Involvement in the community
James Archibald continued to serve as a member of the Office des professions du Québec
(OPQ). He also served as a member of the Groupe de travail sur le rôle de surveillance de
l’OPQ in 2012. The final report is cited above.
James Archibald served as the Parliamentarian at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Board of
Directors of the Association for Business Communication. He also chaired the Diversity
Initiatives Forum at the same meeting.

In 2012, students and colleagues associated with the Translation Program prepared the draft
translation of the Montreal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities into Chinese and Italian.
James Archibald served as a member of the Commission Consultative de Spécialité 15e section
(Université Stendhal Grenoble3) in 2012.
James Archibald was reappointed to the Agenzia Nazionale di Valutazione del sistema
Universitario e della Ricerca by the Italian Ministry of Higher Education.
James Archibalkd continued to serve as the Président du jury du DELF et du DALF, Centre
d’examen de McGill, in cooperation with the French Embassy in Ottawa.

In November 2012, James Archibald was the invitee of Spain’s Ministry of Education,
Eduespaña and the regional government of Castilla y León as part of a mission to improve
academic relations between North American universities and institutions in Spain.
In the 2012 Winter term, students in the Graduate Diploma in Translation translated the
audioguides into Spanish for the Pérou : les royaumes du Soleil et de la Lune - Identités et
conquêtes aux époques ancienne, coloniale et moderne exhibit (Montreal Museum of Fine Arts)
under the supervision of Daniel Zamorano and James Archibald.
In the 2012 Winter Term, James Archibald met with the McGill Society of Lebanon.
Student interns worked with the following organizations in 2012:




City of Montreal,
Forensic Technology,
Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) and
Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Milestones
Heberto Fernández, Faculty Lecturer and Coordinator of the Spanish as a Second
Language Programs, resigned.

Honours, awards, and prizes
Daniel Zamorano, lecturer in the translation program, and Victoria Robertson, student in the
Graduate Diploma in Translation Program, won the Germán Rozenmacher Prize (Buenos
Aires, Argentina) for their English translations of Madrijo, Toda la Tristeza del Mundo by
Mariano Saba and Eduardo, La Pelopincho by Magdalena de Santo.
2012 recipients of the University Scholarships in Translation were: Chantal BRUNETTE,
Louise DELISLE and Elona RITCHIE, students in the Graduate Diploma in Translation
Program.
James Archibald received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, December 2012.
