How to improve your English this Summer
 Read as much of the English speaking press as you can. Install apps
on your phone/ ipad/tablet: The Guardian, BBC News, Slate, The
Huffington Post, The Telegraph, The New York Times etc
 Listen to English and American radio at home or on mobile devices
Download an app called “TuneIn Radio” to listen to any station
worldwide
Listen to BBC Radio Four online
Download the NPR radio app- an excellent tool to listen and learn
 Check out English learning websites such as BBC Learning English,
Headway English, The British council.
 Watch all your favourite TV series or films in English WITH ENGLISH
SUBTITLES
 Watch videos from different sources like CNN, BBN News, TedTalks,
and even for fun IN ENGLISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES (or none)
 As a French-English dictionary use bab.la (much better than google)
or wordreference and for help with pronunciation use the Antimoon
website. Start a vocabulary notebook (on paper or on your phone)
 Change the language setting of your phone to English and start
sending text messages to certain friends and family members in
English
 Read a novel or short stories in English
 Read the “rapports de jury” of the different exams you want to takeCCP, Mines-Ponts, E3A, Centrale, X/ENS- and find out what they want
from their candidates in English.
 Test yourself with the exams of previous years available online
 Buy “An Apple a Day” de Jean Max Thompson (Armand Colin)
from Book in Bar, 4 rue Joseph Cabassol, Aix before the
beginning of September.

 Lire la presse Anglophone (britannique, américaine, australienne,
indienne…) quotidiennement.

 Utiliser le dictionnaire en ligne Wordreference ou Bab.la et Antimoon
pour verifier la pronunciation, et commencer un carnet de

 Choisir l’anglais comme la langue de vos appareils électroniques
 Prendre l’habitude d’envoyer des textos à des amis ou un membre de
la famille en anglais
 Lire un roman ou des nouvelles en anglais
 Lire les rapports de jury des différents concours (CCP, Centrale, E3A,
Mines-Ponts, X/ENS) pour être au courant de leurs attentes
 Essayer de faire les annales de concours, disponsibles en ligne.
