Excused: Christian Fuentes (Student Senate) Absent: Alonso Parker (EEPMA), Yajaira Pons (LASA), Opeyemi Odewale (UGR) Important Announcements: Thanks by Dr. Dougan. Praise by Mr. Wade: commends students on behavior with republican speaker David Horowitz. Praise from Mr. Bakr: Students’ behavior shows active stance and attendance; also involvement in URI matters. Expands on how the students’ being active prevents university from becoming stagnant. He talks of a newly formed committee and its purpose and the focus groups it hosts and people’s lack of participation thereof. Stresses importance of focus groups and how they pertain to students. He speaks of potential focus groups with LASA and UHURU SASA. Focus group estimated to take about an hour. Notes and reports made on focus groups will be confidential and anonymous. 1. Membership A sign-in sheet was passed around. Individuals introduced themselves. 28 people were in attendance. Members who were absent were noted. Membership Changes o Uhuru SASA asked to be included in MUSIC even though they did not attend Leadership Conference. Victor Omoayo motions for UHURU SASA to be official members of MUSIC, Richard and Rama second; all in favor. SASA will need to identify their representative. o Model U.N. announces Christopher Frappier. as their official representative. o CVSA changed their representative to Miriam Caetano. o ASA changed their representative to Richard Sterling. Cassius makes motion to close membership at 18 student seats and 3 staff/faculty seats; Stephanie Bromley seconds, all in favor. Not all staff/faculty seats have been filled but we can discuss this at the next meeting. Mailee will contact the absent members and identify their interest. If they are not present at the next meeting then their membership will be removed. 2. MUSIC Chairs Volunteers to be Chair: Richard Sterling (ASA, D3, UGR), Stephen Ho (URI Breakdancing), Rama Ly (Capoeira), and Cassius Spears (NASO). o Victor O. motions to close nominations for chair, Stephen seconds. o Ballots counted by Mr. Bakr. o Rama and Stephen tie for Chair position o Miriam motions for Co- Chairs. Motion passed with one abstention. Budget Subcommittee Chair Volunteers: Richard Sterling (ASA), Nadine Almada (Alima), and Miriam Caetano (CVSA). o Judy makes motion to close, Stephen seconds; all in favor. o Ballots counted by Mr. Bakr. o The new Budget Subcommittee Chair is Richard Sterling. 3. MUSIC Coalition Grant Proposals URI Breakdancing o $474.00 asked for by Odie Maknoxa URI Breakdancing presented an excellent proposal with PowerPoint. o Victor motions to approve $474.00 for URI Breakdancing, Stephen, Richard and Rama all second; all in favor. ASA o Richard and Boppa (ASA) ask for $500 funding for annual ECAASU trip. o Miriam makes motion for full funding of ASA request, Stephen seconds; all in favor. 4. Online Calendar The MCC introduces an online calendar for MUSIC members. Each organization will receive a password, login name and be able to add events. Mailee/Judy/Siliang will delete events when necessary. Orgs outside of MUSIC can only post events if members of MUSIC approve. 5. Announcements – All invited to join and participate NSBE study session on Tuesday Dec. 12, 2005 from 2-6PM. UHURU SASA Kwanzaa Ball on Fri Dec. 9, 2005 from 6-10PM. Tuesday Dec. 6, 2005 is the last day to buy tickets. Alumni Professionals of Colour Forum on Wednesday Dec. 7 from 6-7PM President’s Holiday Party on Tuesday Dec. 12, 2005 from 8-10PM. MCC Holiday Gathering on Thursday Dec. 8 from 1-4 PM.
