La visite de la directrice générale de l’AFD au Kenya
The CEO of AFD tours Kenya
La directrice générale de l’AFD, Mme Anne Paugam, a visité
durant son séjour au Kenya le site géothermique d’Olkaria.
L’AFD contribue, à hauteur de 150 millions d’Euros, à la
construction de la centrale d’Olkaria IV, d’une puissance de
140 MW, dont la première unité de 70 MW sera mise en
service en juin 2014.
Mme Paugam a été très impressionnée par l’ampleur des
investissements réalisés et par la façon dont KenGen fait
fonctionner les centrales existantes et pilote la construction
de cette nouvelle centrale. Au cours de sa visite, elle a pu
longuement échanger avec le directeur général de KenGen, M.
Albert Mugo, sur l’intérêt de la
géothermie pour le Kenya.
En effet, le Kenya a fait de l’énergie
une priorité de sa stratégie «
Vision 2030 », pour répondre à la
croissance économique du pays
et augmenter le taux d’accès de la
population à l’électricité. Le pays
mise sur le développement de la
géothermie (potentiel estimé à 7 000
MW) pour répondre à la demande
croissante d’électricité et permettre
un
développement
économique
soutenable. Bien qu’elle nécessite des
investissements lourds, la géothermie est compétitive par rapport
aux autres énergies renouvelables ou fossiles et produit 24h/24.
Sobre en émissions de carbone, elle permet, au pays qui en sont
dotés, de lutter contre le changement climatique.
Ce projet vient par ailleurs consolider l’appui de l’AFD au
développement de la géothermie au Kenya à travers :
-
un prêt de 20 millons d’Euros à KenGen pour développer
ses capacités de production de 35 MW par la construction de
la troisième unité de production géothermique de la centrale
Olkaria II ;
-
un prêt souverain de 56 millions d’Euros pour le
soutien à la GDC à travers l’achat de machines de forage pour
l’exploration du site de Menengai.
Lancement du Projet de Biodiversité au Nord du Kenya
Northern Kenya Biodiversity Project Launch
The Chief Executive Officer of the French Development Agency
(AFD), Mrs Anne Paugam, visited during her stay in Kenya the
geothermal site of Olkaria. AFD contributes, up to 150 M Euros,
to the construction of the Olkaria IV 140 MW power plant of
which the first unit of 70 MW will be commissioned in June
2014.
Mrs Paugam was very impressed by the dimension of the achieved
investments and by the way KenGen operates the existing power
plants at Olkaria, as well as their professionalism in carrying out
the construction of the new power plant. During her visit, she
was able to discuss with the Managing
Director of KenGen, Mr. Albert Mugo,
on the benefits of geothermal power
for Kenya.
Indeed, Kenya made energy a priority
of her strategy “Vision 2030”, to answer
the need of economic growth of the
country and increase the access rate
of the population to electricity. The
country is stressing on the development
of geothermal power (potential
estimated at 7000 MW) to answer to
the increasing demand of electricity and
allow a sustainable economic development. Although it requires
heavy investments, geothermal power is competitive compared
to other renewable and fossil energies and produces 24 hours a
day. Sober in carbon emissions, it allows the countries which are
endowed with it, to fight against climate change.
Besides, this project strengthens AFD’s support in the
development of geothermal power in Kenya through:
-
A loan of 20 M Euros to KenGen to develop its
production capacities by 35 MW with the construction of the
third geothermal production unit of the Olkaria II power plant;
-
A sovereign loan of 56 M Euros for the support to GDC
through the purchase of drilling rigs for the exploration of the
Menengai site.

le 19 mai 2014 à l’occasion d’une cérémonie colorée dans les
locaux de Kenya Wildlife Service Northern Kenya Conservation
Area. La délégation AFD était conduite par Mme Anne Paugam,
DG du Groupe AFD, accompagnée par l’Ambassadeur Rémi
Maréchaux. La délégation kényane était conduite par M. Gideon
Gathara, représentant le Ministre de
l’Environnement, accompagné par
les directeurs de KWS et de KFS.
Les représentants de Marsabit sont
venus en grand nombre, menés par
le gouverneur du comté S.E. Amb.
Ukur Yatani. Étaient aussi présents
le directeur général de Northern
Rangelands Trust, M. Mike Harrison
ainsi que les représentants des trois
aires communautaires de Songa, Shurr
et Jaldesa établies avec l’aide de NRT
dans le cadre du projet.
Ce projet de cinq ans est financé par l’AFD et le Fonds
Français pour l’Environnement Mondiale (FFEM) pour un
total de 9,5 millions d’Euros et est mis en œuvre par KWS et
Northern Rangelands Trust. Son objectif est de soutenir, avec la
participation des communautés locales, la gestion durable des
ressources naturelles, particulièrement l’eau, le pâturage et la
production d’énergie, en se concentrant sur la réserve forestière
de Marsabit et ses interactions écologiques et économiques.
The Northern Kenya Biodiversity Project (Marsabit) was
launched in a colourful ceremony conducted at the Kenya
Wildlife Service Northern Kenya Conservation Area Office
on 19th May 2014. The AFD delegation was led by Mrs Anne
Paugam, AFD Group CEO, accompanied by Ambassador
Rémi Maréchaux. The Kenyan delegation was led by Mr
Gideon Gathara, representing the
Cabinet Secretary, accompanied
by directors of KWS and KFS.
The Marsabit delegation turned out in
great numbers led by their governor,
H.E. Amb. Ukur Yatani. Also present
was the Executive Director, Northern
Rangelands Trust, Mr. Mike Harrison
and so were the representatives of
the three conservancies of Songa,
Shurr and Jaldesa established by the
Northern Rangelands Trust as part of
the project. The five year project is financed by AFD and the
French Environment Global Facility (FFEM) for a total of 9.5
million Euros and implemented by the Kenya Wildlife Service
and the Northern Rangelands Trust. its goal is to support
sustainable management of natural resources, especially water,
pasture and energy provision focussing on Marsabit forest
reserve and its ecological and economic connections, with the
participation of local communities.

AFD’s Chief Executive Officer, Anne Paugam, visited Kibra, one
of the most vast shanty towns of Nairobi to inaugurate the public
shower block of Makina and the kiosk of Makongeni.
The water supply project in the capital financed by AFD includes
a specific component targeting the informal areas of the capital.
A first phase has permitted the construction of twenty Biocentres (block of showers and public toilets with sceptic tank) in
Kibra, Korogocho and Mukuru.
According to an environmental
study led by IFRA (French Institute
of Research in Africa), before the
project, 40% of the inhabitants living
near Bio-centres had no access to
decent facilities. They would resort
for the main part either to plastic bags
“flying toilets”, or to open air toilets.
These centres are considered cleaner
than the nearby private facilities and
appreciated for their long opening
hours for a similar cost.
The public showers of Makina and the kiosks of Makongeni
are the first ones to be delivered to Nairobi Water in the second
phase, which includes fifteen blocks of showers and fifteen
kiosks. The will be managed by the resident associations. Every
center benefits on average 300 people.
Eventually, approximately 15,000 inhabitants of the informal
districts will have seen their everyday life improved.

à Kibera, un des plus vastes quartiers défavorisés de Nairobi pour
inaugurer le bloc de douche publique de Makina et le kiosque de
Makongeni.
Le projet d’alimentation en eau de la capitale, financé par l’AFD,
comprend une composante spécifique ciblant les quartiers
informels de la capitale. Une première phase a permis de
construire vingt Bio-centers (bloc de
douches et toilettes publiques avec
fosse sceptique) à Kibera, Korogocho
ou encore Mukuru.
D’après une étude d’impact conduite
par l’IFRA (Institut Français
de
Recherche en Afrique), avant le projet
40 % des habitants vivant à proximité
des Bio-centers n’avaient aucun accès à
des facilités décentes. Ils recourraient
pour l’essentiel soit à des sacs
plastiques « flying toilets », soit à des
toilettes de plein air. Ces centres sont
de plus considérés comme plus propres que les facilités privées
voisines et appréciés pour leurs horaires d’ouverture étendus
pour un coût similaire. Les douches publiques de Makina et les
kiosques de Makongeni sont les premiers livrés à Nairobi Water
de la seconde phase, qui comprend quinze blocs de douches et
quinze kiosques. Ils seront gérés par des associations de quartier.
Chaque centre bénéficie en moyenne à 300 personnes.
A terme, environ 15 000 habitants des quartiers informels auront
vu leur quotidien s’améliorer.

A l’occasion du 67° Festival de Cannes, le pavillon des
Cinémas du Monde a accueilli la réunion annuelle des
attachés audiovisuel. Parmi les temps forts de cette journée,
la rencontre avec Mme Fleur Pellerin, Secrétaire d’Etat
chargée du Commerce Extérieur, de la promotion du
tourisme et des Français de l’Etranger. Cette dernière a voulu
souligner l’importance de leur mission de promotion du
savoir-faire français dans le secteur porteur de la production
audiovisuelle, et mettre en
lumière l’action de la France dans
l’accompagnement des pays dans
leur migration vers le numérique.
Madame Marie-Christine Saragosse,
présidente de France Médias Monde
est intervenue aussi pour présenter la
progression de RFI et France 24 sur
tous les continents, et insister sur la
priorité donnée au développement de
la distribution en Afrique, photo cicontre.
Le Festival a aussi été l’occasion de
confirmer l’intérêt des distributeurs français pour le marché
est-africain. Mme Isabelle Giordano, Directrice générale
d’Unifrance films, s’est félicitée de l’émergence d’un nouveau
marché, et nous a assuré de son soutien vis-à-vis du distributeur
234 Medias, porteur du projet pour les trois pays concernés
(Kenya, Ouganda, Rwanda). Le lancement de la distribution de
films français, européens et africains, dans le réseau des salles
commerciales du Kenya avait été reporté suite aux événements
tragiques de Westgate, et son inauguration est désormais prévue
pour le dernier trimestre 2014.
On the occasion of 67th Festival de Cannes, the flag of
World Cinema hosted the annual meeting of audiovisual
attachés. Among the highlights of the day, the meeting with
Ms. Fleur Pellerin, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade,
promotion of tourism and French from abroad. The latter
wanted to emphasize the importance of their mission
to promote French expertise in the growing sector of
audiovisual production, and highlight the action of France
in supporting countries in their
transition to digital migration.

of RFI and France 24 on all continents,
and insist on the priority given to the
distribution in Africa, see photo.
The Festival was also an opportunity
to confirm the interest of French
distributors for the East African
market. Mrs Isabelle Giordano,
Executive Director of Unifrance films,
welcomed the emergence of a new market, and assured us of
his support vis- à-vis the distributor 234 Media, project director
for the three countries (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda). The launch
of the distribution of French, European and African films in
commercial theaters network in Kenya was postponed following
the tragic events at Westgate, and its opening is now scheduled
for the last quarter of 2014.
Le restaurant de l’Alliance Française, jusqu’alors appelé Le
Jardin de Paris, a été revisité et se nomme désormais Table
49, The CBD Bistrot. Il est exploité par l’entreprise NAS
Servair, entreprise franco-kényane. NAS est un traiteur
spécialisé dans les services aéroportuaires depuis 1949
au Kenya. Il a été rejoint par Servair, leader français de la
restauration dans le transport aérien.
Le restaurant Table 49 offre une
délicieuse gamme de plats français
élaborée par Gilles Pommier, Chef
bourguignon, et Daniel Lienard le
directeur du restaurant. Sont aussi
proposés des plats kényans, snacks,
sandwiches, salades et même petitsdéjeuners, ainsi qu’un large choix de
boissons à la carte. Idéalement situé
en centre-ville, les clients peuvent
profiter d’un cadre renouvelé avec
une terrasse et un jardin verdoyant.
Le mobilier, la carte, la décoration,
tout a été revu pour accueillir une large
clientèle en gardant à l’esprit le mélange culturel cher à l’Alliance
Française. Le restaurant est ouvert du lundi au vendredi de 7h
à 20h30, et le samedi de 8h30 à 14h00. Des heures d’ouverture
exceptionnelles sont également prévues pour les évènements :
concerts, Coupe du Monde de Football 2014, ou encore cocktails
privés. Le nouveau restaurant a ouvert au début du mois de Mai,
tout en douceur, afin que l’équipe prenne ses marques dans ce
nouvel univers.

L’évaluation du FSD
Chaque année, le 10 mai, la France marque la “Journée
Commémorative de la l’abolition de l’esclavage “. Cette date
correspond à l’adoption par le Parlement en 2001 de la loi
Taubira qui reconnaît la traite négrière transatlantique et
l’esclavage comme crime contre l’humanité.
A l’occasion de cette commémoration,
le Service de coopération et d’action
culturelle (SCAC), les Alliances
françaises et partenaires organisent
plusieurs évènements entre le 20 Mai et le
1er septembre 2014 à Nairobi ; Mombasa
et Shimoni : Expositions, Conférences
scientifiques pour les lycéens, festival du
film documentaire, Cafés scientifiques et
Conférence de présentation de livres sur les
esclavages dans le monde.
Ce projet est soutenu par l’UNESCO, les
Alliances Françaises au Kenya, l’IRD, les
musées nationaux du Kenya, l’association
Friends of Fort Jesus et l’Ambassade de France
au Kenya. Il rend tout particulièrement
hommage aux musées nationaux du Kenya
pour leurs travaux de conservation des sites
d’esclaves et pour donner la parole à leurs
descendants.

Every year on May 10, France marks the “Memorial Day
of the abolition of slavery.” This date corresponds to the
adoption by the Parliament in 2001 of the Taubira law that
recognizes the transatlantic slave trade and slavery as a
crime against humanity.
On the occasion of the commemoration,
the Department of cooperation and
Cultural Affairs (SCAC), the Alliance
françaises and partners are organizing
several events between May 20 and
September 1 2014 in Nairobi; Mombasa
and Shimoni: Exhibitions, plenary session for
students, documentary film festival, science
cafés and Conference presentation of books
on slavery in the world.
This project is supported by UNESCO,
the Alliance françaises in Kenya, IRD, the
National Museums of Kenya, the Friends
of Fort Jesus and the Embassy of France
in Kenya. It especially pays tribute to the
National Museums of Kenya for their
conservation work on slave sites and to give a
voice to their descendants.
“It is our duty to do an inventory, conserve
and restore the sites and places where Slavery
and Slave Trade occurred. To remember, educating young people,
reflecting on national identities and promotion social justice and
cohesion” UNESCO, 2012
France takes pride in assisting the vulnerable and
marginalised populations as an expression of solidarity. The
Social Fund for Development (SFD) was launched in Kenya
on 7th August 2001, as a co-operation tool which aims at
financing the implementation of small
local development projects. Its objective
is to naurish the Kenyan civil society in
developing and structuring itself. Over
100 projects have been funded since 2001
to a tune amounting to KES 300 million
(2.6 million euros).
The recent evaluation of the SFD has
demonstrated that the program met its goals:
contributing to social development and
giving beneficiaries a chance to be directly
involved in the development process within
three priority topics of intervention: gender
equality and the promotion of women;
Improvement of living conditions in informal
settlements and access to education.
We have funded projects all over Kenya,
including in the most remote places, such as
Turkana (see photo), Tana River and Baringo
counties.
The SFD is a very useful tool for bilateral
cooperation. We believe that with rather limited means, we have
been able to achieve a lot and to have a sustainable impact on the
lives of Kenyan citizens.
La France met un point d’honneur à apporter son soutien
aux populations vulnérables et marginalisées comme
expression de solidarité. Le Fonds social de développement
(FSD) a été lancé au Kenya le 7 Août 2001, comme un
outil de coopération visant à financer
la mise en œuvre de petits projets de
développement local. Son objectif est de
fournir à la société civile kenyane les outils
essentiels à son propre développement
et à sa propre stucturation. Plus de 100
projets ont été financés depuis 2001 pour
un montant total de 300 millions KES (2,6
millions euros).
La récente évaluation du FSD a démontré
que ce programme a atteint ses objectifs
: contribuer au développement social en
donnant aux bénéficiaires une chance d’être
directement impliqués dans le processus de
développement, ceci dans les trois domaines
d’intervention prioritaires : l’égalité des sexes
et la promotion de la femme ; l’amélioration
des conditions de vie dans ces quartiers
défavorisés et l’amélioration de l’accès à
l’éducation. Nous avons financé des projets
au quatre coins du Kenya, y compris dans les
zones les plus reculés, comme le Turkana (photo contre ), Tana
River et les comtés du district de Baringo.
Le FSD est un outil de coopération bilatérale très utile. Avec
des moyens plutôt limités, nous avons pu réaliser un nombre
important de petits projets et avoir un impact durable sur la vie
des citoyens kenyans.

Guillaume Vallée a ébahi tous les publics devant lesquels
il s’est présenté lors de son passage au Kenya au mois de
mai.Il a su présenter ses exploits surnaturels et réaliser de
fascinantes illusions dans des conditions
très diverses, parfois même difficiles
comme dimanche 11 mai dans le quartier
défavorisé de Kariobangui. Une scène a
en effet été montée de façon improvisée
avec des bancs d’école afin de jouer
devant plus de 200 personnes, dont
une majorité d’enfants fascinés. Il s’est aussi
présenté 3 fois devant un public de primaires
au Lycée français Denis Diderot où il a eu un
énorme succès avant de conquérir un public
plus difficile de diplomates et d’institutions
internationales en close-up le lundi soir lors
du cocktail d’ouverture du Festival du Film
Européen à l’Alliance française de Nairobi.
Avec des tours vraiment incroyables, ce

sur scène (et même hors scène) pendant tout
son séjour. Après des représentations à Dar
Es Salam, Mombasa et Nairobi, il a poursuivi
son périple à Eldoret où il s’est produit devant
des étudiants de l’université Moi mais aussi à l’Alliance française
d’Eldoret. Il a ensuite quitté le Kenya pour continuer son voyage
en passant par Kampala, Kigali et Bujumbura avant de renter en
France pour d’autres aventures.

Summary of the European Film Festival
“The sun of the future“ is the theme that was used to
support the short film by five students of the Lycée Denis
Diderot : Theo Bellinguez, Anaïs Calatayud, Heidebroek
Diego, Llona Kentaoui and Charlyne Yaou. Competing in
the famous competition for students “I filmed the job that I
like” Charlyne and Theo represented their comrades at the
ceremony awards on 20th May 2014 at the Grand Rex in
Paris.
Impressed and moved, they received, the director -producer
Serge Moati and sponsor GDF -Suez, the Clap d’Or (1st prize)
of the “trades of energy” infront of 3,000
spectators and as well as of their 1112
competitors .

On 21st May 2013, Llona Kentaoui, a
second grader won the Bronze Clap for
his documentary titled “Lightworkers”
on the humanitarian work of
High School in the disadvantaged
neighborhood of Kibra.
This award is therefore a dedication to the photo-video
animatation Club in existence for two years under the stewardship
of teacher Aurélien Perrey at the Lycée Denis Diderot.
Bilan du Festival du film européen
«Le soleil a de l’avenir», c’est cette thématique qui a servi
de support au court métrage réalisé par 5 élèves du Lycée
Denis Diderot : Théo Bellinguez, Anaïs Calatayud, Diego
Heidebroek, Llona Kentaoui et Charlyne Yaou. En lice dans
le célèbre concours destiné aux lycéens «Je filme le métier qui
me plaît», Charlyne et Théo ont représenté leurs camarades
à la cérémonie de remise des prix le 20 mai 2014 au Grand
Rex de Paris.
Impressionnées et émus, ils ont reçu, du réalisateur-producteur
Serge Moati et du sponsor GDF-Suez, le Clap d’Or (1er prix) de la
catégorie «Métiers de l’énergie» devant 3
000 spectateurs et devançant ainsi leurs
1112 concurrents.

Le 21 mai 2013, Llona Kentaoui, élève
de seconde avait remporté le Clap de
Bronze pour son documentaire intitulé
“les artisans de la lumière”, portant
sur l’action humanitaire du Lycée dans
le quartier défavorisé de Kibera. C’est donc une consécration
pour le Club photo-vidéo animé depuis deux ans par l’enseignant
Aurélien Perrey au Lycée Denis Diderot.

The 23rd edition of the annual European Film Festival took
place from 13th May to 1st June at the Alliance Française of
Nairobi. This year’s Festival saw 20 acclaimed films from 14
European countries beign screened during 3 weeks.
This year’s festival was marked by two new acts: France
presented a Ciné-Concert on Monday 19th May. The duo of
Julien Petit (saxophonist) and Guillaume Cherpitel (pianist)
accompanied two silent films from the early 20th century: ‘Paris
qui dort’ (Paris Asleep) by René Clair and ‘Le Voyage dans la
Lune’ (A Trip to the Moon) by Georges Méliès.
With jazzy compositions from multiple
influences (electro, groove, slam…) they did
captivate the audience. There were also two
Ciné-Cafés. The Kenyan film ‘The Captain of
Nakara’ screened at the terrace of the Alliance
on 21st May was followed by a discussion
in the presence of its director Bob Nyanja
accompanied by the scripwriter Cajetan Boy
and the actor Charles Bukeko. On 27th May,
the film ‘A Hijacking’ was also screened at
the terrace of the Alliance and followed by a
discussion with Keith Pearson who coached
the Somali actors in the movie. In other
news, the European Union presented 2 films
produced with the support of the ACP Films
programme: the Kenyan film ‘The Captain of
Nakara’ and the Congolese film ‘Viva Riva’.
After Nairobi, the European Film Festival will
continue in Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret.

Du 13 mai au 1er juin, a eu lieu à l’Alliance française de
Nairobi, le 23ème Festival du Cinéma Européen. Cette année
14 pays ainsi que l’Union européenne ont participé, soit une
vingtaine de films projetés durant 3 semaines.
De nouveaux rendez-vous ont marqué ce 23ème festival : la
France a présenté un Ciné-concert le 19 mai. Le duo Julien
Petit (saxophoniste) et Guillaume Cherpitel (pianiste) ont
accompagné en musique deux films muets français du début du
20ème siècle : ‘Paris qui dort’ de René Clair et ‘Le Voyage dans
la Lune’ de Georges Méliès. Sur des airs jazzy
emprunts de multiples influences (électro,
groove, slam…), ils ont su captiver le public.
L’Alliance française a également organisé deux
Ciné-Cafés. La projection du film kenyan ‘Le
Capitaine de Nakara’ le 21 mai sur la terrasse
de l’Alliance a été suivi par une discussion
en présence de son réalisateur Bob Nyanja
accompagné du scénariste Cajetan Boy et de
l’acteur Charles Bukeko. Le 27 mai, le film
‘A Hijacking’ a lui aussi était projeté sur la
terrasse de l’Alliance et suivi d’une discussion

Guillaume Vallée amazed all his audiences to whom he
performed when he came to Kenya in May. He was able to
show his supernatural feats and realize fascinating illusions
in very different conditions, sometimes
difficult like Sunday 11th May in the
informal settlements of Kariobangi. A
stage was improvised with school benches
in order to perform for more than 200
people, whose majority were fascinated
children.
He showed his tricks three times at the French
School Denis Diderot where he had a huge
success before conquering a more difficult
audience: diplomats and international
institutions on Monday evening during
the opening cocktail of the European Film
Festival at the Alliance Française of Nairobi.
With seemingly impossible, supernatural
feats, this very flexible magician has known
how to marvel audiences (young and old) on
stage (and even out of stage) during his whole
stay. After shows in Dar Es Salam, Mombasa
and Nairobi, he continued his trip to Eldoret
where he did a show in front of Moi university
students as well as at the Alliance Française Eldoret. He then
left Kenya to continue with his trip to Kampala, Kigali and
Bujumbura before going back to France for other adventures.
L’IFRA, en collaboration avec les Musées Nationaux du
Kenya, organisent un colloque sur le thème « Tourisme et
patrimoine » du 16 au 17 juillet 2014 à l’auditorium Louis
Leakey. Ce colloque examinera les nouvelles pratiques
touristiques, aussi bien l’émergence d’un tourisme domestique
et la diversification des demandes
touristiques internationales, audelà ou en complément des modes et
modèles dominants que l’on observe
dans les pays de la Communauté estafricaine, avec des variantes nationales
et régionales.
Ces nouvelles pratiques suivent,
reproduisent, s’approprient les modes
dominants tout en les modifiant, et
expérimentent de nouvelles voies
(tourisme
culturel,
identitaire,
mémoriel, comme le site Kit Mikayi
près de Kisumu, photo ci-contre).
Ces nouveaux usages mettent en avant de nouveaux publics,
de nouveaux usagers qui diffusent de nouveaux modèles,
de nouvelles consommations (excursionniste, associative,
participative, mémoriel) mais également de nouvelles
démarches (tourisme autochtone, solidaire, équitable). Les
nouvelles politiques touristiques des États tentent de prendre
en compte cette nouvelle donne, de répondre à de telles attentes
avec des offres patrimoniales, muséographiques, ou encore
écotouristiques.
IFRA
IFRA, in collaboration with the National Museums of Kenya,
will organize a conference on “Tourism and heritage” from
16th to 17th July 2014 at the Louis Leakey Auditorium. This
conference will examine new tourism practices, both on
the emergence of domestic tourism and diversification of
an international tourism demand,
beyond or in addition to the
dominant modes and models that can
be observed in the countries from East
Africa Community, with national and
regional variations.
These new practices follow, reproduce,
an ownership of the dominant modes
while modifying and experimenting
with new ways (cultural tourism,
identity, memorial sites such as the
Kit Mikayi, see photo). These new
uses highlight new audiences, new
users who release new models, new
consumption (tripper, associative, participative, memorial), but
also new approaches (Aboriginal tourism, solidarity, fair).
New tourism policy for states tries to take into account this new
situation, so as to meet such expectations with heritage offers,
museum, or ecotourism.
