MCL_CG_HCI_007 Graphical interface design for augmented reality applications on mobile devices
Summary of the internship
As mobile devices (phones, tablets,…) integrate more and more powerful graphical capabilities, there is an
growing demand for interactive 3D mixed-reality applications on those devices. Ergonomic graphical interfaces
are hence required for efficient user navigation and interactivity on the 3D content. The internship will study,
design and implement such graphical interfaces for advanced demonstrators.
Detailed description
Context
As mobile devices (phones, tablets,…) integrate more and more powerful graphical capabilities, there is an
growing demand for interactive 3D mixed-reality applications on those devices. These applications require
efficient graphical interfaces which have to be ergonomic and fully-integrated with the 3D content to allow
real-time user interaction.
Objective
The trainee will contribute to fully-integrated augmented-reality demonstrators on mobile devices such as
Android tablets. For this purpose, he will study, design and implement ergonomic graphical interfaces allowing
the users to interact in real-time with mixed-reality contents.
Task description
In collaboration with the Synthetic & Augmented Reality team members, the trainee will firstly define all the
requirements of the ergonomic graphical interfaces. He will then design the graphical components under
Photoshop and will prototype a set of interfaces using our X3D-based in-house mixed-reality software platform.
Finally, the trainee will contribute to the realization of fully-integrated augmented-reality demonstrators on
mobile devices such as Android tablets.

Working environment





Internship will take place at Technicolor’s research center located in Rennes (France)
Trainee will work in an R&D environment under the supervision of one researcher (PhD)
Equipments: PC running Linux and Windows Operating Systems, Android Nexus 10 tablets
Graphical tools: Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, 3DsMax, Maya
Rendering software: in-house real-time rendering platform
