PRESS RELEASE
Children explore the European Union with Museo Pambata
Museo Pambata (MP) and the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines together
with cultural institutions and embassies from the European Union member states took children on a
virtual trip to the European Union last May 20 to 23.
“Lakbayin Natin ang EU” celebrated its 6 year by teaching kids all about the EU member
countries through storytelling sessions, film viewing, art workshops, games, and other fun activities.
An exhibit which featured an interactive map, game board, picture storybooks, and toys also helped
the children understand the European member states' colorful culture. A photo slideshow of past
Lakbayin Natin ang EU activities flashed on a TV screen to offer visitors a look back into the history
of the six-year cultural enrichment program.
The journey to EU began with a short program, which was attended by representatives from
the participating cultural institutions and EU-member states' embassies. Child advocates from MP's
Children's Advocacy Program took the stage with a percussion-driven musical performance, led by
young musician Jazz Dufourt. The exhibit was then officially opened to the public.
This year's participating EU member countries were Austria, Czech Republic, France,
Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy. The participating cultural institutions were the
Alliance Francaise de Manille (France), the Philippine Italian Association (Italy), British Council
(UK) and the Goethe Institut – Manila (Germany).

For four days, invited children from welfare centers participated in a line-up of activities
focusing on children's rights. They listened to storytelling sessions, learned how to speak and sing
songs in German, Italian, French, Spanish, Austrian and French, joined craft workshops, and even
sampled food like Spanish paella, Italian pizza and German Black Forest cake.
Children's centers who took part in this event were Project Pearls Foundation, SPECS
Foundation, Sun for All Children, Canossa Foundation, Kanlungan sa ERMA Ministry, Makabata
School Foundation and HSBC Readiscovery Center.
The "Lakbayin Natin ang EU" is part of the Viva Europa 2014 cultural festival which aims to
celebrate the founding of the European Union and showcase the best of European Union's arts,
music, dance, film, languages and poetry. For activity schedule and more info, please visit
