MAGREZ FOMBRAUGE SAINT ÉMILION GRAND CRU This vineyard is located on the Niord archaeological site dating back to the Vth century B.C, where a remarkably well-preserved skeleton over 2,500 years old was found. This skeleton will be exhibited in Château Fombrauge, a nearby estate also belonging to Bernard Magrez. WINE ESTATE OWNER Location: Saint-Etienne de Lisse, next to Saint-Émilion. Area under vine: 2.4 hectares. Wine grape variety: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Age of vines: 30 years. Vine density: 6,500 vines per hectare. Terroir: Vines are planted partly on a slopes made up of Fronsac molasses and fine compact rendosol. The other part consists of fine calcisol on deep layer of asteriated limestone. Viticulture: Traditional Bordeaux pruning with two canes. Total green cover. Leaf thinning on both sides. Green harvesting. Winemaking: The grapes from each separate plot are hand-picked into small crates, manually destemmed, and put into small, wooden vats by gravity flow. Manual punching down of the cap. The wine is run off using gravity flow into new French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and 18-20 months ageing. Yield: 15 to 20 hectolitres per hectare.
