PRIMARY SCHOOLS WITH INTERNATIONAL SECTIONS IN STRASBOURG
The International Sections in Strasbourg provide bilingual teaching from nursery to year 5 (CM2). The children can
then complete their schooling in the secondary international sections.
The primary schools with international sections are French state schools under the authority of the Ministry for
Education. This education is free.
The goals of the international sections are :
-
To facilitate the integration of children into the French school system and enable them to
reintegrate into their own education system should they return to their country of origin ;
To create a learning environment which enables language-learning at a high level for French
children, thanks to the presence of foreign children;
To encourage the transmission of each language section’s cultural heritage(s).
School activities are the same as in every French primary school, according to the objectives set at national level.
There are 24 hours in the school week, divided up over 4 days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.
Each class is led by a French teacher.
Specialist teachers (native speakers) are responsible for language teaching.
Language teaching is provided at two levels :
-
« Special teaching » for pupils who have previously had a prolonged contact with the chosen language;
two languages are available: English and German.
« National teaching » for native speakers; four languages are possible: English, German, Italian, Spanish.
(German and English for the primary school of Conseil des XV)
Language lessons, which are during the time allotted for subjects other than French or Maths, are spread out
throughout the school week, according to a timetable established for each class.
French teaching is carried out by the class teacher and is completed, where necessary, with French as a foreign
language lessons (Français Langue Etrangère = FLE).
English as a foreign language (Anglais Langue Etrangère = ALE) can also be provided for non English-speaking
foreign pupils. These lessons are included in the statutory weekly timetable.

Applications for September 2011 should be submitted around February and March 2011.
Briefings « open doors » events will be held.
The pupils who are candidates for a place in a primary school with international sections, will take a language test.
German, Italian and Spanish tests at Schuman school – English tests at Conseil des XV school.
A notification (specifying the date, place and the time of the test) will be sent to you by the school principal.
The enrolment files, checked by the services of the Inspection Académique, are passed on to the headteachers of
the schools with international sections.
After studying them, the headteachers present their proposals to the Inspectrice d’Académie who will pronounce
the admissions during the course of June and will inform the families of the decision that has been made.
The allocation of children to different schools is made after consultation between headteachers and
according to the requirements and educational places available in groups.
In view of the limited number of places in the international sections, it is important, in case your candidature is not
accepted, to register your child at the Town Hall in your place of residence in preparation for attending school in
your local area instead.
Any child who is not present after eight half days at the beginning of the school year will lose the benefit of his/her
admission to a school with international sections and will have to integrate the school in his/her area of residence.
Paper files should reach full
