisco. I subsequently was awarded a research-associate sponsorship by the National Academy of Sciences, U.S.A. to
work in the group of Andrew Pohorille at the NASA Ames Research Center. In 1996, the C NRS recruited
me at the level of research associate in the Nancy theoretical chemistry group. There, I initiated a new
research theme on the numerical simulations of the biological membrane and its various components.
Concomitant to an activity determinedly oriented towards applications, I developed original approaches
in the field of free-energy calculations within the Gordon-Bell award recipient NAMD program in collaboration with the group of Klaus Schulten at the University of Illinois in Urbana–Champaign. My
developments also extend to the accurate description of intermolecular interactions in numerical simulations, including, for instance, induction phenomena. In 2000, I received my habilitation and was
promoted in 2006 by the C NRS at the level of research director. Since then, I have been heading the
Équipe de Dynamique des Assemblages Membranaires at Nancy Université.
