This year The Flower Show is dedicated the to the Bees,
without whom the world could not bloom.

PLANTES DOMESTIQUES
Welcome to the 2016 edition of the Stanbridge East
Flower Show.
The first Flower Show was held in 1936. Members of our parish,
St James the Apostle, attended the Farnham Flower Show in
1935 and were inspired to have their own event in Stanbridge
East. In August of 1936 the Stanbridge East Flower Show was
up and running and with the exception of a few years the Flower
Show has been a continuous highlight of the summer season in
Stanbridge East.
For over half a century The Flower Show has been part of the
fabric of the Parish of St. James the Apostle. A source of pride
for gardening buffs from far and wide, and a source of joy for all
who love the beauty of flowers. This year’s Flower Show booklet
reflects the highlights of categories from years past, as we continue to bridge memories of years gone by, with the new memories
being made today.
No community institution can survive for over half a century
without the continued support of its citizens and volunteers.
Looking back through the Flower Show archives, we see the
names of hundreds of volunteers and Flower Show enthusiasts.
We gather again this year to celebrate the beauty of flowers, and
to remember all those no longer with us, who carried the Flower
Show forward to today.

Bienvenue à l’exposition agricole 2016 de Stanbridge East.
La première exposition horticole de Stanbridge East a été organisée en 1936. C’est en effet à la suite de leur visite à l’exposition
horticole tenue à Farnham en 1935 que les membres de la paroisse anglicane de Stanbridge East décidèrent d’organiser la leur
propre.
Depuis le mois d’août 1936, et à l’exception d’un hiatus de
quelques années, l’exposition horticole est devenue un événement annuel estival d’une telle envergure qu’elle fait partie de
l’identité même de la paroisse Saint-James-the-Apostle depuis quatre
-vingts ans .
Cette exposition permet aux jardiniers experts de tirer fierté des
fruits de leur labeur et de réjouir tous ceux qui sont amants des
beautés de la nature.
Le livret de l’exposition horticole vous propose des catégories
diverses de compositions florales faisant référence aux précédentes années afin de bien établir une continuité entre le passé et
le temps présent.
Aucune organisation communautaire ne peut durer plus d’un demi-siècle sans le travail constant des citoyens et des bénévoles qui
la composent et la font vivre. En consultant les archives de notre
exposition horticole, on reconnaît les noms de centaines de bénévoles et de participants enthousiastes qui l’ont portée au cours
des années. C’est à la suite et dans les traces de ceux qui nous ont
précédés que nous marchons afin de célébrer la beauté des fleurs
en présentant une exposition horticole d’une qualité dont ils seraient eux-mêmes très fiers.

Rules Governing Exhibits
1. All exhibits must be in place by 9PM Friday evening.
2. Exhibit tags must be securely fastened to the exhibit.
.
3. All exhibits must conform to the class size and section in
which it is entered. Please be sure to follow instructions regarding number of blooms and dimensions of the arrangement where applicable.
4. Size restrictions must be observed as stated (within an inch
or 2.5cm)
5. Where a definite number of blooms is required unopened
buds are permitted in addition to the required number of
blooms
6. Flowers in CLASS B, CUT FLOWERS must be grown by
the exhibitor. However in the ARRANGEMENT CLASS,
where creativity predominately is accounted for, one may use
flowers from a neighbor’s garden but not buy or acquire then
from a florist.
7. Exhibitors will not be permitted to compete for more than
one prize in the same section.
8. Exhibitors are requested to prepare beforehand a list of their
entrees, giving numbers and section to facilitate the preparation tags. The exhibitors may obtain exhibit tags in advance
on request and prepare them themselves if they so desire.
9. No new classes of sections will be added.
10. Judges decisions are final in all cases.

ENFANTS DE 8 ANS ET MOINS
1. JADRIN D’ASSIETTE
Créer une composition florale dans une assiette à tarte. La
composition ne doit pas excéder 22 cm.
2. MINIONS.
Créer un Minion à partir de courges ou de courgettes
jaunes. La composition ne doit pas excéder 30 cm.
3. ANIMAL OU MONSTRE EN LÉGUMES.
Créer n’importe quel animal ou monstre à partir de légumes variés. On doit lui donner un nom. La composition ne doit pas excéder 30cm dans tous les sens.
4. BOUQUET MINIATURE
À partir de petites fleurs, créer une composition d’un
maximum de 10 cm de hauteur.
5. SAUVONS NOS ABEILLES
À partir de fleurs des champs, créer une composition
dans un pot de miel. La composition ne doit pas excéder
25 cm dans tous les sens.
Des accessoires décoratifs peuvent être ajoutés.

leur exposant) doivent y avoir été adéquatement attachées.
1. PLATE GARDEN.
Make a plate garden in an aluminum pie plate, no larger
than 9in. (22cm)
2. MINIONS.
Make a Minion out of a yellow squash or yellow zucchini.
Must not exceed 12 in. (30cm)
3. VEGETABLE ANIMAL OR MONSTER.
Any animal or monster made using vegetables. Must be
named MUST NOT EXCEED 12 (30 cm) in in any dimension.
4. MINIATURE BOUQUET
Using small flowers make an arrangement not to exceed a
height of 4 in. or (10cm)
5. SAVING OUR BEES.
Using wild flowers make an arrangement in a honey jar.
Not to exceed 10 in. (25cm) in any dimension.
ACCESSORIES PERMITTED
3. Toute composition doit être conforme aux critères de la catégorie et

d’avance, en s’assurant de bien fournir toute l’information pertinente afin de préparer les étiquettes d’identification. Un exposant
peut se procurer d’avance lesdites étiquettes afin de les compléter lui
-même.

1948: A Floral Arrangement
in the Most Unique Container.
Using a variety of garden flowers and greenery create an
artistic arrangement in a unique container not
exceeding maximum (20 in.) 50cm in height
2. 1951: Corsage.
Using 1 to 3 flowers, create a pinned corsage. Greenery
and baby’s breath may be used.
3. 1953. Coronation Bouquet:
Using pastel colored tea roses create a small bouquet fit
for a queen, in a silver vase. Accessories permitted.
4. 1955. Flowers in a Cup and Saucer.
Using a variety of colorful flowers make an
arrangement in a tea cup. Accessories permitted.
5. 1964. Old Fashioned Styled Arrangement of Flowers
in a Wash Basin and Pitcher.
Using flowers of 3 different colors.
Create a large arrangement reminiscent
of bygone days. Accessories and greenery permitted.

Make a small arrangement in an ice cube tray representative of the movie Frozen. One accessory permitted.
3. MINIONS,
Make an arrangement using yellow and blue flowers depicting the cartoon characters “The Minions”, one accessory permitted.
4. AIRPLANE.
Make an Airplane using vegetables and/or flowers not to
exceed 10in (25cm) in any dimensions
5. WILD FLOWERS,
Make an arrangement of wild flowers in a recycled
container
6. PLATE GARDEN.
Make a plate garden in a pie plate not to exceed 9in.

5. 1964. Composition florale dans un broc et une cuvette
Avec des fleurs de trois couleurs différentes, créer une
grande composition rappelant le passé. On peut y
ajouter de la verdure et des accessoires décoratifs.
6. 1967. Bouquet du centenaire
Dans un récipient ou un vase rouge, créer une
composition de fleurs blanches et rouges.
Verdure et graminées permises.
7. 1968. Porte ouverte
Créer un composition verticale étroite de grandes fleurs
pour représenter l’entrée d’une petite maison ou d’un
appartement. La composition ne doit pas excéder 50cm
de hauteur.

A Victorian arrangement to be staged in a gilded picture
frame approximate size 16 x 20 in. Using Victorian style
flowers make an arrangement, using the picture frame as
a background. (Popular flowers of the Victorian era were:
roses, tulips, carnations, daisies, china asters, lilies, cocks
comb, peonies, bleeding hearts, freesias, dahlias and
baby’s breath.)
9.1977. A Floral Cross.
Using any colored flowers design a floral arrangement
in the shape of a cross.
10. 1985. Small Beginning.
Common garden flowers arranged in an old fashioned
bowl to commemorate the first flower show of 1936.
11. 1986. Attic Antics.
Container should be old. Choose your flowers.
Use your imagination.
12. 1990. The Pond.
A shallow container filled with flowers and foliage,
suggestive of a quiet pond. Accessories permitted.
13. 1991. The Ecumenical Arrangement.
A blend of many flowers illustrating the harmony to be
found in diversity. Max 20 in. (50 cm.)
14. People’s Choice Arrangement: Save our Bees
Create a colorful arrangement using some of the
flowers that bees are most attracted to: Daisies, Zinnias,
Asters, Queen Anne’ s Lace, Bee Balm (Monarda), Sun
flowers, Blanket Flower, Coneflower, Yarrow,
Pincushion Flower, Lavender. Accessories permitted.
This floral arrangement will be voted on by the people attending the
flower show. Anyone holding an entry ticket may vote for the arrangement they deem the best. Anyone holding an exhibitor ticket may enter
this category.

Dans un récipient peu profond, créer une composition
de fleurs et de feuillage rappelant un étang paisible. On
peut utiliser des accessoires décoratifs.
13. 1991. Composition florale œcuménique
Un mélange de fleurs variées illustrant l’harmonie dans la
diversité. Dimension maximale de 50 cm.
14. Choix du public: sauvons les abeilles
Élaborer une composition florale utilisant certaines des
fleurs privilégiées des abeilles: marguerites, zinnias, asters,
dentelles-de-la-reine-Anne, monardes, achillées, fleurs de
lavande, tournesols, immortelles, échinacées, etc. On
peut utiliser des accessoires décoratifs.
