ANGLAIS – COLLEGE / A2 - B1 – LA FANTASY : LES HEROS ET LES MONSTRES DANS LES LIVRES, LES JEUX ET LES FILMS © 2011 – SCÉRÉN – CNDP 5 Teacher: What can you see on this picture? Pupils: I can see many people and many animals. Teacher: Where are they? Pupils: They are in a (thick) forest / among (high) trees. We can’t see the sky… Teacher: What are they doing? Pupils: The monsters are watching. The humans are speaking/talking/discussing. One of them is sitting on the ground. The other one is standing in front of the crowd. Teacher: What about this man in the center? Pupils: He is tall; he’s speaking with the other man. Maybe he is asking something… Teacher: He is a knight. He’s got a helmet and a sword (montrer les éléments sur la gravure ou bien mimer, puis écrire les mots au tableau). Can you imagine what he is asking? Pupils: Maybe he is asking where the princess is/where he can find gold/ where he can find a secret/ a castle… Teacher: Yes maybe he is on a quest (write the words on the blackboard) maybe he is looking for a treasure (écrire les mots au tableau et faire répéter les élèves). Are the animals usual animals or monsters? Pupils: They are monsters. Teacher: Can you describe one of the monsters? Pupils: The monster in the bottom right corner/on the right has got the body of a crocodile, sixteen legs and the head of a human/ a human head. On the left the man is not riding a horse but a monster which looks like a tortoise… Teacher: Can you think of other (races of) monsters / famous monsters you know? Pupils: Orcs, dragons, trolls, goblins… Teacher: Can you describe an orc / a dragon/ a troll /a goblin? ... Teacher: Now, all the books, films and games with heroes and monsters like this are Fantasy books (écrire le mot Fantasy au tableau et faire répéter les élèves). Ex: A fantasy story is often the same; the characters are often the same too. The hero always has a quest (to fulfill). He can be very strong or he can be just a child: but he must always show his courage. He sometimes wears a helmet and often carries a sword. He sometimes has another weapon (a bow or a lance). He often travels with other heroes who help him in his quest. They can be a mage, a magician, a warrior, a priestess, an elf or sometimes a girl… His companions often have powers. He is courageous and intelligent because he must fight dangerous creatures ANGLAIS – COLLEGE / A2 - B1 – LA FANTASY : LES HEROS ET LES MONSTRES DANS LES LIVRES, LES JEUX ET LES FILMS © 2011 – SCÉRÉN – CNDP 7 in different dungeons and solve different mysteries/enigmas/problems. He usually wins at the end of the quest. The atmosphere is often mysterious and the quest is dangerous. Now there are funny fantasy stories too: the heroes can be stupid and ridiculous. These heroes can lose their fights and sometimes they don’t fulfill their quest. Some stories are not as serious as they were before/used to be and the heroes are not as strong as traditional heroes. - des progressions parallèles : The more the hero fights the more points he gets / the stronger he is. The more the mage fights the more spells he learns. The more the priest helps the group the more efficient he becomes…
