BIENVENIDA DEL PATRIARCA DE VENECIA A LOS TURISTAS
«O Dio, quale grande bontà / abbiamo compiuta in passato / e scordata, / che
tu ci doni questa meraviglia… / Sì, la gloria dell’ombra / della tua Bellezza ha
camminato / sull’ombra delle acque in questa tua Venezia». Queste parole del poeta
Ezra Pound esprimono con geniale efficacia il contraccolpo di meraviglia che ogni
persona prova visitando la nostra Città.
Custodite il dono di questa bellezza e, come il poeta, lasciatevi da essa
provocare fino in fondo. È il mio augurio a voi che trascorrerete le vostre vacanze
nelle località del nostro litorale, della terra ferma oppure nella città di San Marco.
Poche cose, infatti, fanno sì che il riposo sia veramente tale, cioè capace di ri-creare
fino in fondo la persona, come la bellezza. Essa, come ci insegna la tradizione
cristiana, è sempre lo splendore della verità e parla una lingua che uomini e donne
di ogni razza e nazione riescono a comprendere immediatamente.
La Chiesa di Venezia si offre di accompagnarvi in questo periodo di vacanza.
In tutte le nostre parrocchie, comunità, associazioni, movimenti e gruppi troverete
la possibilità di celebrare i sacramenti, di pregare insieme, di incontrare il popolo
cristiano che vive in queste terre, di ascoltare preziose testimonianze di vita, di
discutere con serenità di qualche questione di attualità scottante.
La Vergine Maria, cui Venezia è consacrata, vi protegga. Permettetemi un ultimo
suggerimento: in questo 2003 che il Papa ha voluto proclamare Anno del Rosario,
perché non dedicare un momento quotidiano delle vostre vacanze a meditare i
misteri della vita di Gesù in compagnia di Sua Madre?
Di cuore vi saluto e vi benedico.

sur l’ombre des eaux dans cette Venise, la tienne». Le génie poétique des mots d’Ezra
Pound rend avec force l’émerveillement qui saisit tous ceux qui visitent notre ville.
Conservez précieusement le don de cette beauté et, comme le poète, laissez
qu’elle vous provoque jusqu’au bout. C’est ce que je vous souhaite, à vous tous
qui passerez vos vacances chez nous, que ce soit sur la côte, à l’intérieur des terres
ou dans la ville de Saint Marc.
Peu de choses en effet font en sorte que le repos soit vraiment digne de ce
nom, et donc capable de vous re-créer entièrement comme personne, peu de choses
si ce n’est la beauté. Comme nous l’enseigne la tradition chrétienne, la beauté
illumine la vérité, et elle parle une langue que les hommes et les femmes de toutes
les races et de toutes les nations peuvent comprendre immédiatement.
L’Église de Venise s’offre de vous accompagner en cette période de vacances.
Dans toutes nos paroisses, communautés, associations, mouvements et groupes,
vous pourrez célébrer les sacrements, prier ensemble, rencontrer le peuple chrétien
qui vit sur ce territoire, écouter de précieux témoignages de vie, discuter
sereinement de questions de brûlante actualité.
Que la Vierge Marie, à laquelle Venise est consacrée, vous protège. Permettez-moi
une dernière suggestion: en cette année 2003 que le Pape a voulu proclamer Année
du Rosaire, pourquoi ne pas dédier un moment chaque jour de vos vacances à la
méditation sur les mystères de la vie de Jésus en compagnie de sa Mère?
Je vous salue et vous bénis de tout cœur.

por ella. Es lo que deseo para vosotros que pasais vuestras vacaciones en las
localidades de nuestro litoral, en tierra firme o en la ciudad de San Marcos. Sabemos
que pocas cosas hacen que el descanso sea tal, es decir, que sea capaz de renovar
completamente a la persona, como lo hace la belleza. Ésta, como la tradición
cristiana nos enseña, siempre es el esplendor de la verdad y se expresa en un idioma
que hombres y mujeres de todas las razas y naciones comprenden inmediatamente.
La Iglesia de Venecia se ofrece a acompañarlos en este período de vacaciones.
En todas nuestras parroquias, comunidades, asociaciones, movimientos y grupos
encontraréis la posibilidad de celebrar los sacramentos, de orar, de encontrar al
pueblo cristiano que vive en estas tierras, de escuchar preciosos testimonios de vida,
o de discutir serenamente algún tema de candente actualidad.
Que la Virgen María, a quien Venecia es consagrada, os proteja. Permitidme
una última sugerencia : en este 2003, que el Papa ha querido proclamar como Año
del Rosario, por qué no dedicar diaramente un momento de vuestras vacaciones
a meditar sobre los misterios de la vida de Jesús en compañia de Su Madre?

“O God, what great kindness / have we done in times past / and forgotten it, /
That thou givest this wonder unto us… / Yea, the glory of the shadow / of thy Beauty
hath walked / Upon the shadow of the waters / In this thy Venice”. These words
by the poet Ezra Pound capture with the effectiveness of genius the feeling of
wonder that strikes anyone visiting our city.
Treasure the gift of this beauty and, like the poet, let it touch your innermost
self. This is my wish for you as you spend your holidays here, whether it is
somewhere along our coastline, on the mainland or in the city of Saint Mark. There
are very few things in life that make a rest truly such, rejuvenating a person
profoundly in the way that beauty does. As the Christian tradition teaches us, beauty
always has the radiance of truth and it speaks a language men and women of every
race and nationality are able to grasp immediately.
The Church of Venice would like to accompany you throughout your holiday
period. In all of our parishes, communities, associations, movements and groups,
you will have the opportunity to celebrate the sacraments, to join others in prayer,
to meet the Christian people who live here, to listen to the stories of their lives
and to take part in discussions on any burning topical issue in a peaceful
atmosphere.
May the Virgin Mary, to whom Venice is consecrated, protect you. May I
suggest one last thing? As the Pope has proclaimed 2003 the Year of the Rosary,
why not devote a moment of each day of your holidays to meditating on the
mysteries of the life of Jesus together with His Mother?

Diese Worte des Poeten Ezra Pound drücken mit genialer Eindringlichkeit die
Rückwirkung des Staunens aus, welche jede Person, die unsere Stadt besucht, empfindet.
Behütet das Geschenk dieser Schönheit und lasst Euch, wie der Dichter, von
ihr bis auf den Grund erregen. Dies ist mein Glückwunsch an Euch, die ihr Eure
Ferien in den Örtlichkeiten unserer Küsten, unseres Festlandes oder in der Stadt
des Heiligen Markus verbringen werdet. Denn wenige Dinge bewirken so wie die
Schönheit , dass die Ruhepause auch eine solche ist, das heisst, fähig, die Person
bis in den Grund wieder zu erschaffen. Wie uns die christliche Tradition lehrt, ist
sie immer der Glanz der Wahrheit, und spricht eine Sprache, die Männer und
Frauen aller Rassen und Nationen augenblicklich verstehen können.
Die Kirche von Venedig bietet sich an, Euch in diesem Zeitraum der Ferien
zu begleiten. In all unseren Pfarreien, Gemeinden, Vereinen, Bewegungen und
Gruppen werdet Ihr die Möglichkeit für die Zelebrierung der Sakramente finden,
sowie Gelegenheiten zum gemeinsamen Beten, zur Begegnung mit dem christlichen Volk aus diesem Land, zum Anhören von wertvollen Zeugnissen des
Lebens, zur ruhigen Diskussion von Fragen brennender Aktualität.
Die Heilige Jungfrau Maria, der die Stadt Venedig geweiht ist, beschütze
Euch. Erlaubt mir noch eine letzte Anregung: warum nicht täglichen einen
Augenblick Eurer Ferien der Meditation der Mysterien des Lebens Jesus in
Begleitung seiner Mutter Maria widmen, in diesem 2003, das vom Papst als das
Jahr des Rosenkranzes ausgerufen worden ist?

wszystkich ludzi kaz· dej rasy i narodowości.

parafii, wspólnocie, stowarzyszeniu, ruchu i grupie znajdziecie moz· liwość korzystania z Sakramentów Świȩtych i uczestniczenia we wspólnej modlitwie.
Spotkacie chrześcijan mieszkaja̧cych na tej ziemi, bȩdziecie mogli wysl⁄ uchać
cennych świadectw ich z· ycia, brać udzial⁄ w dyskusjach na temat aktualnych problemów.
Niech Was ochrania Matka Przenajświȩtsza, patronka Wenecji. Pozwólcie mi
