You will learn
The purpose of this course is to introduce and consolidate theoretical, analytical and practical
concepts of financial management. You will better appreciate the role of financial managers,
be able to read financial statements and be better able to execute analyses of value. This
course will improve your judgmental skills. You will realize that while finance includes theory,
estimates of various parameters are often required in practice. There is no escape from
uncertainty and the need for judgment. We will emphasize the financial management of nonfinancial corporations. As we go through the course you will see how a capital market system
leads responsible executives to make the allocations and financing decisions they do. The
centrality and importance of capital market demands on business to create value will be
stressed. In short, the aim in the course is to help you become a be7er execu8ve.
To achieve our purposes we will rely on lectures, online work, class discussion, case analysis,
and some written analysis. Analysis of cases depicting real situations previously faced by
financial managers is a very effective way to prepare for increased corporate responsibility.
The discussion and consideration of issues is a very effective method to promote your
education and improve your capabilities. You will be encouraged to actively participate in
class to foster your learning.
