The last rock of the Last Chance Bonspiel has been thrown and the machinery which maintained our
winter playground for the past 6 ½ months has now been turned off. I hope that you have enjoyed this
season as much as I have. I congratulate all of our curlers, (not just those who had the good fortune
to win an event), for a year of fun and good curling. Thank you to the large group of volunteers and
our two first-rate employees, manager Barbara Watkins and ice master Jamie Sage for making it
happen. At this time, I would also like to express my thanks to Pierre Hamelin who has throughout the
year, provided excellent translations for many documents.
Thanks to the expertise of Allan Stefanik and his staff, we enjoyed an excellent meal at the Club’s
Closing Dinner on April 12th. The “B” and “C” championship games for the Woodward Competition
were both competitive matches with a good crowd in attendance. Thank you to Mike Chuipka for
organizing the competition and to Michel LeBlanc who has in charge of the Closing Dinner.
The “A” final was delayed until Wednesday, April 16th, to permit the Andrew Mackay team to
represent our club at the regional qualifier for the Dominion National Club Curling Championship.
They came up one game short in their attempt to reach the provincial championship event. I hope that
they will try again next year. The championship game shared the ice with our 1st year players who
were competing in the Green Singles event, organized by Sylvain Descoteaux. An excellent crowd
was on hand to cheer on the curlers. The team of Andrew Mackay, Dave Mackay, Marc Richard and
Mike Chuipka defeated the team of Pierre Poulin, Yvon Goneau, Michel LeBlanc and Benny Angelini
in the Woodward “A” final. Pierre Loyer defeated Patrick Laurin in the Green Singles final. There
were 12 curlers entered in the event.
Dave Stanway did an excellent job of coordinating the Last Chance Bonspiel with many others
volunteering to provide the dinner and snacks, tend bar and prepare the ice. A highlight of the event
was the Friday night performance by Denis Barsalo’s band. We had 24 teams participating in the
event. A team from Laval finished on top.
Our summer project list includes, among others, the renovation of the men’s bathroom, replacement
of the flooring at the ground level, the installation of on-ice cameras and monitors, and several roofing
and compressor room projects.
The Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 28th at 19h00. While your
focus will likely be on outdoor activities, it is very important that we have strong
representation by our membership at this meeting. I very much hope to see you there as we
wrap up this season and look ahead to the next one.

La dernière pierre du Tournoi Dernière Chance (Last Chance Bonspiel) s’est immobilisée et les
équipements d’entretien de notre théâtre hivernal de ces derniers 6½ mois sont au repos. J’espère
que vous avez su profiter autant que moi de la saison de curling. Je félicite tous et toutes les curleurs,
que vous ayez ou non eu la bonne fortune de remporter une compétition, pour une saison amusante
de bon curling. Merci à un groupe imposant de bénévoles et à nos employés sans pareils, notre
gérante Barbara Watkins et notre spécialiste de la glace Jamie Sage, qui tous ensembles ont fait de
cette saison une réussite. Je veux également remercier Pierre Hamelin qui a assuré la traduction de
nombreux documents toute la saison durant.
L’expertise d’Allan Stefanic et son équipe nous a servi un excellent repas lors du Diner de Clôture du
Club ce 12 avril dernier. Les finales « B » et « C » de la compétition Woodward furent des parties aux
pointages serrés très appréciées par un bon nombre de spectateurs. Merci à Mike Chuipka
l’organisateur de la compétition et à Michel Leblanc le responsable du Diner de Clôture.
La finale « A » fut reportée au mercredi16 avril afin de permettre à l’équipe Andrew MacKay de
représenter notre club lors des qualifications régionales du « Dominion National Club Curling
Championship ». Leur tentative de progresser jusqu’au Championnat Provincial s’est arrêtée une
partie à court. J’espère qu’ils essayeront de nouveau l’an prochain. Lors de la finale « A », sur les
pistes voisines les curleurs de 1ère année étaient en compétition pour le championnat du « Greens
Singles » organisé par Sylvain Descoteaux, 12 joueurs ont participé. De nombreux spectateurs
étaient présents pour encourager les curleurs. L’équipe de Andrew MacKay, Dave Mackay, Marc
Richard et Mike Chuipla a défait l’équipe de Pierre Poulain, Yvon Goneau, Michel Leblanc et Benny
Angelini dans la finale Woodward « A ». Pierre Loyer a triomphé de Patrick Laurin dans la finale du
« Green Singles »
Dave Stanway a fait un excellent travail de coordinateur du tournoi « Last Chance » avec le support
de plusieurs bénévoles dévoués au souper, aux collations, au bar et à la préparation de la glace. L’un
des faits saillants du tournoi fut la performance de de Denis Barsalo et son orchestre le vendredi
soir.
Nos projets pendant l’été comprennent, entre autres, la rénovation de la salle de toilettes du vestiaire
masculin, le remplacement du tapis au rez-de-chaussée, l’installation de caméras et d’écrans au
plafond de la surface glacée, ainsi que la réfaction de certaines surfaces de toiture et des travaux
dans la salle de compresseurs.
L’Assemblée Générale Annuelle aura lieu le mercredi 28 mai, à 19:00 heures. Même si à cette
date vous accordez plus d’attention aux activités extérieures, il est très important que les
membres du Club soient nombreux pour cette assemblée. J’espère bien vous y voir pour la
clôture de notre saison et la préparation ordonnée de la prochaine.
