She describes her undertaken work as verification of the veracity of the perceptions that we have of the world. "Chair" (Flesh) is the title of her exhibition. The artist plays on the meaning of the word and immediately proposes from the outset a multiplication of points of view. In the largest series of works presented, the colour often returns to flesh, to the colour of foundation, as a metaphor of the human body. She is not however explicit or demonstrative. The artist displays, in the CRAC's large room, a series of recent paintings, monochromes of various formats set out in a 22m line, a collection of paintings on the side walls and creates a large in-situ wallpainting entitled "Scotch". “In a society where the visual system is constructed from an image, whether this be analog or digital, painting is no longer a technique for reproduction of the visible, but a practice that questions the different modes of visibility of the real. Although the view of history is in perpetual movement, I believe that the investigations of painters are acquired. The history of painting is so old that it has become an available place, a space for stratified reflections, at once specific and generic. I take it for what it is, a convention, a surface. For this exhibition, I show a new collection of paintings that commits to a more concrete link to the work, as the subject of this collection is the practice of painting in itself. The question of representation is posed with a “what to paint?”, here resolved by working with the tools themselves. Older paintings will also be exhibited, the exhibition being orchestrated by the evocation of the body through the means of colour, here "flesh" colour, in all its nuances going from flesh pink to foundation beige. Some paintings will be included as stark colour contrasts with this collection and will play on the connections of the complementarity of colours.” Sylvie Fanchon 2 Tableau_scotch, 40x60 cm, 2014 © Sylvie Fanchon.
