Né Winnipeg, Manitoba, 1968.
Mon travail s’oriente principalement
autour de l’étude et l’exploration du
silence; des moments paisibles au
crépuscule et à l’aube, où la terre
semble être en suspend pendant un
instant, entre une émergence et une
fuite continuelle de la pénombre. Je
suis
aux
aguets
des
instants
éphémères qui lorsque l’espace, la
lumière et la texture s’harmonisent
offrent une quiétude. Interposés entre
le naturel et le domestique, ces
paysages qui sont photographiés se
retrouvent
habituellement
à
la
périphérie des stationnements, des
autoroutes, des parcs urbains et des
plages publiques.
Quotidiennement,
ces
lieux
se
forment et se déforment de leur
fonction et, une fois l’activité cessée,
je suis attiré par l’apesanteur qui
persiste. Ces espaces sont chargés
d’un sens d’anticipation séduisant;
soulevant les questions de quoi
s’agissait-il et de quoi s’agira-t-il.
Le thème de l’exclusion est central
dans ces images : ce qui a été oublié
et
laissé
hors
du
cadre
photographique et temporel. Ces
lieux sont intentionnellement vides et
évacués, dénués de présences
humaines tout en étant légèrement
affectées par celle-ci. Ces lieux sont,
selon moi, des métaphores des
antagonismes dont nous faisons face
à tous les jours.
J’ai
grandi
dans
les
prairies
canadiennes et l’horizon a fait parti
de mon enfance et de mon être.
Cette démarcation entre le ciel et la
terre était cramponnée par les à-pics,
percée par les poteaux de téléphone
et longée par les trains. Tout semble
être en orbite autour de cette arête.
Dans cette série de photographies,
l’horizon adopte la même fonction
organisationnelle, sa présence et son
emplacement à l’intérieur du cadre
devient un moteur graphique qui fixe
le spectateur d’une image à l’autre
peu importe son ordre. L’horizon, ou
la
référence,
assemble
des
panoramas disjointes de souvenirs
ambigus en un seul et unique
paysage. Chaque image devient une
parcelle d’une collection, une série
d’objets qui documentent le temps
écoulé tout en offrant une preuve ou
une relique de la présence humaine.

My work focuses on the study and
exploration of quiet, innocuous
spaces at dusk and dawn, where
the land is momentarily held emerging from and receding into
darkness. I search for ephemeral
moments when space, light, and
texture comes together to give
pause. Embedded between the
natural
and
domestic,
these
landscapes are often found at the
periphery
of
parking
lots,
highways, urban parks, and public
beaches. Each day these spaces
are made and unmade and I am
drawn
to
them
for
the
weightlessness that lingers after
activity ceases. They are charged
with
an
alluring
sense
of
anticipation - of what was and
what will be.
The idea of exclusion is central to
these images: left behind, left
outside - forgotten. They are
intentionally vacuous and hollow,
devoid of human presence, but
clearly touched by it. They
contain an element of tension and
speak
of
vulnerability
and
strength. I see them as visual
metaphors for the struggles we
encounter every day.
Being raised on the Canadian
prairies, the horizon becomes part
of your being. It seems as though
everything is organized around it
in some small way. Bluffs cling to
it, telephone poles pierce it, and
trains ride its edge .In this series
the horizon is given a similar
organizing
power.
It’s
ever
presence, and placement within
the frame serves as graphic
mechanism, grounding the viewer
as they move from one image to
the next regardless of viewing
order. The horizon, or datum, is
stitching together a disjointed
panorama
of
ambiguous
recollections
into
singular
landscape. Each image forms part
of a collection, a series of objects
documenting the passing of time
by providing a witness or relic of a
human presence
