Als Drehscheibe des reisenden Adels zu

The harmonious natural setting of this part
of Central Switzerland is enriched by sturdy
chalets and small wooden bridges, images
which appear to have been taken straight
from a calendar. A signed trail (Simmentaler Hausweg) invites hikers to discover
these buildings and ornamental structures
some of which date from the 15th century,
particularly those around Diemtigen, a region which is rich with painted facades or
sculpted friezes. The Wimmis castle which
is steeped in history is worth a detour. A
breed of cattle dating back to the Middle
Ages, whose meat is appreciated by gourmets, thrives on these Oberland pastures. It
is celebrated each year by a very colourful
traditional cattle market. Zweisimmen, a
real crossroads gives access to the village
of Lenk, which nestles at the end of the valley at the foot of the imposing Wildstrubel.
