C entral A frican R epu blic . — An epidemic of miluenza-like
illness, associated with virus A, has affected 20% of the population
of Bangui; it started in December 1974 and reached its peak during
the first week of January 1975.
R épublique C entrafricaine . — Une épidémie d ’affections
d ’allure grippale, associée au virus A , a intéressé 20% de la popu­
lation de Bangui; elle a commencé en décembre 1974 et a atteint
son sommet pendant la première semaine de janvier 1975.

N orw ay , S w eden . — A slight increase in the number of
D anemark , Répu bliq u e fédérale d ’A llemagne , F inlande ,
P ays -Bas, N orvège , S uède . — On a signalé une petite augmentation
sporadic influenza cases associated with virus A has been reported
from Denmark (11 January), Finland (10 January: also small
localized outbreaks), Federal Republic of Germany (4 to 17 January:
localized outbreaks in Lower Saxony), Netherlands (15 January),
Norway (11 January) and Sweden (29 December: predominantly
Halsingborg and Malmo areas); in none of these countries has
the disease reached epidemic proportions.

F rance , H ungary , S pa in . — A decline in influenza epidemics
associated with virus A has been reported in certain regions of the
following countries: France (10 January: slight regression in Pans
and certain regions in the northern half of the country, in spite of
outbreaks in institutions in Amiens, Rouen and Brest; 13 January:
end of the epidemics in Lyons and St. Etienne; second half of
December: peak in Nice and Toulouse), Hungary (17 January:
decrease in Budapest and the northern regions but increase in the
southern regions), Spain (7 January: peak in Barcelona where
9% of the general population had been affected; 10 January:
epidemic ended in Valladolid). A few cases associated with virus
B have been reported in the northern half of France.

grippe associée au virus A a été signalé dans certaines régions des
pays suivants: France (10 janvier: légère régression à Paris et dans
certaines régions de la moitié nord du pays, malgré des poussées
dans des collectivités à Amiens, Rouen et Brest; 13 janvier: fin
de l’épidémie à Lyon et à St Etienne; seconde moitié de décembre:
sommet à Nice et à Toulouse), Hongrie (17 janvier: diminution à
Budapest et dans les régions du nord, mais augmentation dans les
régions du sud), Espagne (7 janvier: sommet à Barcelone oh 9%
de la population avaient été atteints; 10 janvier: épidémie terminée
à Valladolid). Quelques cas associés au virus B ont été signalés

1975). —1 Whereas from early December to 4 January widespread
influenza activity was mostly centred in the South Atlantic and
East South Central regions, the disease has now spread within
the north-eastern and raid-western parts o f the country. Fur­
thermore, pneumonia and influenza deaths show that influenza
activity is probably increasing in the West North Central, East
North Central, West South Central, Mountain and Pacific divisions.
In all areas involved, evidence of infection with virus A was found.

4 janvier l'activité grippale fut surtout centrée sur les régions du
sud Atlantique et du Centre sud-est, l’affection s’est maintenant

En outre, la mortalité par broncho-pneumonie et grippe montre
que l’activité grippale est probablement en voie d ’augmentation
dans les divisions du Centre Nord Ouest, du Centre Nord Est,
du Centre Sud Ouest, des Montagnes et du Pacifique. Dans toutes
les régions intéressées, on a mis en évidence l’infection à virus A.

confirmed. No part of France should be considered infected
with respect to this imported case.
