NORMANDIE, TERRE DE MÉMOIRE
2012, une nouvelle année de mémoire en Normandie.
Comme chaque année, les communes normandes célèbrent avec ferveur l’anniversaire
de la Bataille de Normandie qui, après la plus formidable opération amphibie jamais
réalisée, a permis la libération de la France et de l’Europe du Nord avec le retour à la
Paix et à la Liberté.
La célébration nationale du 6 juin organisée par le Comité du Débarquement aura lieu
à Hermanville dans le secteur britannique baptisé SWORD. Un hommage particulier
sera rendu à nos amis norvégiens dont le torpilleur SVENNER a été coulé le jour du
Débarquement au large d’Hermanville. Les enfants se rassembleront sur la plage en
début de matinée tandis qu’un festival de musiques militaires clôturera la cérémonie.
La cérémonie régionale annuelle pour les victimes civiles se déroulera dans la matinée du
lundi 18 juin à Tilly-sur-Seulles, le "Verdun" normand.
Comme chaque année la jeunesse sera présente et participera à chacune des cérémonies
réalisées avec Normandie Mémoire durant tout l’été 2012.

2012, a new year of remembrance in Normandy.
As in previous years, towns and villages in Normandy will be fervently celebrating the
anniversary of the Battle of Normandy, which, following the largest amphibious operation
ever to be undertaken, enabled France and Northern Europe to be liberated and Peace
and Freedom to be restored.
The national celebration of June 6th hosted by the D-Day Commemoration Committee will
be held in Hermanville on the British landing area called SWORD. A special tribute will
be paid to our Norwegian friends whose SVENNER destroyer was sunk off Hermanville
on D-Day. Children will gather on the beach in the early morning whilst the ceremony will
end with performances by military bands.
The annual regional ceremony in memory of civilian victims will take place on the morning
of June 18th at Tilly-sur-Seulles, Normandy’s own ‘Verdun’.
As in previous years, young people will be attending and taking part in each of the
ceremonies organized by Normandie Mémoire throughout the summer of 2012.

Créé et présidé par Raymond TRIBOULET dès 1947,
le Comité du Débarquement (D.Day Commemoration Committee), présidé par son successeur
l’Amiral (2S) BRAC de LA PERRIÈRE depuis 1999, a pour mission principale les cérémonies annuelles
commémorant le débarquement allié sur les côtes normandes du 6 juin 1944.
Une loi du 21 mai 1947 a conféré à ces cérémonies un caractère national.

Présentation du nouveau livre de Jack
Womer et séance de dédicace.
Jack Womer faisait partie du peloton de
parachutistes de la 101e Airborne, le plus
légendaire de l’armée des États-Unis-Les 13
salopards.
Célèbres pour leur coupes de cheveux à
l’iroquois et leur peintures de guerre, ces
hommes du peloton de démolition du 506th
parachute infantery regiment avaient été
entrainés pour effectuer des missions de
sabotage derrière les lignes ennemies.
Pour la Normandie, ils avaient été affectés aux
3/506 avec la mission de dégager des passages,
les chaussées et les ponts des environs de
Saint-Côme du Mont jusqu’à Carentan et
d’ensuite tenir les ponts s’ils le pouvaient. Le
jour J, les 13 salopards subirent de lourdes
pertes.

Paratrooper Jack Womer was a member of the
101st Airborne Division’s demolition platoon,
the most legendary of the US army - the Filthy
Thirteen.
Famous for their Mohawk haircuts and war
paintings, these men from the demolition
platoon of the 506th Parachute Infantry
Regiment had been trained to perform sabotage
missions behind enemy lines.
Regarding Normandy, they were assigned to
the 3/506th PIR with the mission of clearing
passages, roadways and bridges in the vicinity
of Saint-Côme-du-Mont up to Carentan, and
then hold the bridges if they could. The Filthy
Thirteen suffered heavy losses on D-Day.
