Context:
Georges Fadel of Clemson University (USA) has proposed a “Value shell concept” for
representing the effort to improve the value of a given design from three contributive components of the
value for the client: “Pleasure”, “Protection” and “Inverse Cost” (see [1]). This model should allow
comparing two technologies or two innovative concepts in terms of development efforts.
Yannou et al (see [2]) have also proposed a UIPC model, standing for Utility-Innovation-ProfitabilityConcept, to measure the value potential all along the innovation process and better monitor the dynamics
of value creation. An extension has also recently been made during the ECP internship of Anand Parikh
(see [3]) to implement an UIPC indicator in a DreD (Design Rational Editor) environment (see [4]).
Objectives and expected scientific deliverables:
- Develop/extend the mathematics underlying this “Value shell concept”
- Extend also the notions of “effort” and “difficulty” of the “Value Shell concept
- How to get data for building this value shell parabolic shape? We could think of using the lottery algorithm
of the Expected-Utility-Value-Theory (EUVT)
- Better develop scenarios for using this tool in different contexts (product comparisons using different
architectures and technologies, improving technologies, etc)
- Apply quantitatively to an example of choosing between two technologies or two innovative concepts.
Define the context, get the date and represent results graphically (on Matlab for instance)
- Study if this model can be compared to UIPC’s which is a probabilistic way of expressing value.
Prerequisites : none
Report:
A paper for a refereed journal or an international conference will be produced to synthesize the results.
