Master in East Asian Studies
Master in East Asian Studies Université Paris Diderot The Master’s program delivered by the Department of East Asian Studies (Langues et Civilisations de l’Asie Orientale, LCAO) at Université Paris Diderot offers an outstanding training in the language, history and culture of East Asian societies. It is unparalleled in France and combines the very best of research related to Asia in Europe. In the old tradition of La Sorbonne, the team of teachers and researchers (83 professors and associate professors) belongs to several research centers, all of them within a walking distance from one another. This situation is unique not only in Europe but in the world. Such a concentration of faculty offers the best stimulating intellectual environment that a master student can find to start a career in humanities and social sciences. Organization of studies: This Master’s program is a degree accredited in collaboration with INALCO (Institut National des Langues orientales, commonly known as « Langues O »), one of the oldest Institute in Europe for the teaching of Asian languages. The students can choose between four areas of studies — China/Taiwan, Japan, Korea or Vietnam — and three methodological curricula: Arts and Literature; History and Social Sciences; Linguistics. With a full range of specialties (classic and modern literature, linguistics, history, sociology, anthropology, economics, geography, politics, philosophy, intellectual history, religious studies), the Master offers an excellent training for career paths in research, teaching, diplomacy or business administration and management with East Asian countries. Scheme of the curriculum: The Master is a two year program. Each student must obtain a total of 120 ECTS (European Credits Transfer System). There are some variations depending of each specialty (Chinese, Korean, Japanese or Vietnamese Studies). The teaching is given mostly in French as well as, sometimes, in English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese. 
