Préface
Du 17 au 19 avril, les équipes de curling de toute l’Europe se
rendront au centre sportif de Kockelscheuer pour déterminer le
vainqueur de la 40e Coupe de Luxembourg de Curling.
Le curling est une discipline sportive qui trouve ses racines au
XVIe siècle en Écosse. Avec un premier club fondé en 1668, le
curling a commencé à développer sa notoriété et à passionner
de plus en plus de joueurs et ce n’est qu’en 1975 que le Curling
Club Hiversport Luxembourg a été fondé.
Au début, les premiers membres et joueurs participant aux compétitions étaient des vétérans de guerre handicapés, des volontaires de retour de la guerre de Corée. Aujourd’hui, le bon état de santé et une bonne condition physique sont les prérequis pour tout joueur de curling moderne.
La composition des équipes au sein du Curling Club Hiversport Luxembourg a évolué au
cours du temps : hommes et femmes de maintes nationalités différentes se retrouvent plusieurs fois par semaine à Kockelscheuer pour s’entraîner et se préparer aux grands défis et
tournois nationaux et internationaux.
Cette multiculturalité, la tolérance entre les membres et les nombreux liens d’amitié qui se
sont développés au sein du Curling Club Hiversport Luxembourg reflètent en quelque sorte
l’histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg du dernier demi-siècle. Grâce à une ouverture d’esprit
et l’intérêt pour les passions d’autrui, la Ville a su poser la première pierre pour une société
multiculturelle favorisant à la fois intégration et inclusion.
Au nom du collège échevinal et de tous les citoyens de la Ville de Luxembourg, il me tient à
cœur de remercier les membres du comité du Curling Club Hiversport Luxembourg pour
leur inlassable engagement en vue de la promotion de ce sport, qui grâce aux sportifs motivés a su se distancer de l’image d’un sport marginal pour se retrouver, en début du XXIe
siècle parmi les activités sportives sur glace les plus connues. C’est grâce à leur savoir-faire
et leur dynamisme qu’une manifestation d’envergure internationale peut avoir lieu, et je suis
persuadée qu’elle connaîtra un grand succès auprès des actifs et des amateurs du curling.
C’est avec plaisir que je souhaite une chaleureuse bienvenue à tous les sportifs et à leurs accompagnateurs du Grand-Duché et de l’Europe entière, ayant accepté de se rendre à Luxembourg-ville pour participer à la 40e édition de la Coupe de Luxembourg.

Dear curlers and friends of curling,
On behalf of the Curling Club Lëtzebuerg may I warmly welcome you to
the 40th "Coupe de l'Amitié".
Throughout these 40 years we have done our best to live up to the name of our
tournament and this year will be no different, only better.
We have organised a special Gala Evening at the Arquebusiers Cultural Centre
with an excellent buffet and live music by Cotton Teege for dancing and
enjoyment.
Many volunteers from inside and outside the club have come together to organise
this tournament and it is thanks to them that we have such a good time both on
and off the ice. Thanks also to our many sponsors who make this tournament
possible by advertising in our brochure or by donating prizes. I would like to
make a particular mention of Mister Lex Fautsch, the manager of Kockelscheuer
Ice Rink who has supported not only this event but also curling over the whole
season; and a BIG thank to our organising team and to the ice-makers who have
produced excellent swinging ice for our enjoyment.
Let's have fun on and off the ice. May the best team win, and may the others have
a good time
