Taipei, Oct. 24 (CNA) High-level
trade officials from the Philippines pitched the investment
opportunities in their country to Taiwan at a seminar in
Taipei Friday, saying that rapid economic growth was one of
the attractive factors.
In a speech at the seminar, Philippine Department of Trade and
Industry (DTI) Secretary Gregory Domingo said his country has
seen a strong economic growth of about 7 percent over the past
two years, making it the second fastest growing Asian economy
after China.
Taiwanese businessmen should take advantage of the
Philippines’ rapid economic growth and invest there, he urged.
As the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), a single regional
common market of ASEAN countries, is set to come into effect
in 2015, the Philippines can serve as a good base for
Taiwanese companies to enter the ASEAN market, Domingo added.
“We are the closest neighbor (to Taiwan) in Southeast Asia”
and “we have a good workforce,” he said at the Investing in
the Philippines Seminar, organized by the Manila Economic and
Cultural Office, the Philippines’ representative office in
Taiwan.
His views were supported by Francis Liang, chairman of the
Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), who said
the Philippines presents good opportunities for Taiwanese
companies operating overseas.
“Its economic growth is estimated to reach over 6 percent for
2014,” Liang said.
The Philippines has a large domestic market and can also serve
as a production base, he said.
In
recognition
of
the
Philippines’
increasing
economic
importance, TAITRA opened a center in Manila last year to
provide assistance to Taiwanese businesspeople who hope to
invest there, Liang noted.
DTI Undersecretary Ponciano Manalo Jr., meanwhile, outlined
some of the incentives that the Philippines offers investors,
alongside its other advantages, which he described as good
governance, easy access to the ASEAN market and a strong labor
force.
He said investors are 100 percent exempt from corporate income
tax for up to eight years, and when the tax holiday expires, a
5 percent concessional tax rate on gross income takes effect.
In addition, investors in the economic zones are allowed dutyfree importation of raw materials, capital equipment,
machinery and spare parts, Manalo told more than 250
representatives of various Taiwanese companies who attended
the seminar.
The seminar was held as part of an effort by the Philippines
to offer investment opportunities for Taiwanese companies in
areas such as information technology services, food and
agribusiness, design- driven products, manufacturing and
infrastructure, according to Manalo.
Representatives from Taiwanese businesses that have invested
in the Philippines also shared their experiences at the
seminar.
Simon Shen, chief executive officer of the New Kinpo Group,
which has set up a factory in the Philippines, lauded the
Philippine Economic Zone Authority as an efficient government
agency that has been very helpful. The Philippines also has a
sufficient labor force and competitive labor costs, he said.
Steve Yang, chairman of the Taihan Precision Technology Co.,
said the Philippines has a very low labor strike rate compared
with other Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, where
his company also has a factory.
However, both Shen and Yang highlighted the country’s higher
electricity costs as one of the challenges of investing in the
Philippines.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Philippine government officials,
led by Domingo, is attending a two-day Joint Economic
Conference in Taipei that was set to conclude later Friday, to
discuss ways of building stronger bilateral economic ties.

Hon Hai to build display
plant in China: report
Taipei, Oct. 24 (CNA) Hon Hai
Precision Industry Co., the world’s largest contract
electronics maker, is planning to set up a display plant in
China to produce high-end screens for smartphones, according
to the Wall Street Journal.
Cited unnamed sources, the newspaper said Hon Hai, also known
as Foxconn, is in talks with the government of Zhengzhou in
Henan province on the investment, which could amount to as
much as 35 billion Chinese yuan (US$5.7 billion).
If a deal is reached, it could be Hon Hai’s biggest investment
in high-end electronics components, according to the report.
Market analysts in Taipei said that if the report of the
investment plan is true, it means Hon Hai is aiming to
diversify its product portfolio by assigning more of its
resources to high-end electronics parts instead of product
assembly.
They said such a move could satisfy demand by Hon Hai’s major
customers, including U.S. consumer electronics giant Apple
Inc., for comprehensive services — from high-end component
supply to assembly – which would swell Hon Hai’s profit
margin.
The Wall Street Journal said Apple currently uses displays
from suppliers in South Korea and Japan. It is believed that
LG Display Co. of South Korea and Display Inc. and Sharp Corp.
of Japan are Apple’s screen suppliers.
Hon Hai, which assembles iPhones and iPads, is a major
Taiwanese supplier to Apple, which accounts for more than 40
percent of Hon Hai’s total revenue.
With the release in September of Apple’s two new iPhone
models, — the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus
— Hon Hai’s consolidated sales for the month skyrocketed more
than 50 percent from August to NT$415.41 billion (US$13.66
billion). Analysts said the new iPhones could help raise Hon
Hai’s consolidated sales for the fourth quarter by a quarterly
40-50 percent.
Hon Hai already has a production site in Zhengzhou that mainly
assembles the new generation of iPhones and makes some
components such as metal casings, the Wall Street Journal
said.
Amid strong demand for the new iPhones, the Zhengzhou plant
has been gearing up to recruit workers to boost production
from the current a half million iPhones a day.

De meest bezochte toeristische bestemming in
2013 was van oudsher de Praagse Burcht. Tussen de beste kwamen
ook de industriële monumenten of het Boomkroonpad in Lipno.
Dit blijkt uit de ranglijst van het verkeer van toeristische
bestemmingen die CzechTourism heeft samengesteld.
De Praagse Burcht werd in 2013 door 1,7 miljoen betalende
bezoekers bezocht, het meest bezochte Tsjechische monument
heeft daarmee weer de eerste plaats in het klassement
verdiend. Zijn plaats van vorig jaar heeft ook de Praagse
dierentuin behouden, met 1,1 miljoen bezoekers heeft het de
tweede positie bereikt. De bronzen positie werd verdedigd door
het AquaPalace centrum in Praag met het aantal van 780 000
bezoekers. Ten opzichte van vorig jaar heeft het complex van
industriële monumenten Dolní oblast Vítkovice en Landek Park
zijn positie een plaats verbeterd, met 679 000 bezoekers
verdiende het de vierde plaats. Ook de toren Petřín is vier
plaatsen gestegen ten opzichte van vorig jaar, hij eindigde
als zevende. Posities tussen de twintig meest bezochte
toeristische bestemmingen zijn ook bereikt door het
Boomkroonpad in Lipno met het aantal van 360 000 bezoekers, de
St. Peter en Paul Kathedraal in Brno met 316 000 bezoekers en
het labyrint van Petřín in Praag met 309 000 bezoekers.

Het iconische Rocky Mountain National Park is dit jaar een
eeuw oud. Tussen september 2014 tot september 2015 staat het
park stil bij deze mijlpaal en worden er allerlei speciale
activiteiten georganiseerd voor bezoekers. Ga op pad met een
ranger, maak een GPS wandeling langs historische plekken of ga
bergklimmen met de Colorado Mountain Club, die een belangrijke
rol speelde bij de ontstaansgeschiedenis van het park. Er zijn
ook concerten, lezingen en exposities. Zo is er in het Estes
Park Museum een speciale expositie over bergbeklimmen die de
geschiedenis in kaart brengt maar ook de beste klimtechnieken
laat zien. Buiten kunnen bezoekers de theorie gelijk in
praktijk brengen in de bergen!
Gezichtsbepalend voor Noord-Amerika
Rocky Mountain National Park was destijds pas het zesde
nationale park van de Verenigde Staten en ontvangt
tegenwoordig jaarlijks ruim 3 miljoen bezoekers. Het park
beslaat een oppervlakte van meer dan 1.000 vierkante kilometer
en is onderdeel van de Rocky Mountains, het belangrijkste
gebergte van Noord-Amerika dat zich uitstrekt van het hoge
noorden in Alaska tot New Mexico in het zuiden. Amerika wordt
als het ware in tweeën gesplitst door de zogenaamde
Continental Divide, waarvan de Rocky Mountains een belangrijk
onderdeel zijn. Om de panorama’s en majestueuze bergen op
waarde te schatten, is een road trip over de Trail Ridge Road
een aanrader. Deze hoogstgelegen geasfalteerde weg van NoordAmerika laat de Continental Divide en Rocky Mountains in al
haar glorie zien. Het park huisvest naast de gezichtsbepalende
bergen ook valleien en alpenweiden, bossen, meren en rivieren
en natuurlijk heel veel wilde dieren. Er leven ruim 3000
elanden, 800 dikhoornschapen maar ook coyotes en adelaars. Met
5 bezoekerscentra die ruim 500 kilometer aan wandelroutes in
kaart brengen is een dagtocht zo uitgestippeld.
Vertrekpunt Denver
Vanuit Denver is het slechts twee uur rijden naar Rocky
Mountain National Park. De ‘Mile High City’ is een perfecte
uitvalsbasis voor een bezoek aan Colorado. Denver ontstond
tijdens de goudkoorts mid-19 e eeuw en heeft nog veel van de
oude charme van het Wilde Westen. Het hippe pakhuizen district
in Lower Downtown en de statige villa’s van Capitol Hill
herinneren aan deze tijd. Denver is een van de snelst
groeiende steden in Amerika en de inwoners grappen vaak dat
als de rest van Amerika wist van de ruim 300 dagen zon,
vriendelijkheid en goede prijs/kwaliteitverhouding van deze
stad, er niemand meer in de andere grote steden zou wonen.
Maar het grootste pluspunt van Denver is toch wel de nabijheid
van zo veel natuur. Overal in de stad zijn de Rocky Mountains
zichtbaar. Dat vraagt om een road trip!

Colorado staat bekend om haar natuur en biedt reizigers in

six new destinations next
summer season

network for summer 2015, adding

than
six
new
destinations:
St-Petersburg,
Dubrovnik, Calvi, Lourdes, Olbia
and
Billund.
Tickets
are
available starting from 69 euro
return. The flight frequencies
of Tel Aviv, Malta and Lyon will be increased.
Whilst we enter fall season, Brussels Airlines looks ahead to
the summer of 2015. With the new summer offer, which is
bookable as from today, Brussels Airlines focuses on popular
holiday destinations and cultural destinations. Thanks to the
recently launched travel options, return tickets to these
European destinations are available from 69 euro.
New Destinations
As from 29 March Brussels Airlines starts flights to Billund,
in the Danish Jutland region. The airline will operate two
daily flights, with a schedule that is convenient to both
business travelers and tourists, and which allows connections
to other destinations in Europe, Africa and the States.
Brussels Airlines also reinforces its Southern European flight
offer, by adding Dubrovnik to its network, the gateway to the
magnificent Croatian coast and islands. Dubrovnik will be
served
twice
a
week.
Weekly
flights
to
Calvi
(Corsica) and Olbia (Sardinia) will also be added to the
summer timetable.
The airport of Lourdes will be served twice per week (Monday &

With its Lourdes service, Brussels Airlines offers an
alternative travel solution to the thousands of pilgrims
visiting the French town.
Brussels Airlines adds St Petersburg to its network, a
cultural top destination which wasn’t connected to a Belgian
airport yet. The city of the Tsars, known for its Hermitage
museum, is served three times per week (Monday, Wednesday and
Friday).
More flights to existing destinations
The flight offer to Malta, which was launched successfully
last summer, returns in 2015 with more flight frequencies.
Because of the large demand, Brussels Airlines will set course
for Malta twice per week (Thursday and Sunday) between April
and October. More flights are also added between Brussels
Airport and Tel Aviv. Starting next summer season, the
destination will be served twice daily (morning and
afternoon/night flight). Seville, the capital of Andalucía,
will be operated four instead of three times per week
and Faro, the gateway to the Algarve, will be served six
instead of five times per week.
Brussels Airlines continues its flights to other popular
summer destinations next summer, including Nice, Malaga,
Barcelona, Florence, Alicante, Marrakech, Agadir, Athens,
Naples, Porto, Palermo, Catania, Venice or one of the many
other European destinations.

Airport MRT to open by end of
2015
Taipei, Oct. 25 (CNA) A rapid
transit system connecting Taiwan’s main airport to the capital
city of Taipei will become operational by the end of 2015,
Minister of Transportation Yeh Kuang-shih said Saturday.
Yeh made the comments when briefing President Ma Ying-jeou,
who inspected the Taipei terminus of the Taoyuan International
Airport MRT.
The president stepped inside one of the cars to be used on the
new 51-kilometer line to see its interior design and try out
one of its seats.
The airport MRT will allow Taipei’s transportation network to
be more extensive, said Ma, adding that it will help reduce
the carbon emission volume in Taiwan.
The line has been under construction since 2006 and is now
undergoing a series of tests after several delays due to
disputes among various contractors.
Once completed, it will be able to bring passengers arriving
at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to downtown Taipei in
35 minutes.
Passengers to the Taoyuan airport will also be able to use an
in-town check-in service to ship their baggage and obtain a
boarding pass at either the Taipei terminus or New Taipei
Industrial Park station, according to the Bureau of High Speed
Rail under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
That will put Taoyuan among the few airports in the world to
provide such convenience, the bureau said, naming Hong Kong,
South Korea and Malaysia as the only places such a service can
be found.
The Taoyuan International Airport MRT line starts from Taipei,
passes through New Taipei and ends in Taoyuan. The line has 22
stations, from the Taipei terminus to Huanbei station in
Taoyuan County, where it is set to connect to the underconstruction Taoyuan MRT.

Propriété du Groupe IAG, Vueling est la compagnie leader à
l’aéroport de Barcelona-El Prat, avec 36% de parts de marché.
Vueling dispose à l’été 2014 d’une flotte de 90 Airbus
(modèles A319 et A320).
Au départ de Brussels Airport, Vueling connecte directement 8
destinations en Espagne, Italie et Portugal à travers une
offre de plus de 408,600 sièges durant cet hiver. De plus,
Vueling offre aussi des vols directs vers Florence et Saint
Jacques de Compostelle durant la période de Noël (entre 20
décembre et 4 janvier). Depuis 2014, la compagnie possède 2
hubs européens, Barcelone et Rome-Fiumicino qui font de
Vueling la seule compagnie low cost à couvrir toute la région
méditerranéenne.
