Featured links to other websites PESTICIDES have been found in all non-organic mueslis tested, with a study finding traces of chemicals including endocrine disruptors. The tests were carried out by food safety group association Générations Futures, which tested 20 types of muesli sold by major brands and supermarket own-brands. Results revealed that on average, the 15 non-organic mueslis contained traces of nine pesticides, including endocrine disruptors (chemicals that interfere with the hormonal system) – and one sample had traces of 14 pesticides. On average, the contaminated samples had concentrations of pesticide 354 times that allowed in water. There were no traces of pesticides or endocrine disruptors in the five organic cereals tested. While the pressure group said that the average consumption of 50 to 100g of cereal a day was not dangerous, experts are still concerned over possible long-term effects, especially for young children and pregnant women. Générations Futures president François Veillerette said: “Pregnant women should not be exposed to any endocrine disruptors.” He was also concerned over the ‘cocktail effect’ of the combined traces of different pesticides. The non-organic mueslis tested were: All Bran Fruit' fibres Kellogg’s; Crousty 4 fruits Auchan; Muesli (pétales de blé) Fruits et Fibres Auchan; Muesli Alpen sans sucre ajouté; Muesli Bran Form fruits secs Brin de jour; Muesli Carrefour 7 fruits; Muesli Carrefour Fruits et Fibres; Muesli Classic morceaux de fruits Chabrior; Muesli croustillant aux fruits Brin de Jour; Muesli Jordans Country Crisp céréales complètes fruits et noix; Muesli Jordans Suprême 40% fruits; Muesli Kellogg’s Country Store; Muesli Kellogg’s Extra pépites crunchy muesli; Nestlé Fitness 5 fruits and Spécial Muesli 30% fruits et noix Jordans.
