Scott, PhD Associate Professor Julie Bouchard Education North 110 M-F 9:30-noon, 1:30-4:30, by appointment or online 903-886-5503 903-886-5507 [email protected] COURSE INFORMATION Materials – Rosetta Stone French Niveau (Level) 2 Course Description: Introduction to the four language skills: speaking, writing, listening and reading. Emphasis on the spoken language. Introduction to French and Francophone cultures. Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to 1. Articulate basic sentences or concepts in French easily. 2. Understand basic written and spoken French and respond appropriately. 3. Write brief sentences in correct French. 4. Use present, future, and past tenses in French correctly. COURSE REQUIREMENTS Instructional / Methods / Activities Assessments—this course will be offered through the Rosetta Stone Totale online learning program. Students will be required to: work with the courseware individually at least 5-6 hours per week, complete weekly quizzes scheduled and offered through eCollege, meet with the facilitators for two hours per week minimum, complete weekly worksheets in preparation for live class sessions, participate in at least four (4) Rosetta Stone studio conversation groups, and keep up with coursework as scheduled via the syllabus. An instructor and a GA will be available to assist students throughout the semester and to offer tutoring and explanations of material. These instructors will hold two practice and conversation sessions weekly, which all students are expected to attend. Any unexcused absence from these sessions will be deducted from the final grade at 10 points each. 1 Grading—grades will be composed of five segments weighted as follows: 1.Rosetta Stone Niveau 2 lessons 1-4* 2.Weekly quizzes posted in eCollege 3. Live class performance on worksheets/exercises 4. Regular/timely completion of Rosetta Stone @ 25 pts per unit 5. Regular attendance/participation at live class sessions 500 pts/ 150 150 100 100 1,000 *Students will be able to improve their Rosetta Stone scores by repeating lessons until they have achieved the desired level of competency. TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS This is an online class. All instructional activities and assignments will be delivered and received online using Rosetta Stone and eCollege learning media platform. The following technological resources will be required. o o o Access to a computer with Internet access (high-speed preferred) Document Productivity Software (Microsoft Office preferred) Microphone for pronunciation sessions or oral practice. ACCESS AND NAVIGATION Primary instruction will be delivered via Rosetta Stone, but we will use eCollege to answer questions, for quizzes, and for some group discussion as well as publication of worksheets and vocabulary lists to support your learning. eCollege access and Log in Information (7.1): This course will be facilitated using eCollege, the Learning Management System used by Texas A&M University-Commerce. COMMUNICATION AND SUPPORT Interaction with Instructor Statement: A Graduate Assistant and I will be available weekly for two face-to-face sessions which you are expected to attend. We will use this time to clear up questions and to help you if you are having difficulty. In addition, I hold regular office hours on campus and am online daily.
