Orange Belt techniques. Morote Seoi Nage – Double Lapel Shoulder Throw Break the balance of Uke forwards; take control of both lapels to bring Uke over your shoulder. Eri Seoi Nage – Single Lapel Shoulder Throw Break the balance forwards; take control of the single lapel to bring Uke over your shoulder. Morote Seoi Otoshi – Double lapel shoulder drop Same actions as Morote Seoi Nage dropping onto your knee to bring Uke over your shoulder. Eri Seoi Otoshi – Single lapel Shoulder drop Same actions as Eri Seoi Nage dropping onto your knee to bring Uke over your shoulder. Harai Goshi – Sweeping Hip Throw Break balance to the front and turn in, lift uke onto your hip whilst sweeping away both legs. Hane Goshi – Spring hip Throw Break balance to the front and turn in, lift uke onto your hip and “spring” both legs away with your bent leg. Tsuri Komi Goshi – Lifting Pulling Hip Throw Break balance to the front and turn in, lift uke onto your hip dropping lower for more leverage, lifting and pulling Uke over you hip in one movement. Sasae Tsuri Komi Ashi – Propping Drawing Ankle Break balance diagonally forwards; placing your foot to “trip” Uke as they try and take a step forwards. Ko Soto Gari – Minor Outer Reaping/Sweep Break balance backwards; step through on the side of Uke to sweep their leg with your opposite foot. Ground work. Kame shiho gatame – Upper four quarters Apply pressure to Uke’s chest from above their head, and control them by placing both arms under their shoulders and holding their belt. Kuzure Kame shiho gatame – Broken upper four quarters Perform the same as Kame shiho gatame, but this time one arm goes under the shoulder and one arm over the top of the shoulder and nestled into their armpit. Kuzure Kesa Gatame – Broken Scarf Hold Apply pressure to Uke’s chest and control them by placing one hand/arm under the opposite shoulder, and trapping Uke’s arm across your waist/stomach. Kuzure Yoko Shiho Gatame – Broken Side Four quarters Apply pressure to Uke’s chest and control them by placing one hand/arm under the opposite shoulder to where you are lying, and your other arm between Uke’s legs and taking hold of their jacket, belt or trousers. Ushiro Kesa gatame – Reverse Scarf Hold Apply pressure to Uke’s chest and control them by placing one hand/arm under the opposite shoulder, and trapping Uke’s arm across your waist/stomach. This time facing Uke’s feet. This is the first of the strangles that you will do. Any strangle or armlock should be applied with gentle steady pressure, no sudden jerking movement, and should be released immediately on Uke’s submission. This applies to all strangles and arm locks. All strangles will be shown in the demonstration position, where applicable Tori will have his/her leg placed by Uke’s side for Uke to tap on for submission. Ushiro Jime – Reverse Strangle (variant of Hadake Jime) Tori places his/her arm around Uke’s neck and cups his/her wrist with his other hand to apply pressure to Uke’s neck. Hadaka Jime – Naked Strangle Tori places his/her arm around Uke’s neck and takes hold of his/her opposite arms “elbow pit”, the opposite arm is then bent behind the head of Uke with back of the hand to Uke’s head (inset) to avoid “cupping” Uke’s head during application of the strangle. Kataha Jime – Single Wing Strangle Tori places his/her arm around Uke’s neck and takes hold of Uke’s lapel, Tori’s other arm takes control of Uke’s arm and then places his/her arm behind the head of Uke with back of the hand to Uke’s head to avoid “cupping” Uke’s head during application of the strangle. Ude gatame – Elbow lock Take hold of Uke’s opposite arm and place their wrist on your shoulder, apply pressure to the elbow with your hands to achieve a submission. Ude garame _ Entangled Armlock Also referred to as a figure four armlock, entwine Uke’s arm as shown, then lift the elbow and pull in to gain submission.
