TIGNISH HEALTH CENTRE WALK-A-THON
The Annual Tignish Health Centre Walk-A-Thon will be held on Saturday, June 27th. Registration
time is 9:45a.m. and the Walk starts at 10:15 a.m. Lots of prizes to give away including two (2)
Cavendish Beach Music Festival Weekend Passes valued at $437, two (2) concert tickets to
Stompin’ Tom, bike, lobsters and many more prizes. Pledge sheets can be picked-up at the Tignish
Health Centre, Tignish Elementary, St. Louis Elementary and École Pierre-Chiasson, Shirley’s Café
and M.J.’s Bakery. There will also be a Yard Sale, Bargain Basement will be open, face painting,
bake sale, etc. which will be held in the parking lot of the Health Centre as part of the Tignish Irish
Moss Festival along with our Walk-A-Thon.
5TH ANNUAL BENNIE BERNARD MEMORIAL 6KM RUN/WALK
The 5th Annual Bennie Bernard Memorial 6km Run/Walk including 3km Run for kids 10 and under
at Immaculate Conception Parish, Palmer Road. This event is organized by Project Love and will be
held rain or shine on Sunday, June 28th at 1:30 p.m. Starts and finishes in the Church parking lot.
Registration is $5.00 per person with all proceeds going towards the purchase of a small tractor for
the church. No bikes or roller blades allowed. Strollers and wagons for kids are OK! Registration
on the day of the Run. Waiver forms are to be signed by all participants. Those under 18 years must
have a parent or guardian sign a form for them. Light refreshments, top runner awards and door
prizes following the event. Safety is a top priority of the organizers. Come give your support and

ST. FELIX GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
We will be keeping our early season rates to include June 21st, Father’s Day. Come and
enjoy a game of golf with your dad.
Due to the Tignish Irish Moss Festival & Parade, we will be having our 10th Anniversary
Celebrations on Sunday, July 5th instead of June 28th as we do not want to interfere will the
Irish Moss Festivities. We will be offering $10.00 green fees to everyone on that day, along
with $10.00 rate for golf carts and free pull carts. Members have a choice of a free beverage.
Our caps will be reduced to $10.00 plus GST for this day only. Come celebrate with us!
The GBS Program will begin the first week of July. You can pre-register your child (ages 6 to
14). More information to follow.
Groups, organizations or businesses planning on having a golf tournament should call to book
a date as soon as possible.
Coming soon.... a couple of fun days for ladies of any age who want to experience what golf
is all about at no charge and we will provide you with clubs, pull carts, etc. If you are
interested, please call and let us know. It will be a just-for-fun day with other ladies and a
social gathering after.

TIGNISH IRISH FOLK FESTIVAL 2009
This year’s Tignish Irish Folk Festival will take place from Thursday, July 30th to Sunday, August
2nd. Mark the dates on your calendar for a weekend of fun, music and a great time to get together
with family and friends! Details coming soon!
ST. LOUIS COMMUNITY CENTRE NEWS
Thursday, June 18th: Jamming Party at 8:00 p.m. Bring your instruments and join in, or just come
to listen. Everyone welcome. Admission $3.00. 50/50 and light lunch served.
Reserve June 19th to 21st for the St. Louis Bluegrass & Oldtime Campout. $25.00 for a weekend
pass which includes rough camping. Also daily passes available. One-third (a) of the proceeds after
expenses goes to the Miminegash Fire Department.

INTERESTED IN JUDO OR WRESTLING?
New Judo/Wrestling Club open in Tignish (in Access PEI building, across from Employment Resource
Office). All men, women, boys and girls ages 6 to adult welcome. Wrestling Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m;
Judo Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Two (2) week free trial for all new members. We are also looking
for volunteers to help with coaching wrestling. If any group (aerobics, yoga, etc.) is looking to rent
space, we have a fully matted 24 X 32 room. Call Kenneth at 882-3204 or 853-5310.
WHAT IS HAPPENING AT KIDS WEST IN JUNE

Annual General Meeting: Wednesday, June 17th at 6:00 p.m. at our Center in Alberton. There
will be a light snack as well as activities for the children. All are welcome to attend.

Walk & Talk: Please join us for a walk on the trail every Wednesday from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. for the
month of June. Parents and children 6 years and under are welcome. Snack will be provided.

Playgroup Theme for June 16th to 19th: “Trail Walk & Scavenger Hunt”. Playgroup starts at 10:00
a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Baby Connections Group: Tuesday, June 16th at 1:30 p.m.: “Stroller Walk” (bring your own
stroller).

SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM - ONE YEAR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
This Program prepares graduates to enter the field of business, providing the skills in training for advancement
into the management of small businesses or owning and managing their own small business. The course
begins September 9th at the Dalton Centre in Tignish. Program graduates will also be eligible to apply to the

Take Off Pounds Sensibly is a non-profit organization to help you lose weight. Whether you have 10 pounds
or 100 pounds to lose, come learn how to lose weight sensibly and have fun doing it! We meet every
Tuesday, beginning with weigh-in from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m. at the Tignish
Medical Centre. Please enter through the back entrance. Cost is $30.00 for the year and $2.00 every week.

We would like to thank all the people, organizations and businesses who made the supper/auction possible
and also a big thank you to all who came out to support this good cause. A sincere thank you!! We greatly
appreciate your support and contribution. All the profits from this evening will contribute towards the
playground fund for le Centre acadien de Prince-Ouest which will be in place by September 2009. Also, it will
be open to the public after school hours.

The family of the late Leo Martin would like to express their thanks and appreciation to all our family and
friends for their caring and support during our time of loss. To all who brought food, flowers, messages or
sympathy, for all your prayers during this difficult time, for masses and memorial donations in our loved one’s
memory... thank you! Thank you also to nurses and staff of Western Hospital, especially to Dr. Hanson.
Thanks to the staff of Rooney’s Funeral Home for all their help. Thank you to all who attended the wake and
funeral and all who took part in the service especially to Celebrant Father Willick and Co-Celebrant Father
Pendergast. Many thanks to the eucharistic ministers, altar servers, readers, choir and organist Diane and
special thanks to Anita and Edith for their special rendition of “The God on the Mountain”, for all the active and
honorary pallbearers and to those who opened and closed the grave. Thank you so much also to Bonnie and
Kenneth for opening their home to all family and friends after the service. It was very much appreciated. If
we have forgotten anyone, please accept this as a sincere “thank you”. Your love and generosity will remain
in our hearts forever. We will always remember Leo’s great love of music and his sharing of this wonderful
gift with his family and friends.
