Points forts : - le sens des atmosphères - le style très personnel du groupe First formed in Mexico City in 1992 under the name "Radio Silence", the band quickly gained a small cult following but was unable to gain support from any label due to their style and unwillingness to compromise, and it disbanded in 1994. Of the original members, Andrés Aullet (Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar and Synthesizers), Ricardo Gómez (Electric and Acoustic Guitar), and Luis Nasser (Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Korg 01W) moved to the USA, and released a demo CD in 1998 entitled Laughter In The Dark which gained the band excellent reviews and a record contract with Moonchild records for worldwide distribution. Upon realizing that there were many other bands operating under the name Radio Silence, the band decided to rename itself as Sonus Umbra (the sound of shadow), invited Jeff Laramee of Kurgan's Bane to join as full-time drummer, and set about recording a new album. The result was “Snapshots From Limbo", a melodic Prog album with dark and gloomy atmospheres. This mexican/ american band play a varied prog mixing modern neoprog with traditional 70's Prog, including a dominating Pink Floyd influence (vocals, melancholic and unquiet moods). The band has a male and a female vocalist, and keyboards play a dominating role. The beautiful guitar picking is most enjoyable and the ethnic influences are much appreciated. Overall the material is very balanced between acoustic and harder edged guitar pieces. With nice sound effects between every piece of music, for much of the CD you have a seamless flow of music. A very personal and new Progressive Rock !
