RENSEIGNEMENTS PRATIQUES
La première journée de colloque (jeudi 25, 14h00-18h00) se
tiendra auprès de l’Università degli Studi di Milano, Via Festa
del Perdono 7. La deuxième et la troisième journée (vendredi
26, 9h00-13h00, 14h30-18h30, samedi 27, 9h00-13h00,
14h30-18h30) auprès du Collegio Ghislieri (Università degli
Studi di Pavia), Piazza Ghislieri, Pavia.
On peut arriver à Milan en train (la Stazione centrale se trouve
à quelques arrêts de metro de l’Université) ou par avion
(l’aéroport de Milan Linate est à une demi-heure du centre
ville et de l’Université ; l’aéroport de Milan Malpensa à une
heure du centre ville et de l’Université).
La ville de Pavie est très proche de Milan, et après la première
demi-journée de colloque (jeudi 25, 14h00-18h00, à Milan) il
est prévu de se déplacer en voiture vers Pavie pour le dîner.
Les intervenants seront accueillis auprès des « Collegi »,
des strctures d’hébergement liées à l’Università degli Studi di
Pavia depuis des siècles.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION
The first day of the conference (Thursday 25, 2-6 pm) will
take place in Milan, at the Università Statale di Milano, Via
Festa del Perdono 7. The second and third days (Friday 26,
9 am – 1 pm; 2.30-6.30 pm. Saturday 27, 9 am – 1 pm; 2.306.30 pm) will take place in Pavia, at Collegio Ghislieri, Piazza
Ghislieri, Pavia.
Milan can be reached by train through the main railway lines,
arriving at Milan Central Station, a few subway stops away from
the conference site, using Line 3 (yellow). By plane you can
reach Milan either by flying to Malpensa (about 1 hour away
from the City centre) and then take either a train or a bus shuttle
to the Central Station, or to Linate (about half an hour away from
the City centre), and then take a shuttle to the Central Station.
The choice of the airport depends on the flight company, but
many companies fly both to Malpensa and Linate.
After the first Conference section, on Thursday 25 in Milan,
the participants will be accompanied by car to Pavia, where
a dinner will take place and then the speakers will spend the
night of Thursday and the following ones in the historical
Colleges connected to the University of Pavia .

MAURICE MERLEAU-PONTY : PENSER SANS DUALISMES AUJOURD’HUI
JEUDI 25 SEPTEMBRE 2008 (MILAN)
Ce colloque vise à explorer l’héritage de la pensée de
Merleau-Ponty et tout particulièrement de sa compréhension
personnelle de la phénoménologie, cent ans après la
naissance du philosophe. Critique envers toute forme
d’opposition catégoriale frontale ainsi qu’envers toute
espèce d’approche réductionniste, Merleau-Ponty a toujours
recherché une troisième voie afin d’éviter les dualismes de
l’esprit et de la matière, de la subjectivité et de l’objectivité,
de la liberté et du déterminisme absolus. Cette recherche
d’une alternative aux dualismes ne l’a cependant jamais
conduit vers un réductionnisme, c’est pourquoi le défi que sa
pensée nous lance aujourd’hui est celui d’une interprétation
originale des duplicités de la réalité, au-delà des tentations
adverses de la réduction et de l’absolutisation. Notre pensée
n’en est pas moins en quête de nouvelles catégories, que ce
colloque pourra contribuer à articuler en étudiant les écrits de
Merleau-Ponty à la lumière des nouvelles conceptualisations,
en développant des confrontations inédites avec d’autres
conceptions philosophiques ou en relisant les thèmes les
plus actuels du débat philosophique dans le cadre conceptuel
merleau-pontien. Autant de parcours à travers lesquels nous
pourrons témoigner de la vitalité et de la fécondité de l’œuvre
incontournable de Merleau-Ponty.

MERLEAU-PONTY: THINKING WITHOUT DUALISMS TODAY
VENDREDI 26 SEPTEMBRE (PAVIE)
The conference aims to explore the heritage of Merleau-Ponty’s
thought a century after his birth, by reflecting on the meaning
of his particular way of understanding phenomenology. Critical
with respect to simplifying category oppositions as well as to
reductionistic approaches, Merleau-Ponty has always been
in search of a third way, a third way that is able to avoid
the dualisms between matter and mind, subject and object,
absolute freedom and absolute determinism. His investigation
to find an alternative to every form of dualism, however, never
led Merleau-Ponty into a reductionism of the doubleness of
the visible and the invisible. Therefore his thought challenges
us still today to find an original interpretation of the doubleness
of reality, beyond the two projects – one being the mere
opposite of the other -- of reduction down to one category
or absolutization of two. Our thinking is still looking for these
new categories, and this conference will be able to contribute
to their articulation by studying Merleau-Ponty’s writings
in the light of new conceptualizations, by developing new
confrontations with other philosophical modes of thinking,
or by re-reading the issues of contemporary philosophical
debate within Merleau-Ponty’s conceptual framework. Thus,
by means of these different paths, we will be able to bear
witness to the vitality and fecundity of Merleau-Ponty’s
incomparable body of work.
