Rehabilitatio n was an interesting o ptio n to test the feasibility o f the standard in the resto ratio n o f buildings. The starting po int was a building in Íbero , a small to wn near Pamplo na, Navarra. The existing building had an irregular plant, with a sto ne east facade to the Larreberri street, and west facade to the inner co urtyard. The co nstructio n o f this ho use is traditio nal, with sto ne lo ad-bearing walls, wo o den beams and ceramic brick co ver. It was decided to keep the o uter shell, so that the demo litio n o f the o ther elements was a co mplex pro cess. Because we have tried to fo llo w the Passivhaus standard, we have been taken into special co nsideratio n issues such as the tightness o f the building, to prevent leaks, and the thermal envelo pe, to achieve a co nstant and pleasant indo o r temperature. Therefo re, the sheets have been placed in o rder to seal all elements o f the structure, and a wo o d fiber insulatio n has been us ed thro ugh the inside, to iso late evenly all elements and avo id thermal bridges. In the hearth, ho wever, iso lattio n was perfo rmed fro m the o utside. The ho using is designed with a co nstructive system o f laminated wo o d structure, built against the façade preserved and existing party walls, with blo wn insulatio n and interio rs finished with plate plasterbo ard. Ceramic tiles co ver and wo o den beams have been preserved, using the wo o d fiber insulatio n blo wn by the interio r and finish plasterbo ard. The fo rged against gro und is designed as a hearth with EPS insulatio n o n the o utside, and finished with ceramic tiles. A triple wo o dwo rk was cho sen with glass and air and argo n chambers; the po sitio n o f the windo ws and their enco unter with the enclo sure changes fro m o ne facade to ano ther: in the sto ne facades and o ld brick were placed with sub-frame, to the inner face; in the half-timbered facades they were placed inside rebateless. The reno vatio n o f the indo o r air is perfo rmed by a ventilatio n system with dual-flo w heat exchanger o f high efficiency, which allo ws us to heat fresh air driven by the heat extracted fro m stale air. With a co ntinuo us flo w o f filtered and reno vated air, levels o f CO2 and vo latile o rganic co mpo unds (VOC o r VOC) are kept to a minimum. It has been installed in the ventilatio n system, a battery aftertreatment air, befo re pushing to acclimate the ho using. Pro ductio n o f do mestic ho t water (DHW) has been fixed with a heat aero thermal pump , to extract energy fro m the o utside air, even at lo w temperatures. In turn, the heat pump is co nnected to the radiating panels installed o n the walls o f the ro o ms. All facilities are do mo tized, which will co ntro l the ventilatio n system, heating and air co nditio ning, thro ugh the Lo xo ne system, co nnected to a web server which can be accessed fro m mo bile, tablet o r PC. Once the wo rk was finished, the Blo wer Do o r seal test was perfo rmed, o btaining a result o f 0 .6 reno vatio ns, thus meeting the Passivhaus standard. The standard gives prio rity to thermal co mfo rt and to the drastic reductio n o f energy demands, thanks to thermal insulatio n, reductio n o f thermal bridges and ensuring the sealing, which means that co ld spo ts and currents are minimized. As far as po ssible, they have cho sen materials with a lo w enviro nmental impact, such as the iso latio n o f natural fibers blo wn wo o den structure laminated wo o d, wo o d flo o ring, and the use o f co tto n and natural latex mattresses and bedding. De script io n archit e ct urale : The ho use has a flo o r space o f 26 4.6 0 m2 o n 3 flo o rs. The existing building was demo lished inside, preserving the co ver and the façade to the Larreberri street. It was decided to preserve the facade to preserve its traditio nal image and beco me harmo nio usly integrated into the urban enviro nment. In terms o f design, building strategy is based o n building a wo o den structure inside the preserved envelo pe, iso lating the interio r with natural wo o d fibers and finished with insuflated plasterbo ard panels.
