Guest Instructions
Playing one of our murder mysteries requires no special acting abilities, just a willingness to have fun.
Our site gives you all the details you need to prepare for the party including character descriptions of all
guests, internal information about your character (do not reveal this to others), and costume/prop
recommendations.
DO TAKE SOME TIME TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF with YOUR CHARACTER and the other
CHARACTERS. You are ALL suspects! HINT: Print off the character details and bring this with you to
the party in order to help you sort out who is who.
During the party, each of you will be given clues. The clues provide all the information required to unlock
the mystery. Each clue is marked as either a clue to be concealed or a clue to be revealed. Conceal clues
are generally information about your character that you try to hide from the others. You should reveal the
"defend yourself" information when you are challenged. Reveal clues are ones that you should share with
others in casual conversation/direct accusation. As the game progresses, you will gather more and more
information and at the end of the allotted time you will need to sift through fact and fiction to decide who
the murderer is. NOTE: No one, not even the murderer him/herself, knows who the killer is--not until
ROUND FOUR, THE SOLUTION ROUND.
The characters can be played to suit the comfort zone of each player. If you like the spotlight or enjoy role
playing, immerse yourself in your character’s persona and live the night as you think they would. You
may even decide to exaggerate your character’s personality for even more effect. On the other hand, if
you prefer to participate in a less theatrical capacity, you may want to read your clues as they are
presented until you've got your feet wet. Just be sure to reveal all the information in each round.
There are only a few simple rules to follow:
Stay in Character. (Costumes are highly recommended)
Hide/Stretch the truth, but don't lie.
Defend yourself (or at least divert attention from yourself)
Interrogate others. Improvise! Just stay in character.
The game takes approximately 2-4 hours to play, depending on the number of people playing.
I hope you have a wonderful time playing "The Psycho Circus." Once you've played the game, please
send me an email ([email protected]) to let me know how the game went. If you enjoyed the
game, please consider posting a review on the host-party site.
Thank you-- Nora Louise Syran

Round 1 - Round One--INTRODUCTIONS
Round Instructions
Hand each of your guests their introductory monologues as they arrive. Give everyone a chance to read
them through to themselves before starting the game. Then, as host, read the following aloud:
"Reginald the Ringmaster is dead. All that's left of him is his top hat which we found in the locked lion's
cage. He was eaten by a lion! In the cage we also found a tarot card, "Strength" (show everyone the
CLUE: THE STRENGTH CARD). Someone locked him in the lion's cage. Who could have killed him
and why? The circus opens tomorrow morning. If news of this gets out, we'll all be ruined."
The host should then ask everyone to introduce themselves. The host should make sure to move this part
of the game along.
They can speak in any order, however, MACK M. LAFFE is to START the round.
Once everyone else has introduced themselves, Claire Voyante will get everyone's attention. In addition to
reading fortunes, she is a medium and has a message from the grave, from Reginald the Ringmaster
himself! CLAIRE VOYANTE/REGINALD THE RINGMASTER is/are to SPEAK LAST.
NOTE: If the host or an "extra" guest is playing the role of Reginald the Ringmaster, they can read their
voice from the grave themselves. If not, Madame Voyante should do so. HE IS SPEAKING THROUGH
HER. Be sure to print off REGINALD'S CLUE even if you've not assigned him to a guest; Claire will
then read his part. (THIS APPLIES TO LATER ROUNDS AS WELL)
Once Reginald has delivered his message (through Claire Voyante), hand everyone the CIRCUS SCENE
OF THE CRIME and work out where everyone was at the time of Reginald's murder.
Move on to ROUND TWO once everyone is comfortable with who is who and who was where between
2-3 pm this afternoon...

Round 1 Clue for Mack M. Laffe
INTRODUCE YOURSELF--SPEAK FIRST
SPEAKS VERY CLEARLY AND INTELLIGENTLY:
I am Mack M. Laffe. I've been with "The Psycho Circus" for years. I'm the one who gets the
kick in the pants, the pie in the face and the chair pulled out from under me. Everyone laughs.
I'm a clown. My favorite part of each show is when I "get in on the act" with Harriette the
Horsewoman. I get right in there in whatever position she's in and copy her movements.
Because of my big, floppy feet and silly painted smile, the crowds just go wild...I was in the big
top rehearsing with Harriette all afternoon. If we don't solve this mystery before the "townies"
find out about Reginald, there'll be such a scandal. We'll be done for.
This clue should be revealed to others.
"-
Round 1 Clue for Ivan A. Target
INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO EVERYONE
SPEAKS WITH A SEXY FOREIGN ACCENT:
I am Ivan. Ivan A. Target. I perform with my wife, Ima, under the Big Top. Ring #2, between
Leo's Lion act and Harriette's Horseshow in the main ring. My specialty is the blindfolded
impalement act. I throw knives at my wife while blindfolded. Reginald was thinking of moving
our act to the center ring, we are that popular with the crowds. Why would I want to kill him? I
was rehearsing with my wife outside in the field behind our wagons all afternoon.
This clue should be revealed to others.

Round 1 Clue for Ima Target
INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO EVERYONE
SHE COMES ACROSS AS NOT VERY BRIGHT:
I am Ima. (pronounced: I'm a...) Ima Target. Me? Kill Reggie? Why? He was so good...to
me...to us. He'd shown such interest in our act, and was even meeting with me in my wagon to
discuss costume options...personally. He had such a good eye and sense of style. Why, he'd
even promised to move us from Ring 2 to the center ring one of these days. Why would I want
to kill him? I was with my husband, Ivan, in the fields behind our wagons rehearsing for our
show all afternoon
This clue should be revealed to others.
"-
Round 1 Clue for Barbara
INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO EVERYONE
SHE IS A BIT SHY:
I am Barbara the Bearded Lady. I've only been "on the show" for a few months now. I am new
to the circus, a rookie. I hardly knew Reginald. He hired me and I am grateful for the
opportunity. Why would I kill him? I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life. I was in my
trailer all afternoon, trimming my beard. You wouldn't believe how fast it grows.
YOU ARE SLIGHTLY DEAF: BE SURE TO ASK OTHERS TO REPEAT IMPORTANT
INFORMATION THROUGHOUT THE GAME
This clue should be revealed to others.

Round 1 Clue for Leo
INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO EVERYONE
HE IS FULL OF CONFIDENCE, BUT SNEEZES FREQUENTLY:
I am Leo. The "slanger". That's a lion or big cat trainer for the "First of May" over there (he
indicates Barbara the Bearded Lady who is new to the circus). I've been working on "The
Psycho Circus" for years--always the center ring, I might add. My act is very popular. Why
would I want to kill Reginald and cause such a scandal? I was napping this afternoon, in my
wagon. Working with the big cats is hard work and I've got this new allergy, to cat hair which
makes my eyes swell up and my nose gets blocked...I need a snooze every now and then. If we
don't work out who killed Reginald, we'll all be ruined. And then where would I go? I don't
want to work in a zoo. I've heard you can catch all kinds of diseases working in a zoo!
This clue should be revealed to others.
