Accusé de tentative de meurtre et de
complot dans le but de commettre un
meurtre, Nicholas Boudrias-Mayer a
plaidé coupable.
. Jeudi dernier (15 mars), le juge Jean
Legault de la Cour de justice de l’Ontario a
condamné le jeune homme de 18 ans à
quatre années d’emprisonnement.
Selon l’adjointe du procureur, Me Juliana
Martel, le jeune homme de Hawkesbury
avait échafaudé un plan avec un autre
jeune homme, ce dernier mineur.
Cependant, seul Nicholas Boudrias-Mayer
était passé à l’acte.
Le mobile demeure obscur, il n’y en aurait
pas, rapporte Me Martel en mentionnant
les propos de la défense.
Rappelons que le 14 septembre dernier,
le jeune homme avait été arrêté après qu’il
ait tenté d’étrangler, la nuit précédente, une
adolescente qui était montée à bord de la
voiture qu’il conduisait. Il était un peu plus
d’une heure du matin et la scène se déroulait
sur le chemin Front à Hawkesbury-Est où la
voiture s’était immobilisée.
Selon les détails rapportés alors par le
détachement de la Police provinciale de
l’Ontario, les deux passagers étaient sortis
de la voiture et c’est alors que la jeune fille
avait été agressée. S’étant débattue sans
succès, la victime avait finalement réussi à
convaincre son assaillant de mettre un terme
à son projet. Il l’avait reconduit à
Hawkesbury.
Des blessures mineures au cou et à la tête
avaient été constatées à l’Hôpital Général
de Hawkesbury.

L’accusation pesant sur Stéphane
Hotte en relation avec le vol à la Banque
alimentaire centrale de Hawkesbury a été
retirée.
L’homme de 40 ans, résidant sur la rue
Principale à Hawkesbury, a comparu à la
Cour de justice de l’Ontario, le 15 mars
dernier. L’accusation de possession de
matériel obtenu par le biais du crime en
marge de cette affaire à alors été levée.

plaidé non-coupable le 13 mars dernier. Le
juge Jean Legault de la Cour de justice de
l’Ontario à L’Orignal a reconnu la nonculpabilité lors de cette audience.
Finalement, Patrick Gorry, également
accusé, comparaîtra devant la Cour le 28
mars prochain.

the March 17 event which saw Glen
Haven Farms trot off with the best float
prize, and Tish Nicholson, who also
helped organize the North Glengarry
Township float, win the best costume
award. “Next year we hope to see more
participation from our local
government,” says Arber, noting that
Champlain Township did not formally
support the celebrations while North
Glengarry was one of three sponsors.
As usual, the festivities provided a
chance for people to wear the green, in
various forms.

Les nouveaux locaux de Hawkesbury
Mazda sont très impressionnants. Le
nouveau garage brillait devant un soleil
resplendissant pendant l’ouverture
officielle mardi soir.
Mais la clé du succès futur du
concessionnaire n’est pas liée aux
installations, a accentué le président de
Mazda Canada, Don Romano. « La clé du
succès n’est pas le bâtiment. C’est la
satisfaction du client », a dit M. Romano,
qui était parmi une douzaine de cadres
supérieurs de la compagnie qui ont assisté
à l’inauguration.
« Hawkesbury Mazda est numéro 1 au
Canada quand il s’agit de la satisfaction
du client », a ajouté M. Romano.
« Sans nos clients, Hawkesbury Mazda
n’existerait pas », a dit le président et copropriétaire de la concession, Christian
Joanisse.
Le nouvel emplacement représente un
investissement d’à peu près 3,5 millions $.
La construction de la nouvelle bâtisse
de 15 000 pieds carrés, comprenant les
nouvelles salles de montre, les bureaux
administratifs et le département
mécanique, a commencé le printemps
dernier.
Le nouveau bâtiment remplace l’ancien
garage de 10 000 pieds carrés qui date de
1986.
Depuis que le concessionnaire local a
ouvert en 1989, Hawkesbury Mazda est
un des meilleurs au Canada, a relaté M.
Romano.
Hawkesbury Mazda a 12,5 pour cent
du marché de Hawkesbury. « Les gens
viennent d’Ottawa pour acheter des
voitures ici, » a dit M. Romano.
La concessionnaire a aussi des clients
de Hudson, St-Lazare, Montebello, Rigaud
et Lachute.
A peu près 200 personnes ont assisté à
l’inauguration, selon Marie Pier Duchesne
qui a planifié et coordonné l’événement.

Six mois plus vite que prévu, 2 000
clients desservis de plus que prévu et
400 000 $ moins cher que prévu.
Les édiles des Comtés unis de Prescott et
Russell ont eu des surprises agréables
quand ils ont fait le bilan de l’implantation
du nouveau service Internet à haute vitesse
dans la région.
Le service Internet a été achevé en
décembre 2011, six mois avant l’échéance
originale, explique le directeur général
Stéphane Parisien.
Dans le cadre du programme
Connexions rurales pour un accès à large
bande, le service est maintenant disponible
pour 7 721 résidents qui n’y avaient pas
accès auparavant. Au début, 5 000 clients
étaient ciblés.
De plus, le projet a été réalisé à un coût
inférieur aux prévisions budgétaires, ce qui
a permis d’économiser 432 000 $ par rapport
à l’estimation initiale de 2,8 millions de
dollars.
Grâce au projet, 97 % de la population de
Prescott-Russell peut désormais se relier
au réseau Internet à large bande. Le projet
a aussi permis à plus de 450 entreprises
locales d’avoir accès à ce service.
«Cela n’est seulement que la première
partie du film », ajoute M. Parisien.
L’accès au service sans fil 4G, avec des
vitesses pouvant atteindre 10 mégabits par
seconde, arrivera bientôt à travers la région.
La zone d’Embrun est la première des 15
zones qui recevront un accès Internet haute
vitesse dans le cadre du Réseau régional de
l’Est ontarien, le plus vaste projet de
connexion à large bande dans les secteurs
ruraux de l’Ontario. La zone de couverture
à haute vitesse comprend les collectivités d’Embrun, Vars, Limoges
et Russell.
« Nous transformons des milles en millisecondes grâce à des
projets comme celui de Prescott-Russell. Ce sont des ponts Internet
que nous jetons entre l’Ontario rural et le monde du commerce et
de l’information. C’est bon pour les emplois et l’économie de la
région. Félicitations aux gens qui ont uni leurs efforts pour que les
Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell puissent jouir de cette réussite
», a dit M. Crack.
Le nouveau service est rendu possible grâce aux contributions
des CUPR, du gouvernement de l’Ontario et des fournisseurs
BELL et Xplornet. Les communautés de Prescott et Russell sont
les premières communautés de l’Ontario à pouvoir profiter de la
large bande 4G WiMAX de pointe de Xplornet.
En plus d’étendre les infrastructures à large bande, ce projet
municipal a comporté des activités de diffusion externe, y compris
des séances de formation Internet offertes aux exploitants de PME.
Des points d’accès sans fil ont aussi été configurés dans des
édifices municipaux et bibliothèques dans cinq municipalités et
aux bureaux des comtés à L’Orignal.

Le méga spectacle ne sera pas de
retour en 2012 dans l’Est ontarien.
Joint par téléphone, Réjean Aubut,
président de l’Écho de la Nation, a
confirmé cette annonce qui devrait être
rendue publique lors de l’assemblée
générale de l’organisme le 31 mars.
« Nous avons épongé la plupart de
nos dettes ce qui est une bonne nouvelle,
mais les démarches de financement
auprès des partenaires sont encore à un
stade beaucoup trop prématuré », analyse
M. Aubut.
L’organisme devrait profiter de
l’assemblée générale pour annoncer des
« bonnes nouvelles ». Parmi elles :
l’embauche d’une firme professionnelle
chargée de chapeauter le méga spectacle.
Quatre ans après la fin du méga
spectacle à cause d’une accumulation de
dettes, M. Aubut estime que les tournées
en région ont permis d’octroyer de
nombreux fonds de relance très utiles.
En attendant de meilleures nouvelles
pour 2013, l’Écho d’un peuple continuera
la production de spectacles régionaux ou
en province mais également dans les
écoles. Comme l’an passé, un minispectacle L’Écho de la Nation est prévu à
la ferme Drouin cet été.

La tutelle pour Grenville-sur-la-Rouge

afin qu’elle puisse faire partie des minutes
de la réunion et qu’il se ferait un plaisir d’en
débattre publiquement son contenu. Notre
fameuse conseillère Diane Monette, suite à
la demande du maire John Saywell, s’est
empressée de demander la levée de
l’assemblée; les quatre conseillers se sont

précipités vers la sortie, abandonnant leurs
fonctions, leurs responsabilités et les
citoyens présents dans la salle du conseil.
C’est le cinquième affront à notre
population. Quel manque de politesse, de
savoir vivre. Et dire que notre population
paie le salaire de ces individus. Ils sont
devenus une honte pour notre municipalité
et ils sont maintenant la risée dans notre
région. Quelle tristesse, notre municipalité
est maintenant paralysée, plus rien ne
bouge. Les lois, les amendements, les
comptes à payer, la bonne marche de notre
municipalité sont choses du passé. À la
suite de l’incident odieux et de la
disparition des conseillers grévistes de la
salle du conseil, les citoyens d’un commun
accord ont décidé de contacter le ministère
des Affaires municipales afin de déposer
une plainte officielle, de demander à la
Commission Municipale de placer notre
municipalité en tutelle, de décréter la
dissolution du conseil municipal de
Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.
Cela veut dire que notre municipalité
pourrait devoir aller en élection générale.
Si tel est le cas, les citoyens auront le choix
d’élire un conseil compétent, voulant
travailler ensemble pour le bien être de
notre communauté. Imaginez-vous nos
conseillers actuels sans salaire ! Fini les
comités pour augmenter leur paie, fini les
batailles inutiles, fini les affronts aux
citoyens.
Citoyens de Grenville-sur-la-Rouge,
regroupons nous. Le comité des citoyens
engagés de Grenville-sur-la-Rouge

Le premier Salon du livre de Rigaud
se tiendra le dimanche 25 mars.
Par cette initiative, le Cercle d’histoire
de Rigaud veut permettre aux auteurs et
éditeurs de Vaudreuil-Soulanges et des
environs de faire connaissance et de
présenter leurs œuvres. Il désire ainsi
mettre en valeur le travail de ces écrivains
en leur offrant une vitrine pour se faire
connaître du grand public.
Des auteurs de l’Est ontarien ont saisi
l’opportunité et d’autres organismes
comme Patrimoine Longueuil Heritage et
la Société d’histoire et de généalogie de
Hawkesbury seront sur place.
L’événement prendra place à l’édifice
Paul Brasseur de 11 h à 16 heures. Près
d’une quarantaine de participants vous y
attendront.

The town of Hawkesbury dropped
several notches in the annual “Best Places
to Live In Canada” evaluation conducted
by MoneySense magazine.
Placing 72nd out of 180 towns last year,
Hawkesbury has slipped to 153 out of 190
in the most recent rankings.
Meanwhile, Lachute moved from 154 to
134.
Hawkesbury is cited as having the lowest
household income among the communities
evaluated.
“Household incomes in this town are
the lowest in the country averaging just
$50,783. That’s less than a third of what
residents in Wood Buffalo, Alta. (the richest
Canadians) are averaging at $186,979. But
according to the town’s Chief
Administrative Officer Normand Beaulieu,
the numbers are skewed lower by
Hawkesbury’s high concentration of
seniors living on modest pensions. Salaries
aren’t keeping residents from treating
themselves however. The city makes the top
50 in the new car category,” says the
magazine.
In 2010, Hawkesbury was also described
as the “worst” place in Canada based on
household incomes. The town retained that
dubious distinction in 2011, placing 180
out of 180 when it comes to income.
The rankings put Ottawa-Gatineau on
top; Montréal is 149th. Cornwall is ranked
167; the lowest overall score was given to
New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, for the second
consecutive year.
The assessment is based on several
factors.

Over 600 job seekers, 23 local businesses, over 125 jobs.
The numbers add up to a “phenomenal success” for the job fair in Prescott County.
Organizers are so pleased they will likely do it again next year.
The first major job fair organized by the Employment Services Centre surpassed
expectations – the number of job hunters doubled the 300 officials had expected would
attend. The participating businesses each received between 30 and 200 resumes. Cindy
Fish, Human Resources Manager at Tulmar Safety Systems, was very pleased to have
had the chance to meet “a good pool of potential candidates for positions ranging from
production to top management.” Nathalie Vink, from Herb’s Travel Plaza, even filled
her cashier position on-site and identified good candidates for her other openings,
including cook positions. Similarly, Richard Allard, from Golden Anchor Marina, was
able to find promising candidates for his maritime mechanic and customer service
positions. Meanwhile, job seekers and employers are invited to contact the Employment
Services Centre office at 134 Main St.East, Suite 201, telephone 613-632-0179.
After being frozen in 2011, fees for garbage collection and recycling services in
Hawkesbury will rise by 3.3 per cent this year.
Under rates approved by town council, the residential levies for garbage collection
and recycling will increase from $169 to $172 per household while the non-residential
rate will go from $130 to $133 per unit.
The garbage surplus of $28,137 from 2011 is expected to be absorbed as a result
of $943,473 in expenditures and $915,336 in revenues. In 2010, expenses totalled
$874,044 while revenues were $887,745.

services after town council approved a
new fee schedule Monday night.
The annual bill for a house that consumes
an average of 15 cubic metres monthly will
rise from $506.28 to $542.28, according to
estimates presented to town council during
a budget debate last week.

Council had earlier voted 6-1 in favour of
the new rates after a long debate over how
the total $3,663,130 bill for 2012 would be
shared among residential and commercial
users. The sole dissenter was Councillor
Michel Thibodeau, who had supported a
scenario that would have increased
everyone’s bills by 5.5 per cent.
“For years, residents have been
subsidizing commercial consumers,” he
argued. While his colleagues contended
that businesses deserved a break, business
community representatives said the town
did nothing to relieve their burden.
Some businesses have seen their water
and sewage bills shoot up by 3,000 per cent
since new bills based on meter readings
went into effect in 2011.
“This is a question of survival,” Johanne
Séguin cautioned recently. “If there is no
change, people do not know how they are
going to survive,” said Séguin, owner of
Buanderie Cayen Laundry. The Main Street
operation is among the about 20 businesses
that have been equipped with water meters
for the past 25 years. Séguin saw her water
and sewage bills shoot up by 65 per cent last
year.
A member of the Hawkesbury Chamber
of Commerce board of directors, Séguin had
presented a new rate proposal that would
have increased residential and industrial
bills and decreased commercial levies.
“For the sake of a few more dollars on the
residential bill, the town could have helped
businesses, but the council decided not to
do so,” Séguin said last week.
Some businesses can apply for a break if
they had a 100 per cent increase in 2011.
Successful applicants can have three years
to pay off those bills if they also demonstrate
they have implemented water conservation
measures.
Cats, holes
and the
median
message
The rites and rituals of spring are so
diverse and wonderful.
The sky is black with geese, the air is
sweet with boiling sap, the suspension of
your car aches as potholes are born, the
landscape is a dirty blend of all sorts of
leftovers.
There is much heaving, thawing and
defrosting, as spring cleaning begins and
the land enters “defrost” mode.
It is a great time to make plans and
entertain thoughts of how you are going to
improve yourself and all that surrounds
you.
Have you bought seeds already?
Are you one of those people who, fearing
they will get into a rut, place poles on the
ground near vulnerable grassy areas in
order to prevent vehicles from scarring even
a tiny section of that beautiful lawn that is
coming back to life? Do you attach a special
thatching blade to your mower to guarantee
that yours is the best patch of grass on the
street?
And what about your pets?
Unwanted animals are everywhere but
the problem seems to be particularly acute
in Hawkesbury where efforts are ongoing
to trap, neuter and then release stray cats.
Prevention is always the best cure. For
the last three years, the Friends of Feral Cats
of Hawkesbury has been tending to a colony
of stray cats while implementing the trapneuter-release program.
But not everyone is on the same page.
Thus, it is useful to repeat a message the
Friends of Feral Cats of Hawkesbury has
been issuing for the last few years.
“We cannot stress it enough that people
need to start taking responsibility for their
own pets. Leaving your unsterilized cats
wander around the neighbourhood is
continuing to add to the population, making
our goal that much harder to reach. Keep
your male or female cats indoors or have
them sterilized. If you can’t put up with
their nuisance behaviour due to the mating
season, then get them fixed or give them to
someone or your local SPCA but do not
abandon your pet! Animals do have feelings
too and they do get scared, lonely, depressed
and grieve just like we do, only they can’t
speak.”
OK, now that you have booked your
appointment with the vet, you may want to
take time to consider some of the other issues
that have been raising hackles lately.
The roads, for example. This is the time of
year when they are their worst. You expect
to see a pothole here or a crack there, but it
seems that many of our streets, roads and
highways have dropped to new lows. But
that is just a perception. There are few ways
to objectively gauge whether a route is a
“bad road.”
Seriously. One person’s crater-filled
concession is another’s comfortable wellused track. You mention that a certain road
is brutal and invariably somebody else will
say that he or she has seen something
much worse than that.
Fittingly, this is the time of year when
our local governments are preparing their
budgets for another year.
And roads are always big-ticket items.
There is never enough money to fix all of
their roads and streets that require
attention.
The median message
Increased traffic takes an increased toll
on roads and municipal coffers. Thus, many
municipalities impose development
charges, also known as lot levies, or a
“welcome tax,” on newcomers who create
extra demand for services. That method of
financing new services is, of course, quite
contentious.
New businesses and residents generate
new sources of revenue, thereby reducing
the tax burden for all, yet those new
taxpayers also increase service costs. At
the same time, these fees cannot be overly
onerous if a municipality is to remain
competitive, and attract newcomers.
Which brings us to a plan to charge
Canadian Tire for the installation of a
median at the crazy Cameron-County Road
17 intersection in Hawkesbury.
Canadian Tire wants to add a gas bar
with a dépanneur to its store site on
Cameron. The town says the company must
foot the bill for a concrete divider that would
be erected in the middle of Cameron between
the entrance to the store lot and Alexander
Siversky Street. The goal is to improve safety
in the area. Drivers could no longer make

left hand turns on that part of Cameron, nor
would they be able to risk life and limb by
zipping across the street between Canadian
Tire and the McDonald’s restaurant
entrances.
The traffic pattern change probably
makes sense, but some are nervous over the
town’s intent to stick one particular private
business with the tab for an improvement
to a public street.
Plus, the town is planning to impose
similar levies on developers who would
create more businesses, generate more tax
revenues, and ostensibly create more traffic
problems, in the “second downtown” that
is being created on Cameron, Spence
Avenue, County Road 17 and Tupper Street.
There is precedence for such special
levies.
Loblaw Properties Ltd. has contributed
$75,000 to $275,000 in recent improvements
on Cameron from Spence Avenue to County
Road 17. The money was contributed under
an agreement signed back in 2003 when
the company agreed to carry out a study to
determine how the new Your Independent
Grocer outlet would affect traffic in the
area.
Over the years, Hawkesbury has been
trying to prepare for the commercial
development that has overtaken its
“industrial park.”
Apart from the 2003 agreement with
Loblaw Properties, a traffic study was
carried out in 2008.
That study recommended the expansion
of Cameron to four lanes, and the
installation of a traffic light at Alexander
Siversky Street. However, those
improvements were stalled when the sale
of the former Amoco plant property to a
Toronto developer was scuttled. Now the
town is trying to make the best out of a
difficult and very congested situation.
Already, this is shaping up to be a very
interesting Spring. As Canadian Tire says,
“Bring it on.”

Crown seeks
first-degree charge
The Crown has appealed a January 18
decision by Judge Jean Legault to have
Rosny Wiss César, of Hawkesbury, face a
second-degree murder charge in the 2010
death of Danny Trineer, a 32-year-old
Kilmar man.
Assistant Prescott-Russell Crown
Attorney Julie Bourgeois argues that the
judge erred in his ruling and that the 27year-old César should stand trial for
first-degree murder.
The appeal is to be heard April 26.

Aircraft patrols are being used to
help local police pull over law-breaking
motorists on Highway 417.
The Hawkesbury detachment of the
Ontario Provincial Police has increased
patrols and enforcement on Highway
417. During the first weekend of the
March break, officers conducted three
days of enforcement totalling 12.5 hours
using an O.P.P. aircraft to intercept
violators on the 417.
During that weekend, 174 provincial
offence notices were given out to
motorists. The offences varied from
speeding, failure to move left for
emergency vehicles, driving while their
licences were suspended drivers and
failure to have insurance.
"Secret
shopper"
scam alert

The Ontario Provincial Police is
issuing a warning about a “Secret
Shopper” scam that has victimized
people across the country.
Since late February, members of the
Napanee Crime Unit of the Ontario
Provincial Police have been investigating
numerous fraudulent cheques that have
been connected to a scheme that stretches
across Canada.
Victims have been receiving cheques
for amounts in excess of $3,500. They
have been offered employment to evaluate
money transfer services if they cash the
cheque and send sums of up to $3,000 by
Moneygram and Western Union to
Brooklyn, New York.
Victims soon discover that the cheques
are fraudulent.
Anyone receiving a cheque and is
required to send money is advised that
they are likely being targeted by fraud
artists.

Man killed in collision with cows

RICEVILLE
A 24-year-old man was killed near Riceville March 13 when the vehicle he was
driving collided with cattle west of the village of Riceville. A passenger suffered
minor injuries in the accident which occurred at about 10:20 p.m. on County Road 16,
reports the Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police detachment.
Conditions were foggy at the time. An emergency vehicle responding to the accident
was also involved in a collision with another cow on the roadway.

Toute une réussite!
Samedi le 10 mars 2012, un grand nombre de personnes ont participé
à la troisième annuelle de Dérick’s Pancake Day. Le tout se déroulait à
la Sucrerie du Ruban à Ste-Anne de Prescott. La levée de fonds pour la
fondation Make@Wish de l’Est ontarien a permis d’amasser 6 800 $. La

World’s Top Coin Collectors in Town Next Week

ICC will be placing ads in newspapers, radio
and running television spots this week asking
people to bring in any old silver and gold
coins made before 1968 and U.S. coins made
before 1970. Those that bring in their coins
will be able to speak with collectors one on one
and have their coins looked at by a specialist.
With the help of these ICC members, offers will
be made to those that have coins made before
1968. Offers will be made based on silver
or gold content and the rarity of the coins. All
coins made before 1968 will be examined and
purchased including gold coins, silver coins,
silver dollars, all types of nickels and pennies.
Those that decide to sell their coins will be paid
on the spot.
If you are like a lot of people you might have
a few old coins or even a coffee can full lying
around. If you have ever wondered what they
are worth now might be your chance to find out
and even sell them if you choose. They could
be worth a lot according to the International
Coin Collectors also known as ICC. Collectors
will pay a fortune for some coins and currency
for their collections. If it is rare enough, one
coin could be worth over $100,000 according
to Eric Helms, coin collector and ICC member.
One ultra rare dime, an 1894S Barber, sold
for a record $1.9 million to a collector in July
of 2007. While that is an extreme example,
many rare and valuable coins are stashed
away in dresser drawers or lock boxes around
the country. The ICC and its collector members
have organized a traveling event in search of
all types of coins and currency. Even common
coins can be worth a significant amount due to
the high price of silver and gold, says Helms.
Washington quarters and Roosevelt dimes can
be worth many times their face value. Recent
silver markets have driven the price up on
common coins made of silver. Helms explains
that all U.S. half dollars, quarters and dimes
made before 1970 contain 90% silver and are
sought after any time silver prices rise. Right
now it’s a sellers market he said.
The rarest coins these collectors are looking
for include $20, $10, $5 and $2 1/2 gold
coins and any coin made before 1850. These
coins always bring big premiums according to
the ICC. Silver dollars are also very sought
after nowadays.
Other types of items the ICC will be
purchasing during this event include U.S.
currency, gold bullion, investment gold, silver
bars, silver rounds, proof sets, etc. Even foreign
coins are sought after and will be purchased.
Here’s How It Works:
Also at this event anyone can sell their gold
jewellery, dental gold or anything made of
gold on the spot. Gold is currently trading at
record high prices. Bring anything you think
might be gold and the collectors will examine,
test and price it for free. If you decide to sell,
you will be paid on the spot – it has been an
unknown fact that coin dealers have always
paid more for jewellery and scrap gold than
other jewelers and pawn brokers.
So whether you have one coin you think
might be valuable or a large collection you
recently inherited, you can talk to these
collectors for free. If your’re lucky you may have
a rarity worth thousands. Either way there is
nothing to lose and it sounds like fun!

has one large handicap – about 80 per cent
of the property for sale is in a floodplain.
The municipality had originally hoped
to get $800,000 for the vacant building and
the ten acres of riverfront land it sits on. But
in 2009, when no takes had been found, that
price was dropped to $350,000.
The municipality had been seeking a
project that would include a mix of
commercial and residential uses.
According to a 2007 estimate, it would
cost about $350,000 to demolish the
building.
Built in 1939, the two-storey building
had been used as a school up until 1980,
when the property was transferred from the
Catholic school board to the municipality.
It had been used as a community centre
until 2006 when the town evicted La
Coopérative du Christ-Roi. The
organization had concluded it could not
afford to pay for the maintenance of the
centre.
Despite its age, the building is not
recognized for its heritage value.

The town of Hawkesbury is trying once
again to sell Centre Christ-Roi, the
dilapidated Main Street building the
municipality has been trying to get rid of
for the past six years.
Since 2006, the town has made several
futile attempts to find a buyer for the former
community centre and ten acres of adjoining
land located beside the Ottawa River.
This time around, the municipality has
set no minimum bid for the site. “However,
the amount submitted will have an impact
on the overall evaluation of the project,” the
town notes in its request for proposals.
March 23 is the deadline to submit bids
on the property.
The property, which includes Parc Cyrde-LaSalle, has attracted interest over the
years.

La municipalité du Village de Grenville est à la recherche d’une personne pour combler le poste de
préposé à la surveillance et à la réglementation.
Description de l’emploi:
1- Application des règlements municipaux et d’urbanisme relatifs aux nuisances :
• Effectuer de la patrouille de surveillance sur l’ensemble du territoire afin de constater les
infractions ;
• Émettre des avertissements et / ou des avis d’infraction.
2- Surveillance de la descente de bateau et des stationnements avec vignette:
• Émettre les vignettes et percevoir l’argent ou les chèques ;
• Remettre des avis d’infraction associés aux véhicules, s’il y a lieu.
3- Surveillance du terrain de tennis (2 visites) :
• Émettre les cartes de membre et percevoir l’argent ou les chèques ;
• Remettre des avertissements (obtenir le nom des personnes).
Exigences:
• Détenir un diplôme d’études secondaires ou l’équivalent ;
• Être majeur(e) et/ou démontrer beaucoup de maturité ;
• Être fiable, honnête, autonome et responsable ;
• Avoir de l’entregent, faire preuve de tact, de courtoisie et de diplomatie ;
• Posséder un vélo ou un véhicule pour se déplacer ;
• Détenir des aptitudes pour le service à la clientèle ainsi qu’un bon jugement ;
• Posséder un bon sens de l’observation ;
• Être capable de rédiger des rapports ;
• Le bilinguisme serait un atout.
Rémunération et horaire de travail :
L’horaire de travail est de 30 à 40 heures par semaine réparti sur les 7 jours de la semaine (jour/
soir et fins de semaine). L’horaire est à déterminer. Le salaire offert est de 10 $ de l’heure.
