INDUSTRIELLE !
This is already the 10th time the world’s prime movers in the
aerospace arena—manufacturers, engine suppliers, subcontractors
and service providers—have made their way to Midi-Pyrenees
for Aeromart Toulouse, now a fixture in the industry calendar. As
at previous editions, all of the global international players are
in attendance, making our business convention the biggest B2B
event of its kind. Alongside the sector’s leading lights—Airbus,
Alenia Aermacchi, ATR, Avic, Boeing, Bombardier, the French
space agency CNES, Dassault Aviation, Embraer, Honeywell,
Rolls Royce, Sabca, Safran, Sukhoi, Thales and UAC—no fewer
than 1,300 companies from 45 countries have come together
for pre-scheduled meetings to talk, find information, take part in
workshops and attend conferences.
One thing that all aviation contractors agree
on is that “while we have a responsibility
toward our suppliers, we are also exacting,”
says Stéphane Campion, in charge of seriesproduction programmes at Aerolia. “Their
operational performance needs to be good
before they can become our partners, and we
also welcome consolidation initiatives.”
Aerolia, which expects revenues on the order
of €1 billion in 2014, outsources 75% of its
activities. The aerostructures firm’s ambitious
aim is to expand its supply chain across
the globe. “We’ve got partners to join us in
Tunisia, where we already have a facility,
and we’re currently in discussion with our
top suppliers to accompany us in Casablanca,
Morocco,” announces Stéphane Campion.
Aerolia has 3,500 employees around the world.
The company is spearheading a number of
industry improvement programmes, such as the
Industrial Performance operation led by GIFAS,
the French aerospace industries association.
A proven concept
If proof of the event’s growing international appeal were needed,
two new countries, South Korea and Vietnam, are present this
year for the first time. With strong growth in world air traffic and
long-term development prospects looking good across the sector,
Aeromart’s original concept combining business and long-term
vision appears increasingly to be a winner.

For ATR, ramp-up of production calls for close
coordination of suppliers. “ATR currently has
1,100 employees and as many people working
at subcontractors in Midi-Pyrenees alone,”
says the aircraft manufacturer. “Through
collaborative platforms like Air Supply, buyers
and suppliers can coordinate in optimal fashion,
while ensuring better visibility across the
supply chain for more efficient delivery of parts
and equipment.” At Airbus, meanwhile, the 5th
SME supplier forum on 8 September provided
the opportunity to review programmes. This
year’s forum innovated by inviting ATR to talk
about its vision of its own programme. “We
emphasized our industrial challenges and the
need to maintain the cadence for the ramp-up
of the A350XWB and A320NEO, and we assured
the supply chain of our support and engagement
through tools like Aerofund for funding and
operations with the Industrial Performance
project,” affirms Didier Katzenmayer, Head of
Industrial Affairs at Airbus Operations SAS.

Un événement
Since proceedings got underway on Tuesday, participants
have found all of the accustomed ingredients that have made
Aeromart Toulouse such a success, with the usual face-to-face
business meetings and the Aeromart Summit on innovation and
procurement and supply chain policies, or the Green Village
devoted to advances in green technologies. But this anniversary
edition has also lined up some great new features, like the
Advanced Manufacturing Village and the pavilion devoted to
firms employing personnel with disabilities. We hope you enjoy
this last day networking with your customers and suppliers,
and we hope to see you here again in 2016 for an even more
exceptional event to mark its 20th anniversary.

A KEY RENDEZVOUS FOR AEROSPACE
AND THE MIDI-PYRENEES REGION
UN RENDEZ-VOUS INCONTOURNABLE
POUR L’AÉRONAUTIQUE ET MIDI-PYRÉNÉES
This year, Toulouse, the global
civil aviation capital, is once
again playing host for three
days to the prime global movers
in the aerospace sector. A few
figures suffice to gauge the
impact of this event since its
inception in 1996. With more
than 2,500 participants—80% of
them from abroad—and some
15,000 face-to-face business
meetings between buyers and
sellers, Aeromart Toulouse
is today the world’s premier
B2B event for the aerospace
industry.
For the 1,300 or so firms
present, it is a unique occasion
to talk, network, look ahead
and envision future market
constraints and opportunities, at
a time when production capacity
must keep pace with growth in
air traffic and our companies
Bernard Plano
Président de Midi-Pyrénées Expansion
are positioning themselves to
lead efforts to modernize the
sector. Aeromart also turns
the spotlight on the unique
ecosystem that has emerged in
our region, which sustains more
than 130,000 jobs in Southwest
France. As such, it showcases
the excellence of the region’s

companies, provides a forum
for discussing future challenges
facing the sector and boosts the
region’s appeal—which is exactly
why Midi-Pyrenees Expansion
and the Toulouse Chamber of
Commerce and Industry have
been co-organizing this major
event for nearly 20 years.

AMI METALS OPENS NEW FACILITY
CLOSE TO FIGEAC AERO
AMI METALS S’IMPLANTE CHEZ FIGEAC AERO
The main new feature at this year’s Aeromart is the Advanced
Manufacturing Village, which explores the eminently strategic
issue of innovative production processes and organizational
models. For the Toulouse Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
“the factory of the future is already on the rails as SMEs
integrate the digital technologies that will make it a reality.”
The companies exhibiting here have developed specific knowhow paving the way for the factory of the future, which will
be digital, connected, agile, human-centric and eco-friendly.
Among them is the Fives Group, an expert on these matters with
a two-hundred-year legacy that has set up an observatory to
think outside the box about this new industrial revolution. As
a testament to the quality of its work, Fives has been selected
by the French Ministry of the Economy to co-lead the national
“factory of the future” industrial recovery plan, for which the
roadmap was unveiled last spring.
printemps dernier.
“The long-term contract we signed with Figeac Aero earlier this year is very important to us”, says
Will Clare, Senior Director Business Development for AMI Metals. This American company, that provides
metallic plate, sheet, bar, forgings and extruded profiles to the global aerospace industry, will move into
a brand new facility in Figeac in January 2015. “Figeac Aero has chosen to outsource to AMI Metals the
management of its raw materials: demand planning, purchasing, storage, first stage processing and JIT
delivery”, he explained. Around 30 employees will be based in Figeac. “Moreover, this site will be AMI’s
base to support its other customers in France and also in other countries such as Spain.” The AMI Metals’
facility in Figeac has been accompanied by Midi-Pyrénées Expansion’s services.

encore l’appel à projets collaboratifs AEROSAT
dans les domaines de l’aéronautique, de
l’espace et des systèmes embarqués.
With 2,500 participants from 45 countries, this 10th Aeromart business convention has firmly established
its reputation and confirmed the leadership of our region and industry. Midi-Pyrenees is the main European
aerospace hub, supporting 72,000 direct jobs and a base of over 850 businesses, subcontractors and
suppliers. It is the logical location for envisioning tomorrow’s aircraft and production processes. Aeromart
has underlined the aerospace sector’s rude health, the commercial successes of Airbus, the achievements
of Aerospace Valley and the global fleet’s growth prospects. But the sector faces challenges with rising
production rates and new manufacturers entering the market. The regional council is backing initiatives to
boost competitiveness, notably the Montaudran Aerospace campus, the St-Exupéry technology research
institute and the AEROSAT call for projects in aerospace and embedded systems.
MANAGEMENT
NEW TEAM TAKES
CHARGE AT ATR
NOUVELLE GOUVERNANCE POUR ATR
The world’s number one regional aircraft
manufacturer came to this year’s Aeromart with
a new team at the controls: Patrick de Castelbajac
was appointed CEO in June and Laurence Rigolini
Corporate Secretary with responsibility for
institutional relations, communications, general
services and environment in October. ATR
has sustained strong growth in recent years,
particularly in the Asia-Pacific market, where it
announced in November an order from Lion Air
for 100 aircraft, the largest order ATR has ever
booked. The Toulouse-based manufacturer, present
in the show’s Green Aviation and Advanced
Manufacturing villages, appreciates Aeromart as
an opportunity to see all of its suppliers and meet
new partners in one place.

FIGEAC AERO EXPECTING 25% GROWTH
25 % DE CROISSANCE POUR FIGEAC AERO
The small-and-large-parts supplier
based in the Lot department of
Southwest France just keeps on growing.
After posting consolidated revenues of
€165 million for the year ended March
2014, the 1,600-strong firm—with 960
employees in Midi-Pyrenees—is aiming
for €205 million by next March, with
projected growth of 20-25%. “The
secret of our growth? The ramp-up of
aircraft programmes and the factory
we acquired in Wichita (U.S.A.) in May,”
explains communications officer Nicolas
Geneteaud. This U.S. facility today
employs 60 people,
20 more than when Figeac Aero
bought it. The firm’s international
expansion strategy also encompasses a
plant in Mexico, for which it is currently
prospecting. The idea is to have a
centre of excellence on the American
continent in the United States and a
production unit in a low-cost zone

like Mexico to sharpen its competitive
edge, mirroring the set-up in Europe
where headquarters in Figeac acquired
a production unit in Tunisia in 2011.
2014 was also an excellent year for
Figeac Aero’s order book, as this
summer it won a $60-million contract
to supply two large fuselage floor
structures for the A350. But the
contract of the century is without
doubt the one it secured from Snecma
in October, worth $500 million over
ten years, to supply high-precision
parts for the manufacturer’s new
LEAP engines. “These high-tech parts
with a two-metre span offer huge
capacity,” enthuses Nicolas Geneteaud.
“The market for aerospace suppliers is
showing strong growth as manufacturers
outsource more and more work,” he
concludes. “And this trend is being
fuelled by emerging markets and
increased fleet investments by airlines.”

As for previous editions of Aeromart, the
business convention was preceded on
Tuesday by a one-day summit providing
an opportunity for thought and discussion
about key challenges and the organization
of the aerospace supply chain. The
morning session, opened by Aerospace
Valley chair Agnès Paillard, focused on
the challenges the aerospace sector
will face in the years ahead, including
electric aircraft and, to pave the way for
the factory of the future, innovations
in robotics and additive manufacturing.
“Numerous initiatives have been launched
at regional, national and European levels,”
said Agnès Paillard by way of introduction.
She also recalled that the Aerospace Valley
global cluster is supporting development
of SMEs’ core business as well as their
diversification into sectors outside
aerospace, like healthcare, energy and
intelligent transport. Then, speaking in
her capacity as Vice-President of R&D
Projects Management and Institutional
Relationships at Airbus, she talked
about the E-Fan all-electric aircraft that
completed its first flight in April.
During the afternoon session, several big
manufacturers—Airbus, Safran, Turkish
Aerospace Industries, ATR, Latécoère
and Alenia Aermacchi—presented their
procurement and supply chain policies.

Ils

PYRENIA INDUSTRY CAMPUS
FOCUSES ON AVIATION
FRANCE
Eric Roubinet - Sales manager - Groupe Aemi, Mérignac (Gironde)
“We’re always on the look-out for new customers.”
PYRENIA : UN CAMPUS INDUSTRIEL À VOCATION AÉRONAUTIQUE
Once again this year, the Green Aviation Village,
sponsored by Airbus and ATR, is hosting firms
that are mobilizing their efforts to reduce the
environmental footprint of aviation. As air traffic
continues to grow, green technologies are
obviously becoming increasingly
important and the firms
that have chosen to locate their facilities at
the Pyrenia regional business park in Tarbes
are taking up the challenge. This 190-hectare
aerospace industry campus, adjoining TarbesLourdes-Pyrénées airport (400,000 passengers a
year), has a 3,000-metre runway able to take all
types of aircraft up to the A380. “Environmental
excellence is the backbone of our project,” says
Pascal Le Houeller, the business park’s director,
“as shown by the success of aircraft strip-down
activities here, which enable 90% of an aircraft’s
weight to be recycled,” he adds. “To achieve that,
we use an original and environmentally friendly
process,” insists Philippe Fournadet, Chairman &
CEO of Tarmac Aerosave, the European leader in
aircraft storage, maintenance and recycling.
The team at the Pyrenia business park is now
looking to move to the next level. “There’s room
here for new partners on the campus,” asserts
Pascal Le Houeller. “We want manufacturers
engaged in developing greener aviation
technologies to benefit from the momentum
we’ve created.”
