On VIA Rail trains without checked baggage service
or a baggage car, you can bring two pieces of baggage.
On Renaissance trains and those with baggage cars,
you can check up to seven pieces (the first four are
free) as well as carry on one piece. Depending on the
route and destination, passengers on some trains with
checked baggage service and baggage cars
may check from six (three free) to twelve (six free)
articles. Be sure to ask about baggage limits when
making reservations.
For an additional charge, you can check your bicycle,
a canoe, and most other large pieces of outdoor gear
on trains that have a baggage car. In most stations,
you can also obtain protective packaging materials for
these items.
Pets (such as cats, dogs, and rodents) travel caged, in
the baggage car. Guide dogs are welcome in the passenger compartment.

Carry-on items must not exceed 66 x 46 x 23 cm and
must not weigh more than 23 kg.
Additional charges apply to checked bags weighing
from 23 to 34 kg or measuring between 120 and 180
cm, excluding large pieces of outdoor gear and animal
cages, for which different fees apply.

Wheelchairs, stretchers, and wheelchair-scooters can
be checked free of charge.

Many items are not permitted aboard trains, such as
fishing rods without carrying cases. When in doubt,
ask a VIA agent.

À bord de VIA Rail, deux bagages à main sont permis
dans les trains sans fourgon ni enregistrement des
bagages. Dans les trains avec voitures Renaissance et
fourgon à bagages, on peut enregistrer au maximum
sept articles dont quatre gratuitement, et prendre en
plus avec soi un article dans la voiture. Selon les trajets
et les destinations, certains trains avec fourgon et enregistrement des bagages acceptent jusqu’à six articles
(dont trois gratuitement) et d’autres, un maximum de
douze (dont six gratuitement) en plus de deux bagages
à main. Renseignez-vous bien la prochaine fois que vous
ferez une réservation.
Moyennant un supplément, vous pouvez transporter
votre vélo, votre canot et la plupart de vos autres gros
bagages de plein air à bord des trains qui offrent
l’enregistrement des bagages. Et, par la même occasion,
vous pouvez vous procurer des boîtes et des sacs de
protection dans la plupart des gares.
Les animaux de compagnie (chats, chiens et petits
rongeurs) voyageront en cage, dans le fourgon à
bagages. Les chiens guides sont les bienvenus dans les
voitures.
La dimension des bagages à main ne doit pas excéder
66 x 46 x 23 cm et leur poids ne pas dépasser 23 kg.
Un coût supplémentaire s’applique aux bagages enregistrés pesant entre 23 et 34 kg ou mesurant entre 120
et 180 cm, à l’exception des gros bagages de plein air
et des animaux de compagnie (d’autres frais d’enregistrement s’appliquent alors).
Vous pouvez enregistrer gratuitement, comme bagage,
votre fauteuil roulant, votre civière ou votre triporteur.
Il existe toute une liste d’objets interdits à bord des trains,
comme les cannes à pêche sans étui. Renseignez-vous.
