DESCRIPTION
Day 1
Enjoy a guided tour at the Adrien Dubouché national Museum – Sèvres &
Limoges - "Cité de la céramique". In the beautiful and recently refurbished
buildings lies an exceptional, national-reference collection of ceramics from
different periods (stoneware, earthenware and porcelain), manufacturing
techniques and contemporary design. Visit the Museum’s shop where you will
find a beautiful porcelain item or a specific literature.
Then, enjoy a city tour, the City Centre and then
City Hall.
In the City Centre, where you can have a lunch in
one of the numerous restaurants, see the rich
heritage and numerous sights, including examples
of the use of ceramics in public space like the
Verdurier Pavilion and its decoration with
sandstone mosaics and floral friezes, and the
Halles which remains the architecture erected for
Universal Exhibitions. This one displays a
porcelain frieze on which market fruits are
depicted.
Les Halles covered market
Go to the porcelain fountain in front of the city hall (one of the rare examples
of porcelain pieces encrusted in a bronze sculpture). If the remarkable building
of the City Hall (inaugurated in 1883) is open, go to the first floor to discover an
exhibition of porcelain pieces produced within the International porcelain
creation competition of Limoges.
After that, enjoy a shopping break on the Louis Blanc porcelain Boulevard,
the paradise for porcelain shoppers. You can find porcelain items in one of the
numerous workshops and galleries.
Relax in one of the charming cafés in the quarter of the “Cité” (Cathedral
quarter).

Day 2
Visit the very typical old
porcelain kiln “Les Casseaux”
which was built in 1904 and was
running until 1950. The visit
includes an exhibition on the
know-how and the life of the
workers in the 19th century
ceramic industry.
Nearby, stop at the factory shop
of Royal Limoges, the oldest
porcelain factory of Limoges,
Royal Limoges, still active since
1797.

Then, go to the City Centre and have a lunch break in one of the typical
restaurants located in the picturesque Butchers’ street to taste traditional
flavours.
Afterwards, enjoy the beautiful architecture of half-timbered houses of the
Butchers’ street and visit the numerous typical little shops.
Then, visit Limoges underground! The old quarter contains a very dense
network of underground cavities. From vaulted cellars to tunnels, descend and
discover a rich history spanning 2,000 years under the former Abbaye de la
Règle. Please note, this visit requires advance booking with the Tourist Office
(info@limoges-tourisme).
