 IPPC is an international plant health

to protect cultivated and wild plants by
preventing the introduction and spread of
pests.
 There are currently 181 signatories to the
IPPC.
 IPPC is governed by the Commission on
Phystanitary Measures (CPM) of the UN’s
Food and Agriculture Organization.

 Building off NAPPO’s regional standard
for the movement of seeds there is now a
draft ISPM for seed.
 The international standard provides
guidance to signatories NPPO’s on the
criteria for harmonizing import, export and
re-export requirements.
 The aim of the ISPM is to facilitate the
international movement of seed.
