It is only 105 km away from the “Macedonia” airport of Thessaloniki (2nd largest city of Greece after Athens) and only 5 minutes away from Neos Marmaras. With 1 week yacht charter originating from, Porto Carras, you can visit the Halkidiki area, that is so beautiful pristine and unspoiled, Lemnos Island, the Sporades islands and Evia island. Porto Carras is the place of choice if you are looking for a milder climate. Based in the North of Greece it is the departure point for less beaten routes, but still impressive for the beauty and history. Very close to Mount Athos (where monasteries and books are 1000 years old, but where unfortunately women are not admitted). the sea water is so clean that it still produces the precious variety of red coral. The Greek islands Sporades are very close to the mainland because they are located at the Northern Sporades complex which consists of eleven islands and only four of them are inhabited: Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros. All of them are rich with green pine forests and white sandy beaches. At Skiathos you will be surprised at how such a small place could possibly hide so many varieties of beauty: the beach of Koukounaries with its golden sand, exotic Mandraki with its sand dunes, Lalaria. with its round pebbles and natural rock bridge over the sea, and Tsougnia. is a sailing paradise combined with easy life and excellent food ashore. This is probably the last breeding ground in the eastern Mediterranean sea of the seal Monachus Monachus. They can survive not only because they are protected in a national park, but mainly because of very clean water and no pollution. SKIROS or Skyros is the largest of the Sporades islands. Is a rugged island covered partly by a thin growth of trees and concaved coastline with beautiful sandy bays. The island is divided in two dissimilar parts by a narrow strip of land. Mount Kokhlias to South East at a height of 793 meters and mount Olympos to North West reaching 399 meters. Alonisos lies close to a host of delightful. smaller islands: Kyra Panayia with its picturesque monastery, Yioura with the "Cave of the Cyclops", forested Piperi. Pappous islet, Peristera and Skantzoura. Skopelos, the second largest of the Sporades islands after Skyros, lies between Skiathos and Alonnisos. It is a picturesque, wellwatered island with abundant greenery and pleasant beaches. Porto Carras is the place that time forgot.... with green pine forests and white sandy beaches as well as pebble beaches and beautiful scenery with precious stones woven into the deep blue silk of the Aegean, are a valuable inheritance with a long and rich history.
