Title Part Number Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software 7.2 Installation Guide 819-0287-10 chapter 3 You can find the document on the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.2 CD-ROM and in the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.2 documentation kit. Solaris 10 Support Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software 7.2 does not support Solaris 10. To get Solaris 10 support, you must install one of the applicable Sun StorEdge EBS 7.2 latest Service Update patch below: ■ 116831-xx for 32-bit SPARC base package ■ 116832-xx for 64-bit SPARC base package ■ 116833-xx for 32-bit x86 client base package ■ 116834-xx for 32-bit SPARC L10N base package The patches can be downloaded from: http://sunsolve.sun.com For installation instructions, refer to the README file of the above patches, and the NetWorker 7.2.1 documents posted on EMC/Legato web site at: http://www.legato.com/support/ Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software 7.2 Update Guide 3 Additional Information ■ When you update from Solstice Backup release 5.x to Sun StorEdge EBS 7.2, the client file indexes and media database must be converted to a new format. For details on the conversion procedure, see the Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software 7.2 Installation Guide, 819-0287-10. Caution – This is a one-way conversion. After the client file indexes and the media database have been updated to Sun StorEdge EBS release 7.2, these objects cannot be reverted for use by a previous release of the Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software. ■ A new resource database replaces nsr.res and nsrjb.res files. In Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software releases earlier than 7.x, all resource information was stored in *.res files. To provide better performance and improved scalability, Sun StorEdge EBS 7.x replaces the following files with a new Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software resource database: /nsr/res/nsr.res /nsr/res/nsrjb.res The configuration information these files contained now resides in the following directory structure: /nsr/res/nsrdb/00 . . . /nsr/res/nsrdb/09 Within this directory structure, each resource is stored in a separate numbered file. As new resources are created (for example, Client, Group, or Pool resources), new files are added in these directories. Because client resources are generally very small, the Sun StorEdge EBS client (nsrexecd) continues to use the /nsr/res/nsrla.res file. ■ 4 If you update from Solstice Backup 5.5 (also known as release 5.5.1) to Sun StorEdge EBS 7.x, and you have Enterprise Application Module (EAM) 2.x for Oracle to back up Oracle clients, you can no longer backup Oracle 8x clients. This is because Solstice Backup 5.5 software release offered EAM 2.x both for Oracle 7.x and for Oracle 8x support. Solstice Backup 6.0 and later releases provide two modules for Oracle support: Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software 7.2 Update Guide • September 2005 ■ Enterprise Application Module 2.x for Oracle 7.x ■ Enterprise Application Module 3.x for Oracle 8x and later You must choose one of the options below if you want to continue backing up Oracle 8x clients after the update: ■ ■ ■ Keep the Enterprise Application Module 2.x for Oracle 7.x (LSBIS-XXX-2151), and purchase the Enterprise Application Module 3.x for Oracle 8x and later (EBSIS-999-2154). Give up Enterprise Application Module 2.x for Oracle (LSBIS-XXX-2151) in exchange for Enterprise Application Module 3.x for Oracle 8x and later (EBSIS999-2154) at no charge. Prior to the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.2 software release, there was no distinction between licenses for Enterprise Application Module (EAM) for Oracle, UNIX client and Enterprise Application Module (EAM) for Oracle, Windows/NT client. They were all of license type Z35. With the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.2 software release, the license type of EAM for Oracle, UNIX client was changed to D35. If you have EAM for Oracle, UNIX client in your existing configuration, and you are updating to the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.1 software or later release, the Z35 license type will be displayed as unknown license type after the update, however, the functionality will still be enabled as is. To identify whether you have the correct enabler code for the appropriate EAM for Oracle, UNIX client, you should use the nsrcap command line utility in verbose mode. ■ With versions of Solstice Backup earlier than 6.0, you could use the Client Connection license to back up clients that belonged to a cluster. Solstice Backup 6.0 introduced a new license for backing up clustered clients. With Solstice Backup 6.0 and later, the software determines whether the client belongs to a cluster. If the client belongs to a cluster, the software checks for the new Cluster Client Connections license. The absence of the Cluster Client Connections license results in the following error message: UNIX CLUSTER CLIENT license: Too many clients To back up clustered clients using Solstice Backup 6.0 or later, you must purchase the Cluster Client Connections license. Note – The Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software Power Edition license is built in with a Cluster Client Connections license that allows backing up of two clustered clients of same platform type as the backup server. Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software 7.2 Update Guide 5 ■ With versions of Solstice Backup earlier than 6.0, Linux client support was included with the ClientPak for UNIX license. As of the Solstice Backup 6.0 software release, the ClientPak for UNIX license no longer includes the Linux client support. A separate ClientPak for Linux license is required for backing up Linux clients on a backup server of a different platform. ■ With versions of Sun StorEdge EBS earlier than 7.0, you could back up to a File Type device with a base server edition license. As of the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.0 software release, there is a new Advanced File Type device, as well as a new DiskBackup Option license. You must have the DiskBackup Option license to perform backups to disk, both for the new Advanced File Type device and for the existing File Type device. If you are updating from a release prior to Sun StorEdge EBS 7.0, and are backing up to disk, you can receive “grandfather” licenses on a per disk array basis with a maximum of two licenses. ■ With the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.0 release, the licensing structure has moved to a new tier-pricing model for Enterprise Application Modules for Windows Client, and for Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) Client Connections. For Enterprise Application Modules for Windows Client licenses, the tiering is based on the number of processors of the application server, as follows: Tier Tier Tier Tier 1 2 3 4 = = = = Single processor Dual processor Four processors Eight or more processors For NDMP Client Connection licenses, the tiering is based on the model and type of Network Attached Storage (NAS) server, as follows: Tier 1: NetApp F85/F87/F720; Auspex NS2000; Mirapoint M300/M400, Mirapoint M2500 (94GB or 256GNB); and Procom 800 Series. Tier 2: NetApp F740/F760/F810/F820/F825; Auspex NSc3000; Mirapoint M2500 (418GB or 580GB), Mirapoint M4000 (192GB or 390GB); Procom 1000 Series; and Sun StorEdge 5210. Tier 3: NetApp F840/F860/F880/FAS940; EMC IP4700; Auspex NS3010/NS3010XR; Mirapoint M4000 (840GB); Procom 3000 Series; and Sun StorEdge 5310. Tier 4: NetApp FAS960/R100; EMC Celerra; and Auspex NS3020XA. ■ With the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.0 software release, the following licensing policies are now enforced: One NDMP Client Connection license is required per NDMP data server. One Dynamic Drive Sharing (DDS) license is required per shared tape drive. One Enterprise Application Module license is required per physical host on which the application is running. 6 Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software 7.2 Update Guide • September 2005 ■ As of the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.0 software release, the SAN Storage Node (SSN) license has been renamed Dedicated Storage Node (DSN) license to reflect its true functionality; only local backup data streams are supported. You must use a traditional Storage Node license to accept backup data streams from remote Sun StorEdge EBS client hosts. ■ If you have existing licenses that need to be grandfathered, please contact your local sales representative, who will help you gather the required information and send the request for the new license. To continue the existing feature support while you obtain a permanent license, use the 45-day Evaluation Enabler Code available in Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software 7.2 Roadmap, 819-0289-10. You can find the hardcopy document in the Sun StorEdge EBS 7.2 Update Kit.
