The preparation of a Montessori Teacher requires far more than just learning how to
prepare the learning environment and how to present activities to children. This is the
technical part. It also requires each adult to become inspired by the Montessori Spirit!
I personally received this inspiration from my own Instructor and Mentor in Italy; with
my colleagues, I look forward to sharing it with you; we hope to pass this Spirit to you!
I hope that this formative experience the Montessori Teacher Education Diploma
Course will open the doors to the child’s world for you and the Montessori world as
well.

Aims of the Education Course (Early Childhood)
Our aim is to provide teacher candidates with opportunities and resources to gain the necessary
knowledge and practical experience to pursue a career as authentic qualified Montessori teachers. The
Institute is recognised for its high standards in Teacher Education. The demand for “Top class”
Montessori teachers is continually growing. For the past 14 years in the Greater Toronto area, 94 % of
our graduates have found employment in the many Montessori schools of the GTA and in Montreal in
2015, which sets a beautiful record for the Montréal territory.
The Montessori Diploma courses are designed to:
- Keep Montessori philosophy and respect for the children and their needs central to its purpose;
- Provide an in-depth study of the Montessori constructivist concept of education;
- Provide an optimal preparation in the practical personalized ways in which this concept can
beimplemented effectively in early childhood ;
- Provide high quality education for future Montessori teachers using Montessori’s approach,
materials and curriculum.
-
Internship and Teaching Practice
Practical application in a Montessori learning environment under the guidance of a certified
Montessori teacher is required as an integral part of the Education Courses. It consists of an
Internship of 400 hours that includes 200 clock hours minimum of supervised teaching practice in
Early Childhood Education where the teacher candidate observes, assists and participates to the
dynamic process of education of the host Montessori school. Independent study, projects, material
making and research constitute the remaining hours.

The Child
In her vision, wisdom and analytical research, Dr. Maria Montessori saw life as a continuum,
each stage evolving from the preceding one and preparing for the next. The Children’s
House lays the foundation of the inquiring mind of the 2½ to 5 year old interested in "What"
and "Where". This is the age of the inside unheard demand: “Help me to do it by myself” or the
experimenting hands: “I can do it”. However, the mind of the older child (6 to 9) functions in a
new way: "Why", "How" and "When" are the consuming questions and interests. The chil d
n o w s e e k s a n d n e e d s a n introduction to and an overview of just about everything. His/her
motto is: “The more I undertake, the more I learn”. This is the Age for Cosmic Education
and the search for new ideas and solutions in a personal, meaningful and cooperative way.
